Monthly Bills

If you eatin organic and coppin crap at whole foods i can see how grocery bill is like rent

Not even organic.

Try to buy in bulk if possible. Eating from the dollar menu isn't an option anymore, also try to eat as much real good as possible.

What I'm about to say is probably going to he controversial but saving money in a traditional savings account just doesn't make sense to me.

You have to have liquid emergency money but I think you should have as much of your money working for you as possible.

umm.....there's nothing controversial about that idea at all. that's the thought process behind any form of investing (IRAs, 401k, day trading, etc.) making your money work for you is finance 101. I thought everyone did that.

Like I'll never have more than 6 months of household bills in my savings account and if the right investment opportunity presented itself I'd dip into to it.

I passed on buying an investment property 3 months ago because I needed to pay cash for it and is one of the biggest mistakes I've made financially.

There's plenty of local grown produce in every city state. You just google farmers market near (whatever city you live in) and results will pop up. There's WholeFoods in Cali and WholeFoods in Nebraska. There's farmer's markets in Cali and farmer's markets in Nebraska. That's not causing a $300-$400 jump in monthly groceries. Its the choice between someone going spending $20 a day on breakfast, lunch, and dinner vs someone spending $200 a month on groceries to cook for the week and dining out on the weekends.
This is very true. But at the same time if cost of living is more it trickles down to everything else food, gas, etc..

Also I'm not sure about other states but local grown produce in NY is more expensive to me.

Depends. My e-fund is in a standard saving. I'm not trying to make money off of it. If I'm saving for an upcoming purchase, lets say a vacation at the end of the year or a new tv, I'm also putting that in a normal savings. I won't be making any significant gains on it in a short period of time to warrant the risks. If I'm saving up for a house down payment to purchase in 3 years, then yeah I'll do another type of investment account since I'll probably see enough gains after 3 years.

Gotdamn

The hell you driven a Lamborghini?

Nah. It's actually a Toyota Avalon. I just got it last month for $32k out the door. Navy Fed offered me 1.79% interest for 36 months so I'm trying to pay it off quick then ride with it til the wheels fall off.

Rent - $1200
Electric/Gas - $100 on average
Cable/Internet/Spoify/Gym Membership - $135
Food - fluctuates, estimate could be off but about $500 monthly
Cell - $110
Student Loans - $180, factoring in a quarterly repayment that increases to avg $250/month

No car, no car insurance (live in NYC, no kids, easier to move on PT). Paid off my CC at the turn of the new year, thankfully.

Putting some away in savings 2x a month although not a set amount, so that also fluctuates.

Oh to live in an apartment again...

I miss having mad low utilities, no lawn care costs, no homeowner's insurance, etc. I swear my house and all the costs associated with it take up so damn much of my money. :smh:

It's a necessity for my situation, but I swear home ownership is vastly overrated.

I'm legit torn between copping a home and staying in my little cheap apartment.

I just can't get over the ancillary costs associated with it.

Plus I'm a single dude and will probably be at home for 60 hours in a given week MAX

Real estate is fastest way for regular people to build wealth.

I hate I waited til I was married to buy.

My Gf and I spend $800 on food a month and we rarely throw anything out. All groceries from the supermarket. What are we doing wrong? We also live in NYC if it matters.

First question is where are you shopping for your groceries?

What kind of food are you buying? For example, are you buying all ready made products or things you have to prepare.

Do you shop with a list, or just grab and buy as you see it?

$38 cell phone
$40 hair cut (2x / month)
$300 est. ($10 / day) food
$300 est. ($10/day) gas
$20 Car wash (basic monthly wash)
$247 Car
$140 car insurance

will cont. later..

Wanna see some expenses from ppl with kids. First born on the way & I feel like day care is gone kill my pockets smh
My kid starts kindergarten in August.

Thinking about all that extra dough we'll have again makes me rejoice.  Daycare is no joke, and my kid only went 3 days/week.

Unless you're buying caviar porter houses and lobsters everyday there's no reason to be paying more than 100 a week for food

Y'all bugging

20 work days in a week... that's $200 for lunch

Eating out 2 times during the week for four weeks = 30 x 2 x 4 = $240

There's $440 not including the weekend meals or groceries to buy or even any type of breakfast.
