2016 Official NBA Off-Season Thread: Former Greatness

There is no uncertainty with the CBA. These numbers are never going to go backwards.

By the time summer '19 rolls around, Curry will have 10 years under his belt and be able to sign for the absolute maximum.

It wouldn't make much sense to lock up a long-term deal and pass up the pay increase when you're only two years away from it. Especially when he'll still take home 30MM+ annually in the interim.

Does what I said make sense now?
No it still doesn't because the threat of a lockout is always there and the players will never win because the owners have deeper pockets so they will hold out.

The cap stabilizing after 2017, that 10 year max is not that big of a deal because he'll make that up off the court easily.

With his injury history and his age, I have no doubt he takes the long term deal next year.
Dude, these numbers are never going to go backwards. There is a reason why the players will be the ones opting out of the current deal, and it isn't to get less money.

The 10 year max may not be that big of a deal when looking at each individual season, but over the course of his contract it will be. To the tune of at least 25MM. And that difference could  will be significantly higher after the new CBA is signed.

With regards to making up the difference off the court, no. He can lessen the hurt with his off the court earnings, but he won't be able to make up the difference. And besides, it would make no sense to even try to when you can simply make that money on the court.

As for his history with injury and his age, Chandler Parsons was just offered a 4 year 96MM dollar deal. Steph could have a leg amputated and still make that.

Raps have no room to sign anyone this summer and will have to give 30 year old Lowry a max deal next summer.

They're ruining what could've been a great situation.

This. Idk why ****** hate on this.

Like "oh my god" he makes way too much. I think this **** is awesome.

Awesome? I don't feel the same. It just tells me we're going to see a lockout soon.

All of this just means basketball won't be available to us for a period of time.

Sources: Free agent guard Eric Gordon has emerged as Knicks' top perimeter target. Sides starting to discuss parameters of a possible deal.

This is the worst day of my life.

I never said they were going backwards, they're stabilizing though, the cap isn't going up again until at least 2020 or beyond.

He's going into his age 29 season in 2017 and you think he's taking 1+1 till he's 31 to then a sign a max over 25 million?

Not for a guy who relies on his quickness and ability to create separation as much as he does. As we saw in the playoffs, when he can't do that consistently, he's not close to the same player.

Maxes aren't getting higher after the new CBA man, if you know anything about how the lockouts work, you know that's the last thing the owners are giving up, the same thing happened back in the late 90's early 2000's.

Curry made 50 million off the court this season alone, you're tripping if you think he's not making that up especially after the team moves to SF.

He's signing long term in 2017.

Curry's been underpaid for so long...I think he's going to cash out and take the security next summer.

Where did you even get a number of $50 million off court just this year? I feel that's really and j mean really incorrect

He's got a lot of endorsements but do you know how much money that is
