The Kid Griffey Jr. wearing the BEST cleats in the Game!

you know what I don't get?

WHERE WAS THIS 15 YEARS AGO, NIKE?!???

Griffey has been my favorite player since 94! I rocked those crazy black and white Diamond Fury cleats on my high school baseball team all 4 years, I had the GRIFFEY IN 96 button. You know what I mean?

But back in those days I just wore sweats to practice because I wasn't gonna buy baseball pants. I wore whatever t shirt I had on at school, I had this random gym bag that basically just mixed all my nasty clothes with all the dirt on my cleats. I wore a cup under my boxers because I wasn't gonna have my pants tear and be bare-@%!'d in front of everything.

I'm sure some of you dudes can relate. So if I had access to a Nike Swingman baseball line when I was a kid? Cleats, pants, shirts, all clean and simple designs, I would have LOVED that. I'd wear the Griffey Swingman shirt under my team jersey! But now I'm old and the only ball I play is recreational softball. 15 years too late for me, Nike! Hopefully the kids now will appreciate them! (Not to mention the compression/sliding short/cup holder boxer briefs you can buy too)

Zombie I agree completely.

I know Griffey has been lobbying Nike to do something like this for years. I guess they saw how popular Griffey still was with the success of his Swingman Remix shoes, cleats and Retros, and decided to finally listen to him

Thank god for the !*$+'s advertising folks. One season after releasing that great Jimmy Rollins spot, they've returned with a good ad featuring Ken Griffey Jr.http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/4305/news and Torii Hunterhttp://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5884/newsracing through one of their sporting good stores. It's a prettyentertaining 30 seconds, even if it'll leave you wondering how tocalculate UZR through the golf ball aisle.

More importantly, itreturns Griffey to the national spotlight when it comes to being apitchman. A number of things — injuries, playing for a losing team,balloonhead ad execs — limited The Kid's commercial exposure during the2000s, but it's a good thing his appeal has again been recognized.Maybe he can turn into a Cal Ripken-like guy after his career.

Inhonor of Griffey's re-emergence between whatever we're watching, here'sa look at a few of the better commercials that he filmed during his heyday. http://

Ken Griffey and Don Mattingly — Nike: We ran this spot on BLS a few months back and it probably ranks as my favorite Griffey commercial. And, hey, look! Bobby Ayala!

* * *

Hit It Here — Nike: Oh, for the days when abaseball home run was the ultimate way to sell your product instead ofsomething to completely distance your product from. Extra points tothis ad for including my favorite Seattle landmark.

* * *

Foul Ball Off A Fastball — Pepsi:This is the only national spot I could remember/fine that featuresGriffey in a Reds uniform. In retrospect, this one would have been muchfunnier/heart-warming had Griffey's foul ball actually hit Sammy Sosa in the dugout.

* * *

Griffey clones — Seatte Mariners tickets: "Diving stop by Griffey, throws over to Griffey."

* * *

Griffey for President — Nike:You know how they say the advancement of our society is first pushed onour playing fields? Twelve years after this campaign, a black man waselected President of the United States in real life. Just saying.

* * *

Griffey for President w/ L'il Penny — Nike:Speaking of other things I miss from the '90s ... (No, not L'il Pennyor Penny Hardaway as an actual good basketball player. Nick Anderson.)

* * *

Ken Griffey Baseball — SNES: Is it just me or did every youth-oriented commercial from that time involve parents getting blasted away like George Wendt in Michael Jackson's Black and White video? I think they shot all of them in the same house, too.

* * *

Ken Griffey Slugfest — N64: I have absolutely no recollection of this game and I can't tell if that's 30 Rock's Scott Adsit in the spot. Also, why do I have the sudden urge to go back to college and play 18 straight hours of Goldeneye?

Whatever, I'm still looking to cop. Anyone who has a D I C K S within a few miles of them, shoot me a PM. It's still not even listed online

Also I have a pair of last season's Swingman Remix Molded in red/black with Nike RED laces that I'm looking to unload. PM me for that.

And so I don't get this whole thread locked up...

Griffey is still on Rawlings, right? He's been playing with Rawlings for as long as I can remember and they still have his PROTB24 listed as Griffey's game-day glove. So this Nike line is just to put his name on it, right? Weird.

Anyway, that reminds me: my favorite company for specific baseball equipment. Feel free to comment or add your own lists
  • cleats - Nike ( I always like the interchangeable ones back when I played, but the Swingman line is my favorite)
  • pullover (short sleeved or long) - Easton
  • glove - Rawlings (but Mizuno is really putting out good stuff, they're a close 2nd)
  • batting gloves - Franklin Adult Pro Classic (seriously if you've been wearing JB or Nike batting gloves, time to trade up)
  • compression/cup/shorts - McDavid. Better made than any of the major brands, better tailoring... just better
  • under shirt - (meaning what I'd wear under the jersey) my favorite is the Nike essential t shirt (or long sleeve). simple, does a great job
  • socks/pants - a toss up between Easton and UnderArmour. Though I haven't worn the Swingman pants yet.

Wow, it looks like they did!  I officially slept on this bag.  Here's to hoping the Swingman stuff ends up on NDC.

Here's an interesting chat I had with a Nike rep via NDC Customer Service chat:

Message.gif
Me: that's for the Air Griffey Max 1?
Message.gif

It's intrasquad game day, and Griffey's making the rules

It's less than two hours before the Mariners' first intrasquad game, and there's a buzz in the clubhouse even for this. Most of it, of course, is coming from Ken Griffey Jr., who walked around chattering nonstop about whatever and whoever came to mind.

To Jason Vargas, the left-hander who'll start one of the squads and probably will face Griffey, who'll bat fourth.

"Vargas! None of that inside bull----!" Griffey shouted. "I want four fastballs, outer half."

Vargas smiled as he walked by, with a "Yeah, right" look on his face.

Griffey next made his way toward manager Don Wakamatsu, urging him to go easy on any daring baserunning the first time out. Wak also gave him a "Yeah, right" look.

Griffey's mouth stopped only when Ichiro Suzuki entered the clubhouse in street clothes that came from a street far different from any around Peoria. There's no way to aptly describe the outfit -- jeans with the cuffs rolled up, multi-colored shoes, backward cap, sunglasses and a jacket that brings back the good old days of disco.

Griffey stung Ichiro only a little over that -- "The socks, you can wear with anything" -- then he turned to a writer and said, "It's still way better than what you're wearing."

And finally, in an effort to make everyone feel involved in today's intrasquad game, pitching coach Rick Adair had a special assignment for Felix Hernandez and Erik Bedard. Actually, he hung special jerseys in their lockers, making it clear what their assignments would be.

A white cardboard square was taped to the back of each jersey with "BB" scrawled in blue ink.

"Hey," Adair said, "we need batboys."

Zombie,

Can you please post pics of the molded Swingman Lows when you get them? The pics on site are hard to see the detail.

Thanks

I'm assuming if Nike were to use emerald on a shoe, it would be "radient emerald", similar to the emerald used on a pair of 90s that released last year.

The color code for that shoe was 015.
Regardless I'd take a "radient emerald" AGM1 over a Metallic Platinum/Black.
However, I'd still like to see how it's going to look like.

EDIT:
I spoke with another CS worker today and he confirmed that a 003 will release in June.
Unfortunately, he also said that it will be the last colorway to release.
IF an emerald colorway were to release, it's looking like it'll have to be a quickstrike.

I'll post pics later on.
