Black Lives Matter: Why the dual agenda?

That is what its about.

[rule]
They are just saying BlackLivesMatter and reminding some black people that also includes black women and black LGBTQ people as well. They take the time to point out those subgroups  because in our black community there are some who do not treat black women with respect and are misogynistic. There are some who are homophobic and transphobic and don't care about LGBTQ issues even though their are black people in those communities and that they are still part of out community as well.

So the point of them saying that is because if a black women is dealing with sexism in the work place we all black people should be just as up in arms about that because she is a black life as well.

When a gay black person is being discriminated against because of homophobia we all as black people should be up in arms to defend them cause they are a black life as well.

If a trans black person is killed because they are trans we all as black should fight for their justice just as much as well because that is a black life as well.

Them bringing up the subgroups really comes down to making it ok and acceptable for all types of black people to be faces and for the movement  AND to have all types of black peoples including those subgroups in our black community backed by the movement.

Idk why this is hard to understand. Seemed clear to me.

Repped.

This pretty much sums it up. I don't get why it's so hard to understand.

What don't you understand?

I don't think you WANT to understand the concept of BLM. Western "Nuclear Family" means two parent households raise children etc.

African "Village" families means the entire village pitches in and helps raise kids up.

You've never heard the saying "It takes a village to raise a family"?

"village" is a euphemism for da government...

whoever wants to "disrupt" a nuclear family doesn't have anything good in mind.

Came so close to touching that one but was able to restrain myself.

I've been here more than long enough to know it won't go anywhere  :smh:

OP has me so confused right now. Where is your head at, my G?

its not that hard folks...

collectivism vs Individualism...

da nuclear family slander is because its a self contained stable unit that doesn't ostensibly need da way another arrangement does.

all in all...u saw what demands Black live matters asked for? might as well be occupy wallstreet..also funded by Soros.

You're black before anything else.
This is subjective, some people identify with their tribe, gender, sexual orientation, nation of origin before their race.

I don't mean to the individual themself. To everybody else in the world, you are what they see before anything else.

You can identify with whatever you want however you want. That doesnt mean anyone else is going to or has to care.

Ask Ninja

Also tribal living > nuclear family.

I mean ninja flat out denies being black, I see what you're saying but some people legit identify with their ethnic group or tribe and then their race.

Which kinda makes sense, especially within classically defined races. An Asian person will emphasize what country they come from but I suppose from the outside looking in some people will just see them as just another Asian person. A Kenyan person will introduce themselves as Kenyan instead of just black. America teaches us to simply identify by our race, it's a cultural thing.

This 1000 times. Thanks for saying that.

I notice that with white people sometimes they'll go into where their family is from, and Asians Hispanics, and Latinos will tell you their country of origin is it comes up/they weren't born here.

Most of us it's just black or "African"

OP the same dude who got bent out of shape in this thread

http://niketalk.com/t/617036/i-find-this-humorous-patronizing/60

about Nike "exploiting" black history month.

When I pointed out that they have exploitive labor practices and are keen about peddling cancer themed apparel and footwear he made it clear he only cares about his own community.

Evidently, it seems supporting his own community comes with some conditions.

As I said in that thread.

Like I said in a previous thread, nobody is free until we're all free. - Fannie Lou Hamer.

To undermine or dismiss the struggles of other minority groups convolutes the entire cause.

The irony of me quoting myself is that apparently I've said this repeatedly thread after thread.

Some people just don't learn.

Aside from the usual "big government" "individualism" and mythological crap ("nuclear family") from Ninja, I'm pleasantly surprised by the positive engagement with the BLM material.

A few things. There is BLM (a decentralized organization) and then there is the Movement for Black Lives,  a broader collection of countless groups working in service of black liberation. As you can see by the "Vision for Black Lives" platform (released just yesterday), there are a ton of approaches (some in tension) to that objective. But the platform provides a clear engagement with material conditions, makes policy interventions, and is one of the more radical visions we've seen. Peep it herehttps://policy.m4bl.org/

Before he was dismayed (scared?) by the whole idea of centering non-cis black men in the movement, ATLien drew attention to the aversion to "narrow nationalism." This is, I think, a very important point.

The 20th century is full of black social movements that constantly fall back on the pursuit of statehood and national self-determination. It shows up in Garvey's UNIA movement and its obviously there in Pan African Nationalist movements in the late '60s and early '70s. Along with the pursuit of black capitalism, always we fall back on nationalism.

But nationalism undoubtedly fueled the first World War. It was key to fascist regimes of the 1930s. Trump evokes a version of it (white nationalism) and Clinton/Obama reproduce a version of it by touting the whole 'greatest nation in the world' thesis. I think it is this toxicity that informs the rejection of narrow nationalism.

But lets go further. Can those of us who identify with the movement for black lives think of liberation outside of the nation-state? What is the place of physical territory in our struggle for liberation?

Didn't even know what cis gender was before this thread, don't think I'll be using that term any time soon

So I was looking into doing some things with this organization and before I put my money, time or effort in, I read their website and noticed the dual agenda with this movement. I'm willing to bet most people don't see beyond the misleading hashtags and catchphrases.

So before you continue, I suggest you read their about page.
Wow. Great. I'm all for that. This looks like something I would stand for.

Second half:
Wait... What? "narrow nationalism?!" "cis Black men???"

View media item 2120505
If you're as confused as I am, narrow nationalism apparently doesn't mean strict, stubborn support for your country. It apparently means strict rules on what it takes to be a black leader.

And "cis Black men"... Cis is short for "cisgender" which is any person who identifies with the gender they are genetically. Example: I was born a male, I identify as male, I am cisgender.

Don't worry, I didn't know about that word until I read it there either... Which leads me to my point.

So apparently, the founder/s is/are lesbian feminist (I haven't done much fact checking) and using #BLM as a Trojan horse of sorts to propel alternate motives. If this is about black lives, why are we singling out LGBT, women, disabled, "black-undocumented folks", "folks with records", etc. Black lives are black lives, right? They're pushing a divisive message behind a statement of unity. Ironically similar to "all lives matter".

Do you represent BLM?
Did you know this was part of their mission statement?
Does this make you feel any different about it?

And for the record, I support homosexual people's struggle, but I do not support deflection and covert operations in the form of something that fronts itself completely different. This is just as much a LGBT movement as it is a black movement.

Why?

I see what your getting at LOL. Yeah CIS black men isn't that an oxymoron?

To me BLM always seemed like a Black Feminist movement in disguise (which wants male members), it's funny because the feminist movement is one of the reasons why the black family has been torn apart

George has dirty hands. Look into things he's done.

He's done good and bad like anyone else, he is a philanthropist and uses his money to push his various agendas.

He's not directly funding BLM to my knowledge but he did hire/fund protestors and agitators during the unrest in Ferguson.

He has a self admitted god complex. Whether you view that as good or bad is up to your perception of his actions.
I did some reading on Soros. My impression is that he exploits the financial market during fragile/uncertain periods of time for massive profits.

Even going as far as donating money under the guise of philanthropy but with the ulterior motive of influencing the financial markets for him to profit from. Based on that information, I'm guessing the concerns with him supposedly funding BLM is that he is counting on the movement to affect the markets in some way for him to exploit.

His end game is an "open society" without national borders. Why? That's another question.
