I just started getting in to sneakers and I would like some help. Any tips? First shoes to buy?

Oh man...the account might be new but I've been on these boards and "collecting" since 2000. It's gotten to a point to where I've got a whole collection that I don't wear (and am currently trying to downsize). Sometimes I wish I didn't spend so much on sneakers.

What sneaker pulled you in? What sneaker did you look at that made you decide to collect? Buy that one, or one similar if it's not attainable. Trends come and go but the classics will always be desirable.

Just remember that as long as your looking online and on these boards, there'll ALWAYS be something new you'd want.

I'd tell you not to follow trends, but here I am wearing adidas for the first time since 2002.

if you exercise self control and put a cap on how many pairs you'll own, you should be fine.

dont get too attached to nothing and move things to acquire new things... sneakers do not appreciate in value like that so rock em and on to the next

Hey man. I can't stress enough, do not start planning first thing to start off on something huge first. Like "I'm gonna get every color way made for the LeBron 9, including the WTL's and Thrones. You will obsess over them and probably spend everything you get on them. Just take ot easy, research what you really enjoy, bookmark all Fleetwood jet stores online. Then take each one of them out. Many times the shoe your getting might be hard to deal with the price, but thw other one will have it at a steal. And please, do yourself a favor and not just try to get the limited releases, PE ect. Save your money and get only what catches your eye. Have fun and be ready ro spend way too much time looking online for upcoming releases, those dates and of course. .....

Spend too much damn money on shoes than any average human should ever do in his entire life (

I'm in the same boat.  Looking to get rid of some shoes and kind of almost wish I didn't get pulled in.  Buy what you like...not what's hot.

I still think about what I posted above.  I've considered myself not "collecting" since I bought a condo, but I still catch myself buying about 5 pairs a year.  I've always been into Nike and Jordan Retros, and adidas has been producing new, interesting shoes but lately I've developed a taste for higher end sneakers (namely Common Projects and Filling Pieces).

I'm not saying anything new I guess, but again, there's always something fresh, or there's something old coming back, and there are always whatever resellers are selling.

I hope OP is enjoying this crazy, frustrating "hobby".  Like someone said above, don't get attached to anything because your tastes will change.  Enjoy hunting but know when to move on.

Like many, I have stuff stored away at my parents house I don't even wear because I live 22 hours away lol.

My rule of thumb was no more than 2 colorways a model. I am still true to that except on Foams where I had 4, but I bought the black/red and black/cactus in 07/08 over hype of foams. Then the eggplants and coppers dropped so I had to get those. I stopped after that though.

Also, chill on retros. Cop shoes of today, it'll mean more in the future. Better quality in those anyways.
