2016 Official NBA Off-Season Thread: Former Greatness

Now, we about to get on this argument about how neither team won anything.

I guess we might as well only talk about the Warriors and Cavs in here. Don't ever mention other squads.

If you're rebuilding with young talent...maybe you can be talked about. Not too much, though
Not sure why the Clippers are the barometer for the Grizzlies success anyways.  Makes no damn sense.

Its like anytime you want to bring up the Grizzlies, you feel the need to compare them to the Clippers, which I don't really understand at all.  Like it is going to make them less of a first or second round exit team.

plenty of teams have won. just not the clippers or vancouver grizzlies

Who said they were?

they're always mentioned in the same breath.

kinda like how it can't be said how good Draymond Green is, without saying that he's better than Blake. Just connected.

Grizzlies and Memphis are in that same mediocre, middle-of-the-pack weightclass.

back to this again

meanwhile, no one still answered my question as to why the clippers are levels above the grizz. the conversation just went away with no one making a real point.
You literally brought this up out of nowhere.

Like people just started putting where they thought teams were going to finish in the west, then captain-save-a-turd came in and was like "CLIPPERS ARE NOT LEVELS ABOVE THE GRIZZLIES RAWR I WIPE WITH MY LEFT HAND!"

So, now we in the same class after everyone just argued with me that they aren't?

you can't be in the same weightclass with someone that is better than you? and it's the mediocre, middle=of=the-pack weightclass. Not necessarily something to brag . I mean I guess if that's what you want. Hey, you'll probably still be better than the Lakers. haha.

:smhtmti
You tried it.
I'm not even going to ask you to explain yourself.

I'm going to ask that you dont, instead.
Good talk.  If we are going to do this, the Denver nuggets will finish top 3 seed.  I'm not to about to explain myself though.  i'm just going to say after the Warriors everyone else is trash.

This is the extent of what this thread has become.

Is this what's being stated?

1) The Clipper will be a top 4 seed, while Memphis is a bottom playoff seed in the West?

2) When both teams are healthy, the Clippers are still much better than the Grizz?

ALL OF THIS.

I think 99.99999999999999% of anyone with a brain will say this statement is true.

I don't see anybody can think the Grizz will be better than the Clippers.

bhz love his team to death.

West is buns though.
You got those yellow guys, Clips and Memphis.

Then.....who......else......

West ain't ****

with the addition of KD, the team basically brownskin now.

kd-dray-iggy cancel out the beige mob.

And, outside of GSW, the only real real teams are LAC and Mem.

Portland actually got worse in the offseason.
Spurs are, well they have Pop so they can do something with that.

But other than that bruh, the West is a toss up from the 2-8 seed.

Good luck penciling in 2-8 seeds on an opening season bet.

I'll start a thread so I can document everybody's dumb *** answer

Last year wasn't OKC's year either :smile:lol actually it wasn't) and they wrecked......never mind, they ain't do ****

Nobody bragging about it. I just think its funny how you're trying to change your opinion about it

I know where Memphis stands and know what matchups they need to have the best shot at making a playoff run. Most of the top 4-5 teams in the West have the ability to make a run of some sort if they get the right matchups. Being better than the other team unless its a drastic case doesn't mean much if you're not a great matchup.

The Spurs have been considered a better team than the Clippers overall for the last 2-3 years, but the Clippers have shown to be a bad matchup for them.

I just saw Houston make the WCF the year before last because of matchups. Clippers defeated the Spurs, which gave Houston a better shot at making the WCF despite not having a real shot at beating Golden State.

It'll be nice if everyone in the West could simply have 4 of the top 20 players in the NBA or have a perfect rebuild like OKC had. But, that's not the NBA. People who talk like nothing else matters in a 30 team league wasting time talking basketball.

I don't know where he's at now but Marc wasn't even running last month and he had surgery in February. Grizz need to worry about him coming back in full form. He was slipping even before the injury. Idk if I trust him especially with Chandler weakening the perimeter defense.

True Dion Waiters story from his Cuse days: he considered his game a combo of Kobe and Dwayne Wade so he had teammates call him Kobe Wade.

So, you're really trying to debate with me the Clippers being better based on what happened last season?

HIM HIM

so the difference between a top 4 seed last season and a bottom 2 seed was about 10+ wins. this was Memphis with 29 different players and with a dleague team out there during the 2nd half of the season.

are you willing to bet things will be the same this season with both teams being healthy? this is basically what i'm being told right now. if so, let's bet. if you don't want to use last season to measure since it was a down year in the west, let's use the year before last. difference between a top 4 seed last year and a bottom seed was 10 games as well. 5 games if you look at the 4/5th (Memphis) and Mavs winning 50.

My whole thing is I feel like there is a 99.9% chance the Clippers finish ahead of Memphis and a really good chance they finish top 3. I think Memphis has like a 10% chance of finishing top 3. I don't think it should be crazy to see the majority of people having the Clippers ahead of Memphis. I won't go as far as saying Memphis will struggle to make the playoffs but I think wherever they finish, it will be behind the Clippers. Whether that is 1 game behind or 10 games is a different story.

this is not far from the truth if you replace trash with battiling.

After GSW 4 teams will be decent and battle for the next few spots and then 6-8 is bottom fed
I don't really think the Spurs took that big of a step back.  Even if they lose 15 more games than last year they are still winning 52+ games.  Top 3 without injuries should basically be GSW, Spurs, Clippers.

The realistically I think it will be grizzlies, OKC/Blazers, and then the Jazz.

I think everyone is really underestimating the spurs.

Marc has a tendency to come into the season out of shape. That's a big reason why he didn't look great last year and it wasn't due to age. He came into camp out of shape the year after winning DPOTY as well. You can see similar dips in his numbers from that year compared to last.

From what I know, he'll be ready. I'll know for sure in about another month.

So, when Memphis, LAC and SAS all won 55/56 games the year before, how many people still said the Clippers and Spurs were heads and shoulders better than Memphis? Its a lose/lose situation because no matter if Memphis finishes right on the map with them, 1 game off or 10 games off, opinions won't change.
