Shin Splints?

So my boyfriend just started getting this stabbing paid on the side of his shin but a lot lower down - more above the ankle. At first we thought shin splints...but now we are thinking it might be 'tibialis tendonitis'. Anyone experience this? any advice to pass on? I recommend the bfst treatment as I did it for my foot and it healed it, but i have no experience with this injury. http://kingbrand.com/./Tibialis-Anterior-Tendonitis.php?REF=1110PV0.00   - what do you guys think? I see it being a hard area to treat.

So just a little update in case anyone else is suffering this same kind of thing. He didn't get the wrap recommended, which was the 'ankle' as we weren't exactly sure, but he got the 'leg' wrap and that wrapped great around that area (just below the shin to the side). I think his was a little higher than what the pics show for Tibialis anterior tendonitis. It's been a little over a week and he's noticing an improvement, yah :smile:
 
Hope he gets better. If he runs on a treadmill tell him to stop immediately.
