Hey there fellas, so I just completed my schooling for A&P certification. Now unlike some coworkers I have and people I've met that went through the schooling, I'm not trying to procrastinate on taking the FAA written exams and O&P right after finishing school. I'm in the process of trying to become an AMT and work for an airline, if it matters.

- Is there any tips how I can prepare myself for these tests? I've already purchased the prepware apps, I have last year's study guides, and I'm beginning a practice test class next week but, I'm somewhat overthinking these tests as it's so much material.

- Any DME's you guys would recommend in the SoCal area? I hear DMEs in the Los Angeles County have a quota for failure. :nerd:

- Also, any advice you guys would like to mention would be greatly appreciated.

.....All aviation forums are pretty outdated by the way.

You shoulda joined the AF first.....do your 4 years, get training and certifications, CCAF degree, while getting paid and travel the world then get out and flourish.

Might work on my A&P while I'm stationed in Cali next. I deal with ordnance, but cross trained in airframes and mech for helos. Good contracting jobs are out there for A&P mechanics, especially if you're willing to come overseas with L-3.

I just started school for Aircraft Mechanics this past Wednesday.
Congrats and good luck in your schooling a lot of interesting material. :pimp:

You're right. I should've. Would've gained much more experience and my schooling would've been shorter. Unfortunately, I went from wanting to major in Criminal of Justice to Aviation Mechanic/Technician.

I been with Delta for 11 years, and been schooling to my A&P. I have two semesters left (trying to transfer credits to knock down one), but when Im done I plan on going to Bakers Aviation school in Tennessee to test. Its a week or two long, and they charge a lot, like $1500-3000 for all the tests. But they pretty much guarantee you passing. They prep you, as well as give you the test & certs, so its worth it in my eyes. You can try testing on your own, but you still have to drop $600-800 every time you take a test, and theres no guarantee you pass.

Wish all y'all the best and hope to see you in that field.

It definitely is worth it as you're investing in your future and guaranteed to pass. How's Delta? if you don't mind me asking.

Currently studying for the powerplant written exam. Any tips on the studying? I've been using the prepware study guides and app on the phone but, will be ordering the prepware program for the computer.

And most importantly, any tips on the oral & practical? I feel more nervous for that. :nerd:

If you go to Bakers, the will supply with all the books you need to study for the writers and orals.

best advice I can say is, study! lol, But depending on the DME you get. A lot of them really look for the "key word". then they move on to the next question.

First and foremost, Happy Thanksgiving NT fam!

Reviving this thread from the dead but, I just completed my 3 written exams this week (took me a while) and now the O&P is up next and as nerve wracking as it is, any tips on how to study for this?? Ordered the newest ASA O&P prep book but any tips would be appreciated.

Also, anyone ever gone through Avtech-Exams in Riverside? Some people have advised to take the 8 day refresher course for the O&P and that it's worth the $1300-$1500. I'm stuck debating whether to invest the saved up money I have and attend the 8 day course or saving it and by attending the 5 week test & review class at the school I graduated (which may or may not help me out in testing with my school's DME).

Looked up Bakers and love their guaranteed pass rating but, way over my budget in flying, hotel, O&P course and DME cost.
