2016 Official NBA Off-Season Thread: Former Greatness

I always wondered how would Harden be looked at today if surrounded by the talent Steph is surrounded by.

Still being considered the best player among that talent.

I'm sure his weaknesses wouldn't standout as much and he would probably be ranked higher on lists. I'm assuming his playmaking abilities would be highlighted more on a better team.

BTW, I'm taking Paul George

Steph's a decisively better player than harden.

Harden has somewhat went from overrated to underrated though.

The pendulum swings in perception of players is intersting to watch.

Am I missing something here?

Why would you take George over Harden?

There's a substantial gap between the two as scorers & facilitators. George has the advantage on defense, but not nearly enough for me to give him the edge as an overall player.

Just in case this post was skimmed over.

The best jerseys are the ones that don't really change much.
Lakers , spurs ,Celtics , Knicks, bulls. Nba teams need to make them simple and keep them.

Stop changing jerseys every couple of years. Most of the teams that change up often are garbage. Pick a good simple one and keep it.
Exactly! Still mad that the Clippers changed to those FUGLY Jerseys

As the cliche goes If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Harden is out there playing Pokemon Go. As bad as his defense is, I'd probably still take him. It's really close though.

George as an overall player can both out score his matchup and shut his matchup down.

I don't think he's as skilled as Harden offensively, but there has to be some value taken in having the ability to dominate your matchup on both ends.

I do think Harden has somewhat become underrated as a player. The reason my comment came up was because I think people would view him in a completely different light if he was surrounded by the talent Curry has. Curry has deficiencies in his game that's less noticeable on a team like Golden State. That doesn't take away how great he is offensively, though. Put him in Houston and people will start nitpicking his game to death because he won't have nearly as much talent around him.

The same can be said from Harden in a way. Not to say he's better than Curry overall, but I do think he would be ranked higher against his peers if he was put in a similar situation as Steph. Look at how valuable people considered him in OKC with Durant and Russ. Many felt Harden's playmaking ability was the difference between OKC winning a championship or not. Most would want the ball in Harden's hands over both Russ and KD. I think that says a lot about how good he is and how good he can be with better talent. Put that OKC team together today and I think Harden would still have the ball in his hands over both players at the end of games.

Being a two-way player has kinda become overrated when comparing players.
Agreed.

Especially when the gap between players' abilities on one side of the ball is significantly greater than the gap on the other side.

Like Kawhi is good and all but when people start trying to tell me he's in the same realm as Bron or KD...I'm just not buying it.

People have been talking a lot of **** regarding Harden like I'd take Klay and Jimmy butler over him like really why

Now that I think about it....George's defense hasn't been top tier since 2013-14. Last year was more of a recovery year, 2014-15 was the injury year and 2013-14 he was great but not as good as he was in the year prior.

His offensive impact doesn't come close to Harden from a analytical standpoint.

Bingo. Suwoop Harden has become criminally underrated.

I'm taking Harden before Paul George
