Anyone looking into moving to Europe (or any other country/continent), for reasons other than job opportunities?

What countries/cities appeal to you and why?

Anyone already done the move? Where did you go and how has your experience been? Would you recommend it?

For me, I'm just ready for something different socially.

Some of the things going on in America I need to get away from. I know every place has their problems, but I'd trade some of those problems for the problems we have.

I'm sure there will be a small increase for inquires among people wanting to leave if trump wins presidency

I heard people are gettin free room in costa rica to teach anglish or somethin like that.

I was prolly lied too.

I think every year or two i'll hear on the news a story about someone leaving to go and work at a resort in a place like the Bahamas. I've been to a nice island resort before. Would seem nice for a few years but then the isolation would have me bored.

Europe might not be the best place to go if you're looking to avoid racism

it's the first thing I started to look into....

racism can't be avoided no matter where you go... but from my brief research, the common theme is that the racism is "different" over there depending on the country...

in some, it's based on country of origin and/or economic situation

Why not Canada instead of Europe? I don't intend to ever move from Belgium but Canada is certainly at the top of my list if I would. Followed by Sweden or Germany
There's racism no matter where you go but most European countries are indeed less troublesome. Just don't go to the UK, that's not the place you want to be right now as a minority. France is reportedly pretty bad too.

Canada was always choice #1, but the weather sucks and it just SEEMS too much like America... like Diet America

My family tree dates back to Canada. I still have some far relatives living there. To me it seems like a more positive America. A healthy mix of the US and Europe. Everyone speaks English, generally a friendly society, great education and healthcare system, multicultural society, decent economy, ...
Canada pops up a lot in people's top preferred countries of residence here.

Have you lived in or traveled to other countries before? I'd think that'd be the best starting point. Let's be realistic... NO ONE is packing up and moving to another country they've never even visited before UNLESS it's for a job assignment. Good luck explaining to the new country you are an unemployed American looking to seek refuge and start a new life in their country

a) where in my post did it say that I would just up and go to a place I didn't visit and scout first?

b) where in my post did it say that I would quit my job if I moved?

stop making stuff up fam....

Not sure my body is ready for that weather....

trust me tho, Canada seems like a great place to live overall -- it just may not be what im looking for in a move...

Vancouver is the part of Canada that doesn't get cold and the women are beautiful.  Thing is cost of living is like SF level high there.

If you're serious about it, look into the Caribbean or Central America.

price is a big factor in moving.... SF makes Miami look cheap

a) I never said you would. Just recommend that you do if you haven't already. As stated in my post that'd be my first step.

b) I never said you would.

This just made it seem like you were looking to move and get a new job. It'd be very difficult for most to move to another country and keep their job any way.

I'm not making stuff up I'm just trying to help. Chill fam

It's really hard for Americans to get jobs in Europe and you'll need a job unless you're either a trust fund baby or a street cat

just not sure why you'd even bring it up in the first place I guess....

and said not for job opportunities because that's typically why people move to foreign countries, because they got a job offer --- not that they just wanted to up and leave ...

so I wanted to hear from people that wanted to just up and leave

thats is where i would go..........but

they missing a lot of things we have in the USA

Canada sounds right and they have better health care.......no?

They got that universal health care but my friend says the best doctors or care aren't always made available to you. Like her friend's child needed an operation and the parents did not like the options that the health care system said she could use.

whats wrong with cold weather in Canada?

you can always add layers in the cold, but you can't take off layers in the hot...

all you need is a good down jacket, some sturdy boots, and you are good to go...frigid temps build character

Id move to Spain, France, Italy, or Japan. Id only want to live in these places temporarily though, more so get a work visa/permit and stay there and experience the culture/lifestyle as a non tourist. I also wouldn't mind the Bahamas.

I'd live in Puerto Rico permanently though

My brother currently lives in PR along with family.

It's difficult. I like my current work lifestyle/salary and the diversity of cultures here in California, but I also HATE the violence and ignorance in this country. It's gotten to the point that I've grown numb to mass shootings and cops killing black people because it's basically a normal occurrence now :smh: :x

If I could keep my current job, I'd move to Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, or Singapore ASAP. Unfortunately, I know from my relatives and friends in Asia that they work you like slaves in those countries in my industry (accounting/finance), so I'd have to pass :smh:  Actually I guess they do that here in the US too, but I work in the Silicon Valley with a lot of startups, so my lifestyle is a lot more laid back compared to people working in big firms.

I'd move to Portugal too, but damn, that's the opposite end of the spectrum. Laid back work lifestyle IF you can even find a job with that high @#$ unemployment rate  :smh: It's so damn difficult to get a good job there if you're young.

I guess Canada would be a good compromise. It's just that I literally know no one up there, unlike countries in Asia and Europe where I have relatives and friends.
