There comes a time in every man's life when on his way to full maturation, he experiences a moment, or series thereof, that challenges every fiber of resiliency that lies within him. If the heart could talk, this moment would produce a terminal rebel yell...as the only life that it's ever known here, is threatened...perhaps, to the point of extinction.
Unfortunately, Carolina, that time for us, as a whole, is now.
For parts of eight Madden seasons in this league I set out on making a boyhood mission a virtual reality: delivering a championship to an organization which has represented one of the only constants in my life. I owed that to the last remaining pillar, the only unbroken cornerstone that still stood tall in the Life of Retto. And I went to war...WE went to war...and with a pride unmatched by any, envied by most, but respected by all.
126 times over the past two Madden seasons, I suited up in the only colors that have ever meant anything to me...and I'm proud to say that we were victorious in 103 of those occasions. A record, again, unmatched by any: 103-23. Let that sink in...WE did that!
Amid all of the vitriol, the criticisms, the blind jealousy...the erroneous claims (He can't win without Cam, He's a product of his team, He played in a weak division/conference, etc...the ******** we've heard could fill a heaven-sized body of land)...we thrived, proved all of them wrong, and you, Carolina, helped me stake my claim as the best player this league has seen.
The age-old battle scars that I earned here will always remain, and will forever be worn with honor: Seattle, Washington, Chicago, New York, St. Louis, New Orleans, and so many other cities...we dueled against some of the best players here, to whom I give much respect, and hope that I've earned theirs in the process.
And while our ultimate crowning achievement has yet to be checked off...just know that what we had, no bum, detractor, or short-sighted, unknowledgeable, and irrelevant critic can ever tarnish. They can only try to eradicate what we've done, usually in an effort to rationalize themselves as being in our company and/or mask the fact that they haven't done a damn thing that's notable here...unless joining a choir constructed in honor of me counts.
They didn't post the league's first-ever (and only) undefeated slate. They forget the many last minute drives, and last-second defensive stands...the obliterations, the nuances sprinkled into a craft that helped shape the bounds of the very league that they, annually, find themselves trying to survive in.
They forget about the seasons and Madden careers we halted when they set foot into our building. They don't have the hindsight, nor the capacity, to remember, with our backs to the wall, against Kenny, Flash, Jesus, Jose, among others...that we, very often, found new ways to overcome when it seemed all too grim.
They forget the 14 MONTH -- not game, month -- home winning streak. They forget the trends that we set league-wide, the play-calling innovation and one-of-one style that had, and has, players all over the league, trying their hardest to replicate what we typically make look so easy.
They forget that NOBODY in the league that I've played more than once has a winning record against me. Therefore, no one else here can hold that accolade...we're in our own company. Yes, the two missed rings still hurt, especially given that I truly believe we played the better game both times, yet the craziest circumstances reared their heads to derail what would've been our biggest achievements...I couldn't have positioned our troops any better, but that's life...sometimes things don't go your way, no matter what you do within your control. If things always happened as they should, this very collection of epithets wouldn't have ever had to have been formed.
I digress...but that aforementioned factoid is what I truly think success is...what being the best here is. It's all because of the work we put in, day in, night in, day out, countless sleepless night out. We owned it...we dominated it...the most anyone could get was an even split with us. No superiors...none!
So let the same old ones who, after all this time, still revel in our few low moments and hold on to those continue to do so...because the work we put in, even if one were to include the minuscule number of valleys, is greater than their entire careers combined. They can't process the level of understanding required to know that the losses we took, I take just as much pride in as the victories, if not more; they hardened my mettle, crafted a veteran, enhanced my attributes, offered the necessary lessons and let me know that if being this good were easy, all the ones who spend their time worrying about me, rather than the ****shows they produce on the weekly, would be this good too.
It's cool, though...remember, it's the double standards that the best must deal with. I'll take these lessons with me as well.
Admittedly, it does hurt greatly that I must deal with starting anew, in a new city with a new team. People will speculate if I can win from the pocket (like they haven't seen me do so PLENTY of times, but lazy narratives with no merit have always run amok around here), as if I haven't won in every possible fashion before (which I'll do on plenty more occasions)...that's the easy part...
What they should wonder is if I'll even care as much, now that I have to protect a franchise which is not the only one that I hold even a modicum of attachment to. I can't possibly match the amount of pride that I played with here...I gave you everything I had, every game, every play, every practice...I can win wherever, but the joy of winning will never match that of winning in the Queen City...for the Queen City.
But, win, still, I must...and, believe me when I say...I will. And whatever I do this year...my new location won't change the fact that I'll always be Carolina's Favorite Son. In the interim, I'm waiting for the season to start so I can use the anger of not being where I truly belong to my advantage...you know my mind was always my greatest asset, the psychology of the game on another level from any.
That's exactly why I had to go...here.
I needed an alternate home as black, as dark, as villainous as my hatred-infested Madden soul has now become. I needed a space that could encompass my entire psychological playground...where the vacillating lunacy, the rabid obsession, the insatiable hunger...the solitude, the grotesquely beautiful pain, and the growth from it...could all bloom as poetically as possible. I needed a tradition (even if it can't be ours, for now) and a heritage that I could cling to and bring to past glory once more.
One that reflects this rather...unhinged persona, that I tried my hardest to refrain from tapping into, so well. One where my misunderstood brethren can all gather, front and center, to watch their newest general, fueled by an inexorable callousness that they, better than anywhere else that isn't Carolina, can identify with, as I decimate any and everyone that isn't an ally...
And there are no allies.
I'm not situationally tapping into this side any longer...taps were meant for a dance floor. Contrarily, I now beckon the completion of its consumption of me. The vigor! The vigor! Why did I ever resist what was always so natural?
The beautiful irony in that is that we'll still be predominantly clad in the same colors. Even with their greatest efforts, nothing can break this unity...but, I guess when these same pitiful efforts amount to nothing on the field, it's only feasible to put them elsewhere. #Logic
They thought they forced me out of a comfort zone...fools! Don't they realize that they only renovated it, while destructing themselves in the process? The blood that I will soon shed will be on their hands, as it, simultaneously, emits from their bodies...until I claim what has always been rightfully mine...
And then, sooner than you know, I'll be back to finally seize what's ours.
Fret not, Carolina; I'm not gone forever, or even at all for that matter! How could I ever be when you've occupied the football field of my heart since your NFL inception? I may not be playing for you right now, but I'm always playing FOR you...
Know that...and know that this isn't over. You gave the greatest competitor this league has known a place to display his talents, and I can't state how grateful I am to have called Charlotte my Madden home.

Going for it on 4th down is allowed, but only under realistic circumstances. We want to avoid strict rules here (e.g. “Teams can only go for it on 4th & inches within the opponent’s 40”), but nobody better be going for it on 4th down in their own territory unless it’s a 2nd half blowout, or early in the game for any reason. We do want to allow for situational aggression (e.g. 4th & 3 on an opponent’s 35 or at the opponent’s goal line). If you're not sure, pause the game and ask.

[COLOR=#red]NO HUDDLE[/COLOR]
No huddle is permitted, but realistically so. At the end of each half under 2 minutes, no huddling is permitted entirely. Outside of these ends of halves, teams may run the no-huddle for up to 2-3 plays at a time, but not on every drive and not as their base offense (and remember: the rules explicitly forbid excessive play & concept repetition—a more limited selection of plays out of no huddle is not an excuse for calling the same plays).
• Additionally, no huddle offenses must still let the defense set for several seconds before snapping, unless the clock is truly ticking down to the final seconds of a half/game.
Why?
• There is a subtle but important difference between No Huddle and Up Tempo. Most NFL offenses do not stay in No Huddle for long stretches of time, but many NFL teams do employ varying degrees of Up Tempo stretches.
[COLOR=#red]NO QUICK-SNAPPING[/COLOR]
Quick-snapping is prohibited. This means snapping the ball the moment the offense lines up. Offenses must always give the defense a few seconds to make pre-snap adjustments. Exceptions are at the end of halves where time is of the essence.
Why?
• A variety of reasons. Primarily because it takes a few adjustments involving several button presses to mimic what is accomplished in the NFL instantaneously (i.e. coverage shading or alignments). Also because a single defensive matchup adjustment in the NFL (e.g. press WRs, shade coverage outside to direct them toward safety help inside) may need to be replicated for every play in Madden.
• We acknowledge that faster-paced, quick-huddle offenses are a real thing in the NFL, but for all of the reasons outlined above, this is not currently represented well in Madden. Establishing a quicker pace than normal is okay, but quick-snapping to prevent defenses from making standard adjustments is not a balanced representation of fast-paced NFL offenses.
[COLOR=#red]STAT PADDING[/COLOR]
Stat abuse is not permitted and will be monitored. This includes both running up the score and individual player stat padding. Stat padding can involve a single game, a single player in a single game, or a single player in a season.
Examples of running up the score could include but are not limited to:
• Throwing the ball more than ~once per drive when ahead by 28 points midway through the 3rd quarter.
• Not running the clock out with vanilla runs when ahead by several scores and 7 minutes remaining.
• Not kneeling the ball when you can run the clock out.
• Keeping all stars in the game and running the same types of plays while up several scores in the 4th quarter.
Examples of stat padding could include but are not limited to:
• Your RB rushes 35 times for 295 yards and 4 TDs in a game you win by 35 pts, and your RB2 only gets 3 carries.
• Several games into the season, your WR is on pace for 2,500+ yards and 20 TDs.
• Your QB is on pace for 6,000 yards passing.
o Note: we’re not out to get you. Sometimes you play in a sportsmanlike fashion and still win by a lot. What we want to regulate is intentionally running up the score with unsportsmanlike gameplay.
[COLOR=#red]12/12 RULE - MIX IT UP[/COLOR]
• Mix up your play calling! A single pass play shouldn’t be called more than 4-5 times in a single game. The same pass route concepts can be called more often than this out of different formations/looks, but not to the point of abuse (i.e. constant slants or verticals out of different formations is not allowed). Run plays tend to be more vanilla (inside/outside zones, power, dives, counters, sweeps & tosses) and thus much more leeway will be granted in how often standard run plays are called.
o Play call repetition rules apply no matter the situation (e.g. you may not audible to Slants 5x per game or 4 Verticals another 5x just because you’re running a no huddle offense).
o As with other subjective rules, the commissioners will deal with this case by case. If you toe too closely to the line of what’s acceptable, be prepared for punishment.

Outside of these ends of halves, teams may run the no-huddle for up to 2-3 plays at a time, but not on every drive and not as their base offense (and remember: the rules explicitly forbid excessive play & concept repetition—a more limited selection of plays out of no huddle is not an excuse for calling the same plays).
• Additionally, no huddle offenses must still let the defense set for several seconds before snapping, unless the clock is truly ticking down to the final seconds of a half/game.
Why?
• There is a subtle but important difference between No Huddle and Up Tempo. Most NFL offenses do not stay in No Huddle for long stretches of time, but many NFL teams do employ varying degrees of Up Tempo stretches.
[COLOR=#red]NO QUICK-SNAPPING[/COLOR]
Quick-snapping is prohibited. This means snapping the ball the moment the offense lines up. Offenses must always give the defense a few seconds to make pre-snap adjustments. Exceptions are at the end of halves where time is of the essence.
Why?
• A variety of reasons. Primarily because it takes a few adjustments involving several button presses to mimic what is accomplished in the NFL instantaneously (i.e. coverage shading or alignments). Also because a single defensive matchup adjustment in the NFL (e.g. press WRs, shade coverage outside to direct them toward safety help inside) may need to be replicated for every play in Madden.
• We acknowledge that faster-paced, quick-huddle offenses are a real thing in the NFL, but for all of the reasons outlined above, this is not currently represented well in Madden. Establishing a quicker pace than normal is okay, but quick-snapping to prevent defenses from making standard adjustments is not a balanced representation of fast-paced NFL offenses.
[COLOR=#red]STAT PADDING[/COLOR]
Stat abuse is not permitted and will be monitored. This includes both running up the score and individual player stat padding. Stat padding can involve a single game, a single player in a single game, or a single player in a season.
Examples of running up the score could include but are not limited to:
• Throwing the ball more than ~once per drive when ahead by 28 points midway through the 3rd quarter.
• Not running the clock out with vanilla runs when ahead by several scores and 7 minutes remaining.
• Not kneeling the ball when you can run the clock out.
• Keeping all stars in the game and running the same types of plays while up several scores in the 4th quarter.
Examples of stat padding could include but are not limited to:
• Your RB rushes 35 times for 295 yards and 4 TDs in a game you win by 35 pts, and your RB2 only gets 3 carries.
• Several games into the season, your WR is on pace for 2,500+ yards and 20 TDs.
• Your QB is on pace for 6,000 yards passing.
o Note: we’re not out to get you. Sometimes you play in a sportsmanlike fashion and still win by a lot. What we want to regulate is intentionally running up the score with unsportsmanlike gameplay.
[COLOR=#red]12/12 RULE - MIX IT UP[/COLOR]
• Mix up your play calling! A single pass play shouldn’t be called more than 4-5 times in a single game. The same pass route concepts can be called more often than this out of different formations/looks, but not to the point of abuse (i.e. constant slants or verticals out of different formations is not allowed). Run plays tend to be more vanilla (inside/outside zones, power, dives, counters, sweeps & tosses) and thus much more leeway will be granted in how often standard run plays are called.
o Play call repetition rules apply no matter the situation (e.g. you may not audible to Slants 5x per game or 4 Verticals another 5x just because you’re running a no huddle offense).
o As with other subjective rules, the commissioners will deal with this case by case. If you toe too closely to the line of what’s acceptable, be prepared for punishment.
