How Do You Feel About Your Child Being Exposed To Same Sex Couples Through Cartoons/Kids Shows (Nick

If I had a child there's no way in hell id let them watch this.

Sex. Or anything related to that shouldn't even be on a child's mind in such a young age.

I don't care.

Children don't even notice stuff like that when they are young.

You couldn't be more wrong.

People generally aren't able to remember things before age 2-3 but that doesn't mean that kids are idiots before they turn 10.

They notice and soak up everything.

You've never been in or seen a funny situation where a kid brings up something that adults are ignoring to be nice or to maintain proper manners?

We all like to say this but I was definitely thinking about sex to some degree with a wee wee that didn't even work since I was like 5. Or at the very least, kissing and liking girls.

Cartoons should not be a platform to voice/weave in certain adult topics since the target audience isn't even old enough walk to the corner store by themselves.  The only thing cartoons should show is robots transforming, ninja turtles kicking butt and smurfs smurfing.

lmao

yeah they do.
kids soak up everything.

there's no way you have kids.

nah no kids. I got young nephews that stay with me in canada during the school year.

They never asked me questions about that until they were 10-12 and they were exposed to content with gay people before that. (comics)

I'm the type of uncle that will answer ANY question, so they ask me anything. Gay people never really reached their radar until they were older.

So? What do you think will happen, they will see this and turn gay?

If that was the case there should be zero gay people because there have been zero gay people in media up untill very recently.

Well yea I can agree with that .

I'm all for exposing kids to the realities of the world from an early age.

me too.

I pretty much will answer any questions my nephews ask me.

and I encourage them to think and ask any question.

better they get while i'm around to clarify/awnser questions, then them learning it from other kids.

Kids will learn about this stuff at some point.

Would rather learn about from kids on the playground or from and adult?

Not necessarily but I do believe that things get planted in your subconscious due to what you consume. Kids can become fascinated with the most random things.

I feel like it's not kids network's places to force that conversation at age 5, 6, 7. I'mma be honest I'm not trying to explain how or why two men can't make babies to a 6 year old.

I know people like to have this revisionist history that they would be mature enough to have that discussion at age 6 but I'm in favor of letting kids be kids.

Parents have the right to control what their children watch. They don't want them to watch a gay cartoon then take the remote and do some real parenting.

Heck, Al Bundy exposed me to misogyny at a young age.

Flipped the channel and NWA was yelling F the Police. TV has always been the best social studies teacher.

that doesn't mean they aren't paying attention. they are extremely observant.

most kids don't know how to express themselves at young ages enough to ask such a question about same sex relationships...much less relationships period.

i work in a children's hospital and it's amazing how smart these kids are.

there are kids who can remember the steps of medical procedures at extremely young ages.

Second paragraph. This.

This, I don't even know why this is a discussion. Do you want them to be that awkward guy who wears a fanny pack and is surprised to see two dudes making out in college, even though he's had confusing/mixed feelings about his sexuality from a young age?

Watching same sex couples on TV won't make your son or daughter gay, that is the least of my concerns when it comes to what's in the media.
and yes they should be exposed to certain things but it should all be age appropriate

just like we shouldn't be exposing kids to violence at a young age

Sesame Street has done a great job for however many years preparing kids for a lot things that they will face or see in the world

Think about the characters and you can see something that can be learned.. And it's not being thrown in your face or being offensive to any particular group

Same thing I was about to type out, but better worded.

Better they gain the understanding and acceptance that every family might not be structured like their own and that love doesn't adhere to a specific mold, than to be sheltered from some of the diversity the world holds and go out into it struggling to wrap their heads around it later.

But maybe that's just an optimistic view of the potential benefits.

Regardless, I like that the portrayal of it in that scene wasn't over the top or preachy.

against it.

TV gonna make it seem like everyone is gay when only the small population of the world is gay. kids shouldnt be exposed to something like that at such a young age.
