A lot of people I know that was in the United States Military of any branch tend to be soo well off financially after they've done their term. Like, I see them drive nice cars and live in nice size houses. Also, they got that veterans preference, which gives them first dibs on those high paying federal government LE jobs. So, my question is, is it safe to say once you're out of the Military, you're pretty much well off financially?

yes

unless you blow your money on da hemi or BMW

I know stories in real life, o yea kids too multiple kids

You see a small/select % man.

It is always discussed how folks that served come out broke and not being able to secure jobs

They have a better chance at landing a job then most of us do fresh out of college.

I'm in the military, been in a while, and no we're not really that well off. We make more than some, but we make less than most. And we sacrifice a lot Fam. A. Lot. But we get a decent retirement, and many programs are geared towards the military and their veterans, so even though we're not really well off, we do get a lot of perks. For example, my daughter just graduated high school and will go to college for free, and actually she'll get paid while she attends. I'll transfer my Post 9/11 GI Bill to her. She'll make a hell of a lot more than when I went to school by leaps and bounds, my wife and I will put that money aside because I don't want my labor to finance any ********, and she'll have it for a nice nest egg when she grads from college. My son will go to school for free because as a Texas resident, and being a resident when I enlisted I will transfer my Hazlewood Act monies to him in 4 years should he not receive a scholarship.

i know a guy that copped a 5 series BMW when he got out (new)

and don't even support his child...............im not friends with her no more but last i heard she said she was finally gonna take him to court

he never threw a ring on it like he said he was gonna do either :smh:

I hear those stories too, and I seent it, usually it's the junior guys that think the grass is greener on the other side and they don't take into account the amount of $$$$ it takes to really make it out there. The senior guys who do a full 20 or even more have it gravy. My dad did almost thirty, retired E9, which is the highest enlisted rank, and he never has to work, and he hasn't in about 15 years, he and my stepmom clean up. But his health has taken a real hit though.

It's entirely possible to cop a 5 Series, if he was smart with his scratch, but hell, the cats working elsewhere can do the same. Now, when we go out on deployments, towards the end a lot of auto makers/salesmen fly out to the ship and they offer us discounts on newer cars from the factory and **** built to our specifications at really good prices, so he might have came up that way, like I said we're not well off, but we get a lot of perks. Our health takes a hit, depending on what we do, hell, I just turned down surgery so I can transfer to Bahrain, that supposed to be a sweet deal. Lot of perks with that too.

My cuz is in the military. He 29 making a good amount of money. But the sacrifices he makes, and the constant moving...is tough on him and his family. He's doing well though financially.

His right hand man on the other hand is down bad, got PTSD and is struggling. Basically, it's what you make it according to him. My cuz is a real hard working determined dude. Dude started putting some of his military money into other ventures.

Can I pm you in about an hour?

Yes and no. My dad is retired 30 years in the Navy so he's retirement is nice. He's also still working as a contractor so the money still flowing in.

The moving part is what was hardest for me and my family. My son just started to get in his groove when we were in San Diego, then we moved to Podunk Corpus Christi and he had to start all over. To avoid this being that I have a significant amount of time in, I've been thinking about moving the Fam up the road to San Antonio, big/nice city, good quality of life, my son can still play football, my wife can get an even better job, plus my daughter will be going to UTSA so it will work out and I'll go station to station on my own.

I say they are making strides in the right direction but still not close to where they should be.

Most of the people you think come out ahead usually saved a bunch while serving and took advantage of the training and scholarships which lead them to a nice career outside of the military.

It's not the military itself feedin them.

I work with a lot of ex military.

One of my boys was a SEAL

Like, it appears that Vets have it sweet. Prime example, I was one call away to get in with the United States Secret Service UD 2 years ago, but they told me that they chose Vets. Me, I just have a degree. Like, you guys can get a job anywhere before someone that isn't a vet with experience. Looking back, if I knew what I know now, I would've joined the Military after High School and get Vets preference and have a nice saving to go along with it. You guys have it made!!

I have several friends that have served and some are doing well off and some aren't. One is still serving and is stationed in Hawaii, one has a cushy office job within the National Guard, one did his service and went to nursing school and lives fairly well, one did his service and did nothing with his money besides spent it and works at home depot and the other did his service and blew all his money on booze and escorts now works at a liquor store. All of them served in the Army except for the guy who works at the liquor store he was a Marine.

Trust the percentage is low of military dudes that's eating. A lot are lifted out or not using their benefits for their future.

Man Military is cool if that is what you want but that isn't a guarantee in life and you can die.

End of the day if you're smart and use your GI Bill you should be to a nice start and not be "struggling"

Also some cats turn into alcoholics or have post war issues.

You sound like one of those recruiters I met at age 19......feeding me smoke and mirrors.

I won't even get into how many military couples cheat on each other......

Whole diff topic.

Most struggle financial, a portion really abuse the GI bill. It's why to me the military service is a sort of welfare in a sense. While the people did work for it, people do abuse those funds for the wrong things.

Though my friends who used it actually used it for good. But I've heard horror stories when they talked about some of their other comrades.
