2016 Official NBA Off-Season Thread: Former Greatness

I like that he waited for the offseason for his announcement to fade into Bolivia. I guess ego has a lot of athletes announce their retirement early in the season so they can have their butts kissed during the year.

i read that if his son keeps progressing and there is a chance he can get in the league, he wants to play with/against him

That actually would be pretty sick.

I'd love to see a Father Son matchup even though Bron would be way over the hill at that point. Would just be dope to see.

Not surprised Duncan retired. It was definitely time. He looked terrible in the playoffs. All time great but boring as **** to watch. Fitting that his retirement would be the same.

Duncan was the only guy that could ever match prime Shaq aside from Hakeem. I'll never forget his 2003 playoff run, basically single-handedly took down the Lakers dynasty

It's possible. Bron's son is about 5 years away from the league. If he stays on his current pace....he has a good shot of making the league. Think he's like the #6 ranked 8th grader in the nation.

Then again, I was ranked pretty high locally in 8th grade....and my "career" never made it past high school Jv :smh:

So anything can happen.

always one of my favorite players. never had any hate for him nor disliked him. so many battles with my lakers. he was highly skilled thats not boring to me. im a fan of dudes who are fundamentally sound more so then amare stoudamire, russell westbrook elite athlete type players. that pistons vs spurs while boring to casual fans was one of my favorite finals as a basketball junkie. just a slugfest..

was always a way bigger duncan fan when kg vs duncan arguments were a thing.

. dude never talked, wasnt a loud mouth , wasnt flashy. just did his job. r.i.p tim duncans basketball career.

love this quote by ron ron on timmy d

"I like how Tim Duncan plays. I like how he just plays hard.”

You blink. It’s like Batman just mentioned his admiration for Superman.

“I remember one time Kevin Garnett was mushing him, and shoving him in the face; and Tim Duncan didn’t do anything, he didn’t react. He just kicked Kevin Garnett’s ***, and won the damn championship. You know what I’m sayin’? That’s gangsta. Everybody can show emotion, dunk on somebody, scream and be real cocky; but Tim Duncan is a…he’s a pimp.”

Ami I trippin or is LeBron's oldest son not only 11 yes old? Isn't he like 8 years away? Bron will be looking like 2016 Kobe by then

Probably worse.

LeBron relies on his skills and athleticism.

Once that fades, he will be nothing.

No jumpshot, no post moves, I mean how else can he be effective?

He's about to be 12. And a 7th grader. So he's 6 or 7 away

The same dudes that say this....will say Steph curry relies on his jump shot. Once he can't hit that...he won't be effective . Y'all gotta chill with the hot takes.

Great players play well until their time is up. It just has to do with age. Bron is 31 and highly skilled. Skills don't fade. He has about 7 more years. 3 or 4 more prime years.

Bruh. Revisionist history. Only reason lakers lost was because Horry went like 1-20 from 3 the whole series.

this what i believe but everyone is different. kobe was playing lights out till like 35 then he was trash. you never know just how long someone is going to last , what type of injuries are going to hit. i didnt think dirk would outlast everyone , that jumper is the last thing to go.

. everything is a guessestimate. im very interested in seeing how a 35 year old lebron plays and how he can adapt if he can.

HOT TAKE

Let's take a look at some of the elite prep to pro stars career lengths....

Kobe was getting it done at 34. Bron is 31....and has 3 to 4 good years left. Then the real decline.

Kobe: 20 years
KG: 21 years
Bron: Already about to be at 14 years.

It's not a stretch to think Bron doesn't play til he's 38.

au contraire, lebron has already lost a step as far as athleticism goes. hes not jumping as high nor running as fast. and hes still taking a beating more than half the time since he likes to bulldoze. unless he pulls a wade and drops like 20+ lbs to make it easier on his knees and back, or REALLY develops that shot... he wont be in the league another 5 years.
