2016 Official NBA Off-Season Thread: Former Greatness

I'd trade trade DJ for Jae Crowder and Amir Johnson or something. Or try and pry another rim protecting big.

DJ is the perfect pairing for what the clips do. On paper they are a very good team but the mental toughness/ injuries always get them. I wouldn't blow them up especially since they should be a lock for the WCF

I think Memphis if healthy, has a shot at finishing better than the Spurs too. I just have serious reservations about their best players injuries and age wise.

That's my biggest concern as well.

Literally our 3 best players are coming off injuries/surgeries  .

while i can see why Iggy would say that the Thunder were the best team in the playoffs, I still dont see them beating the cavs in the finals if they made it.

i think he was more so gassing the warriors with that statement. Thunder were the best team in the playoffs, warriors beat them, they became best team then. Warriors beat the Cavs..then they beat themselves.

Agreed.

I think the clips can find another DJ.....they haven't been able to fil that 3 & D wing that they sorely need.

I could see Memphis finishing as high as two and as low as 4 so i'll settle on 3 lol

But parsons conley and gasol are coming off of serious injuries man. Like real serious. Then you factor in zach isnt young, etc.

Memphis appears to be good enough though to net a good 50+ wins this season though if they stay healthy. The core is there.

I'm in the minority but I dont think they can.

DJ is an improved basketball player on both ends man.

I dont know if there's another player in the league that lac could get in return for jordan that provides his size, world class athleticism, durability and motor. He is really coming into his own and I used to feel the same way that you do about him.

The clippers were an elite defense last year that was even better after christmas, only atlanta was better I think. The number one reason for that was Deandre Jordan.

Who is going to bring that level of athleticism in the pick and roll and the ability to move on the perimeter on defense? The thunder just went to the WCF playing 4 on 5.

I agree they need an upgrade at the 3 but not at the expense of DJ. I'd move JJ first

The good thing is that Conley really didn't have a serious injury. It was more of a pre-caution to avoid him rupturing his achilles. I think it was just sore for the most pat and they were doing all they could to keep it that way and get him healthy.

Marc's foot is my biggest concern. His size + the history of foot injuries for bigs don't make me too excited.

I think Parsons should be okay. Zbo is coming off a good year and I think with his load slowly being taken away, he can still remain effective.

The thing I love most is that Fizdale trust the young guys. Our team is much younger now (especially on the bench). I really need Wright to have a healthy year as well. He will be key to our success when running and defending the pick n roll.

theres no "Beat Themselves"
the cavs outplayed the warriors for the last 3 games period. They exposed curry and went from there, The cavs were the better team in that series PERIOD.
dont say they beat themselves. They had 3 chances to close that series and they couldn't because he couldn't beat the cavs when the cavs figured them out.

I remember BHZ hating tough on the deal Parsons signed with Dallas a few years ago. 3/46 vs 4/96

I think the Spurs can easily finish 2nd. Clippers will go theough cold stretches as they always do. The Spurs will continue to chug along.

Unless they don't

Play my man Jordan Adams please

I forgot about memphis picking up wright. Man that's a great pick up. Parsons is the best wing Memphis has had in years. Memphis should be really good provided health and no decline from the core due to age or something

I wouldnt be opposed to moving JJ but he does provide some elite level production and his gravity is a big reason why a cp/blake or dj PnR work so well. They've been a top 3 foursome in basketball for the past three years.

In my opinion, Wes Johnson's career has been a bust but if he could somehow just be average or even above average on defense for lac he would be a great fit. Slashes, athletic, and can shoot corner 3's very well. He cant do much else, but if he's with the core 4 then maybe that's all that he needs to do. Also given the financial straits that lac is in, they probably couldnt afford a better player at that position anyway.

I don't buy Memphis as a top 4 team at all. Aging or injury prone core. New coach. Weak shooting. Their anchor is coming off a serious injury and had already taken a step back

I'm cool on DJ. He's improved defensively...but until he shoots at least 50% from the FT line....he's a liability offensively.

Hell, Miles Plumlee is still available. Y'all may laugh...but he's good defensively and athletic. Clips should Sign him...trade DJ for Crowder, Amir Johnson and picks.....and flourish. A Cp3/Redick/Austin/Crowder/Blake small ball lineup ain't bad at all.

I'm spitballing here...but that ain't bad :nerd:.

they can be top 4. spurs were. didnt mean squat in the playoffs. doubt it will mean squat for the grizz either. No hate to them. I'm indifferent about their success. Just dont see any singular piece that puts them into that upper echelon of competition. And then not to mention the weighing down of the injuries and the aches and pains that come from older players.

I don't know if I would call DJ an offensively liability man how would they get better offensively without DJ? They've been elite on that end for the past 3 years and none of those guys you mentioned are in the same class as jordan from an athleticism, motor, durability, gravity or defense standpoint. I dont think lac is as good as they were defensively last year with miles plumlee or amir johnson taking jordan's place. He compromises entire defenses when he rolls to the basket.

How is our shooting weak when that's what we improved on?

I thought it was the Matthews deal I didn't like. I'm pretty sure it was Matthews because he was coming off an achilles injury. And the fact they were just going out to sign players because they kept missing out on their targets without any regard to fit  .

Adams is hurt  . He could've played a lot last year, but had surgery. I don't think they're quite giving up on him yet, but I don't know if he'll even recover in enough time to play this year.

I think some people are overstating the age of our players. Zbo and TA are older, but that's it. Memphis isn't leaning on them as elite players. Their 3 best players are 29, 28 and 31. They have a young bench and only 3 guys in a rotation of about 9-10 players are 30 or older.

What's your starting line up looking like

Conley
Parsons
gasol
Then who??

Tony Allen
Zach
Wright
Adams
Green

I think the Blazers going to have a great season, maybe crack the top 4 seed. Also don't sleep on OKC even without KD, assuming Russ is there.
