The Official Nike LeBron 14 Thread. Retail $175

No sir. A champ pack would sell out right away given the historical significance of the win. No way would a champ pack sit.

I'm just speculating to be honest and Nike's made Champ Packages in the past so for them not to do something this time around means that there the profit simply ain't there.

Maybe they'll drop one closer to when the XIV officially launches just to give the LBJ brand a quick boost.

Nike HAS to put a memorable model on the feet of James.

Jordans and retro models sell to an older audience because they remember when their favorite player wore that shoe. They sell to a new generation because they want that vintage feel. The strongest selling point for Jordan Brand is nostalgia.

MEMORIES matter.

Hopefully, since they reportedly scrapped what they had in the spring, this is a sign that they are putting a legitimate effort into this model. I have absolutely ZERO issues waiting as long as it takes for a high quality, high inspiration, and highly memorable model.

I agree with what you've posted on your blogs.

I'm also not holding out for a memorable LBJ XIV at this stage. Look at Nike's present design language with the Durant, Irvings & Kobes - the LBJ will be something similar.

nike/petrie/team lebron have dropped the ball on direction of this line.

i always feel like just basketball alone has never driven sales or made a shoe popular or unpopular. part of the reason why the jordan line was so successful in the original days (NOT RETRO) was because the shoe looked great on court and had a great deal of casual appeal.

nike basketball decided that they wanted to go in a different direction with the footwear (towards hardcore functionality and away from aesthetics). petrie hasn't done that good of a job in designing memorable models especially after the X. and his work before that is nowhere near the imprint that tinker left.

don't get me wrong, there are great models in the lebrun line. but def no "jordan xi" memorable model (imo)

and team lebron hasn't been as involved with the line as kobe and MJ during his day. all of that has put the line where it is now.

IN THE DUMPS (imo)

i have read articles in the past that state lebrun and his team come into the board room and almost literally say "i want my shoe to look like a hummer H2" and walk out. that is not true involvement in the direction of your sig.

Good to see this thread still going, lol. I hope LeBron gets a young brother as his new designer, one that has his ear to the ground. Get rid of whomever is doing the stuff right now LeBron, demand a change, get somebody new in there, a young cat from around the way. Make it happen!

Completely agreed, Petrie has dropped the ball.

VI, VII, VIII were a three peat of my favorite sigs in the LeBron line.

Ever since the engineered mesh days began, the durability as far as less creasing and things of that nature are nice, but I'm beyond tired of wearing plastic on my feet.

I'm still praying for an opening night miracle sighting of the 14's...although I'm fully prepared for a "Ring Night" Soldier X, or a sick retro from the closet.
We used to already have the LeBron's on people's feet around Asia by October 1..

Hated how the 'Ring Ceremony' LeBron X's were a PE though. As for retro... why not pull out the AZG to throw it back to where the journey began?

Sure, there's the select few of us that would collect every single LeBron retro that dropped, but would a retro 13 have the same hype ten years from now that a Jordan 13 does?

I completely understand Nike is pushing for on court performance, but they have to think about the future. Style, materials, and design matter.

MEMORIES matter.
Agreed. Though I think the 7's were one of the most popular ones even though there isnt much history tied to them.

X's by far are most memorable to me.

Ring Ceremony XI's too

Agreed, stop this BS Elite, Lifestyle garbage and give us one damn GR that does all the aforementioned. It used to be that way for decades until Nike got extra greedy and started diluting their signature lines.

They are dropping the ball with his sigs lately, I know I'm a minority here but I loved the XI not so much the feel but the shoe looked good to me and would've liked them to go in that direction after, but I hated the XII aestheticly and the XIII was meh in terms of looks. I think they were onto something with making 3 models of each shoe (reg, elite, lifestyle) but the execution has missed. All LS have been ugly to me and there supposed to be the ones to wear casually. So obviously they can't get it right so hey they do need to stick to making 1 model that can be all in one as far as functionality, aesthetics and comfort. Maybe push a elite model with very slight tweaks because it has been synonymous with the line since the VII that I know of but that's it.

Nike... just give me something new, something different. Do not give me anything that you gave us before.

With that said... get Hiroshi on the phone ASAP

i agree. the lifestyle line has legs if they want to continue making lebrons out of materials that they say are better "performing" synthetic material.

the issue is, you have to have a good silhouette to start with. not gonna go back and forth on the 11 with anyone, everyone knows how contentious of a shoe it is/was. but, it was not a good silhouette for lifestyle materials.

the X was much better for that purpose. even though in most cases it wasn't executed well. the corks went over well, the denims were ok.

but with the X, as well as the 8 and the 7, so much good stuff was left on the shelf. if we had GRs or just a more widespread release of the 7 hero pack, MVP 7, all of those 8s that were left on the shelf, red suede X etc, we may have a different opinion on this line

Good news is we won't be getting the ugly Christmas colorway. On the Soldier X is okay cuz that shoe already ugly

I aint gonna lie...I used to cop Lebrons each year from 1 till 9 one to hoop in and one to chill in...after the the 9's I was like wtf...are they doing...aint no way I can wear these casually..and for damn sure cant hoop in these...plus I really started getting into low to mid cut shoes to hoop in cuz they was lighter.....I eventually sold majority of the ones I had and kept like 3 of my favorite pair why they keep making UGLY *** shoes for LBJ...I mean is he signing off on these or does he not have any say so.....??

The thing I have never understood is the mentality of what they release.

Who was in the meeting that suggested that a Hazelnut EXT would sell better than the Red Suede pair he wore? I just don't get it.

The thing is, at the time red shoes were at their peak, especially with the LeBron line with the coveted Elite 9 from the pack. That red suede 10 would have been an instant sell out and a timeless classic in the line. Now it's something we hope releases as a retro one day that no one can obtain currently.

GIVE US something Nike.

That opening night 12 with the metallic red posite, why would they not release that?

If we can't get these color ways at retail, give us the ability to on iD.

iD options have gotten more and more limited as time has gone on. They give us uppers like yellow and navy for brief periods and then take them away.

Hell, they have made iD's quick strikes now.

Just give us what the man plays in so we have a reason to keep coming back to the line twenty years from now.

Give home and away colorways again. Think the 9 was the last one that did it in the initial release

Re: the lack of Championship packs, etc... Nike must have access to marketing data and they must really feel that it doesn't make sense to produce a champ package that'll inevitably get marked down too.
I personally don't think Champ Packs have ever really been about profit for Nike, because they've never made enough of them to really make a big profit.  To me it's always been about recognition, celebrating an accomplishment of the athlete.  The prior MVP shoes, Champ Packs, for Bron have always been very very limited releases.  They retail for 250 or 500,  then resell for 2500.  Resellers made the real profit on those shoes, not Nike.  For that reason, I don't think you would ever see a Bron champ pack (if released the same way the past ones were) sit on shelves.  Even if it did include the XIII's, they would have amazing packaging, be in a great color, and resellers would pounce hard.

To me I really don't think Nike was ready for the Cavs/Bron/Kyrie to beat the Warriors. It just looks like they weren't prepared.  Maybe with Kobe retiring and all the effort they put in to his final shoes and the fade to black pack they neglected Bron's chances of winning.  It really just doesn't make sense to me.  Super lazy.

Nike been in a weird space for a minute now and I think it's arrogance and their assumed invincibility. It seems like NO ONE has a clue or a care about what to do. And they no longer care about the street aspect of their product outside of retro, which requires NO effort.

There is zero marketing across the board. All of the sig athletes shoes on court have not been available to the public. There may be a gratuitous wearing of a GR for a game or two and that's it. And the color ways available to the public are routinely and considerably worse than the multitudes or color ways the players wear. The lines ultimately have no substance. And this is what has hurt Lebrons line the most given his stature.

The products themselves have gotten worse because of the restrictive fit. The lebron XI was the pinnacle in signature design for his line. But the fit made it an THE most epic fail of all time. How does that even happen? The athlete himself can't even wear them? And on to the xii and xiii, the fit has gotten even worse for a product that is supposed to be made for the masses. Personally I love the look of the xii and xiii but the xiii is too unforgiving. The xiii requires too many wears to break in, enough to discourage wears but I love the fit of the xii.

Also, the idea of an "elite" is ultimately insulting. makes me ask, what the hell are you selling with the regular sig?

If lebron wore what was in the stores and if the fit was more forgiving like all of his sigs before the XI, I believe the XI-xiii would have a different legacy. I truly believe how the product is identified means more than the actual aesthetics, like Currys shoes etc because we've seen it over the years. Almost anything, can be made "hot."

I believe we are using a lil revisionist history when we talk about Lebrons line tho. It didn't really get mass attention until the SB 8. The best of Lebrons line consist of a few special releases and waaaaaay too many PEs and limited friends and family teasers. Outside of that, I think we have almost overstated this lines popularity because of their recent mind boggling fails. Traditionally, if it's not limited it's not selling out. And this is where Nike has dropped the ball. They have had marketing layups and they won't even shoot the shot.

Hell, they could've flooded the market with high quality tees by now. Why not have true championship options like celebratory graphics or something referencing the championship available for the soldier on ID? How about leaving the replica option up for longer than 30 minutes? That option should still be available now, just like a champ pack should be reasonably accessible. Give his fans a chance to have something for this historical feat. Or least act like it happened.

And those red suede X, my goodness...

Lol, where are those nike reps who were telling us that the release date had not come yet? lol Many of the comments pro nike are coming from a sneakerhead perspective, which is emotional and then not logical. Steph Curry and Yeezy are running things right now as far as trends go. Adidas is on the upswing, and Nike has flatlined in regard to popularity. LeBron's shoes while selling well, do not fit the off court asthetic that is popular right now, so his line really has no appeal to the non ball player. Steph Curry has the attention of the underdogs, and Nike has never paid any attention to them. Jordan is the only thing holding Nike at level, and even his line has begun to lose it's luster due to Yeezy's ability to promote himself. We are a "witness" to a shift in footwear pop culture, and Nike is not as relevant as they once were.

Agreed on everything.

Thing is, I don't mind PE's at all, but the first night back in Cleveland, 2 colorways and we get not one of them? That opening night 12 with the red posite were beautiful.

I just assumed they were gonna give us metallic options on the 12 like they did the xi.

So much could've been done with this line.
