2016 Official NBA Off-Season Thread: Former Greatness

You're right in saying that PG's creating skills are nothing to right home about, but he's still much better than KL at it.

Also, KL's defense would slip big time if he was playing in Indy, no?

It would slip...but not "big time". Kawhi does things on the defensive end that you cannot teach...or can't be unlearned. His senses are unreal, as well as his length, technique and reaction time.

I'm a Greek Freak guy but I'm gonna need to see a jumper out of him before I'm ready to consider that.

Let's see how great KL is, especially on defense when he's tasked with much more responsibility to cover for the inevitable ineptness that a Aldridge / Gasol / Lee frontcourt would provide.

We saw this in the playoffs. It was getting ugly for the shy guy. Those per 36 weren't holding water when he actually had to play 36 minutes
Everything was roughly the same between he reg season and playoff per 36s as well as the per game and per 36 averages. There was no drop off.

This.

Also, don't let one semi bad series from Kawhi make it seem as if he's not that good  . He just turned 25 and still is a year younger than PG. I'm willing to bet he's going to come into next season improving upon last year's great season. Meanwhile, I'm still trying to see if PG will return to his old self defensively.

Looking at Kawhi's numbers from the playoffs

28.6 PER
3.2 DBPM
7.4 OBPM
28.1% USG
.597 TS
22 / 9.7 / 4 / 4 on 50 / 43 / 82

If anyone else put up those numbers, what would the consensus be?

PG had a great year last year, especially coming off that injury....but we've seen his story before.

"Top 5 PG" for the 1st 6 weeks of the season. Then, his shooting falls off a cliff .

The law of averages are real with PG. Blistering hot shooting to start....followed by cold shooting to even it up. He's not good enough to sustain the level of play he plays at during the early months of the season.

Not sure what you're saying. I'm talking about games where he actually played like 32+ minutes. Someone in here was hyping up his playoff per 36 but in games where he logged heavy minutes and wasn't coming off a week of rest it was a different story. There was a drop off between his imaginary production and his actual production.

Kawhi also had a miserable series against the clippers last year. Just saying

yup pg went from mvp status to not mentioned at all. dude was inconsistent as hell.
While kawhi finished 2nd in the mvp race.

and he was also finals mvp the year before the clippers series. Don't let one or two bad series define him

 This is okcs year
Nah.

Tentatively speaking it is Clippers/Grizz year and Pacers coming out the EAST.

 His stats in games with more than 32 minutes in the playoffs were still really good. What are you REALLY talking about here? Some sort of weird agenda against per 36 minutes stats?

I'm talking about the drop between his per 36 and his actual 36. And yes I am the founder of the anti per 36 agenda

can't wait to see what all 29 NBA teams do when that 1 team wins a championship

Take notes from the Grizzlies since they have done it every year they have been in existence?

**** a-friend for that masterful troll job.

There is no drop off though  If anything he's proof it works

Yea because his performance during those games brought his per 36 down to normal. At the time of the original discussion his per 36 was thru the roof and it was right before the okc series

here your bum *** go again. we had almost 2-3 pages worth of good discussion before you start painting the thread with *** posts. you don't say anything when a decent discussion is going on. just ***

so what if the grizz haven't won a championship? they've been in memphis for 15 years. some teams haven't won a championship much longer than that and about 12 other teams in the league have't won one. if you're going try and crack jokes, at least be more creative and make it funny. just a waste
