How many minutes before a restaurant closes until you decide not to go in?

Went to eat at a restaurant with a friend and another one is meeting us there. Restaurant closes at 8, we get there at 7:20. We told the hostess/waitress another one is coming and she didn't seem too irritated. 7:30 comes along, still not here. 7:40, still not here. We call him at 7:45 asking where he is and on his way. He arrived at 7:57. :smh: You can tell she was mad. By that time we were already done eating and we had to wait for him too.

She even rushed him as he was trying to decide what to get. Gave him maybe 10 seconds to look at the menu.

She should've closed the door on him. A diner did that to me before. I was hungry too. That was a long damn night.

Back in the days I worked at an ice cream shop and there used to be a Jewish group of 10 or so coming in to buy ice cream <5 min before we closed. They never tipped a single dime. We'd have to turn to machines back on and take the ice cream back out.

When u work in that industry it's apart of the game. If u close at 10 it's fair game at 9:59. I used to work at panera and they gave a 5 .instead grace period smh. Like we close at 10 but u can come in until 10:05.

I remember this dude and girl ended up on a blind date there. They came in around 7 and stayed til after closing. Like we mopping and everything and they keep saying their about to leave. She wasn't letting son come thru afterwards so he was milking that time. I wasn't even mad, I was rooting for homie Cuz Ole girl was a regular and I wanted somebody to smash. Crazy part is my boy Jason that worked with us ended up hitting her a month later with minimal effort.

I went to this bar and grill spot around the way 25-30min before they closed and I got the worst service I've ever gotten at a restaurant smh. The waitress gave no *****, she told us we ****** up her plans for the night, said a manager wasn't available to speak with us.And the worst part of all.. I still left that ***** a tip

I was at a restaurant once where my friend worked that was about to close for the night. I was giving my friend a ride, so I was hanging at the bar. Anyway, a woman and her son come in and they get a table. You could tell my friend (and the rest of the remaining staff) were irritated, but they put their game faces on and gave full service. I was randomly reading the newspaper a day or two later, and it turns out that woman was the top food critic of the biggest local paper. She had originally gone to another restaurant that had closed early that night, and she was hungry, so she tried their place instead and gave it a full review. She knew it was late, and even apologized in the story. But, she gave a glowing review and thanked the staff for being so great at such a late hour.

You never know who might be walking through that door.

Man if I'm spending money and you advertise a certain time, I have the right to request service. However I don't expect you to be in full service.

I know this feeling working in the airport in the semi fast food restaurant can be busy as hell for hours non stop. Those final 15 minutes is like New Years eve countdown to close and hurry the hell out of there for the whole staff

The WORST is when one person comes the very LAST minute and we make their food so we're required to stay open while we make their food past closing time... And a fat crowd comes of nowhere. Then we have a line for the next 30 minutes past closing time.

**** that job. Thank God I left

If it's the last 30 minutes, im good.

When I still worked retail I would hate that **** with a passion, so I dont do it to anyone else.

Specifically, to annoy you and make you ask this asinine question.

I was being serious though. I actually thought it was an awesome story.

An hour cause I ain't eating old **** or rushed undercooked **** just cause they want to leave

This would have nothing to do with the cooks , well not entirely. The only people that suffer truely are the front of house staff that have to wait for that one table to finish and leave...the people in the back can just leave, usually they'll have one cook worker closing up, but it won't have him as mad.

Welp lol

Anyway, I just thought of it after OP said he was treated like crap in a similar situation (late seating, staff not giving any effort). You never know who is walking through that door. That's all I'm saying.

Idk for me it's any time before they close. Because those businesses are supposed to serve you during the posted hours. They have separate hours for closing and whatnot.

If it's a bar, I'll pop in 5 minutes before last call if I can. Order two rounds and leave a good tip just because I know it's annoying. Restaurants, one hour.

30 minutes before closing.

If it was the spot where my friend cooks at, 5 minutes lol.
