cosigning man above, but whether she was pretty or not, its senseless loss of life and should've never happened to anyone jogging there.

When I visited NYC with an old gf, we stayed with her fam in Howard Beach. Seemed like a nice decent place.

Sucks that ish like this happens. people (criminals) seem to only care about their wants/desires, never thinking about the person they are violating. sad.

A lot of people run while listening to music. For all we know someone quiet could've just sneaked up on her while she was resting for a few seconds.

Yeah, she could have been blindsided. It's easier said than done in terms of being aware of your surroundings mid-run when you are in a focused state, but it's still necessary. No matter the hour :smh: .

It's the weeds. It's never really populated unless teenagers are doing drugs or drinking.

Neighbors say the 10-foot-high growths along the trails allowed predators to lie in wait and partiers to drink and do drugs without fear.

Went to high school with a bunch of people from there. That's how they spent their weekends. Surprised none of them have Lyme disease.
 
I didn't even know those marshes were there. Crazy to think of. 7pm really is very bright this time of year. To do something like that in broad daylight the way it happened. I really hope they catch this son of a *****.:smh:
 
I hope whomever did it left some good evidence on the body. They need to get that dude off the street

I just read that the police are questioning her ex-boyfreinds....

It's obvious due diligence on their part, but I do also wonder about other crimes of this nature happening around this area. Is there a pattern, or was this random?

For those who dont know NYC, Howard Beach is on the edge/outskirts of Queens and is a predominately old school Italian neighborhood that is notorious for being extremely racist. It's one of those neighborhoods you only really go to if you have to do something there.

A black man was killed there back in the 80's after being chased by a group of men and getting hit on the highway after his car broke down on Cross Bay Blvd (main street in Howard Beach)

Hence when Chris Rock went there to ask people to sign up for Tupac Shakur Blvd, it was bizarre

I hope justice is served to the person/people who did this.

She was gorgeous, man.

I used to be heavy into running and whenever this topic came up on the running forum I used frequent all the women said they dealt with honking and cat-calling every time they ran in public. Mind you, some of these women were in their 40's and 50's with sun damaged skin and bad haircuts so you can imagine the attention a younger attractive woman would receive. That's not to say honking at runners is a monstrous act but from the woman's end it's definitely not a comforting experience. Some men just be creepy as **** when they see a woman with 2 legs who is minding her own business.
 
Wow. That certainly doesn't look like the scenery to go for a solo run in as a woman.

Police investigating the murder of a 30-year-old jogger in Howard Beach found a used condom and wrapper discarded near the desolate path where the woman’s body was found, sources said.

The potential evidence was discovered late Wednesday at the entrance to the dirt path near 159th Avenue and 78th Street.

Investigators are also interviewing several known sex offenders who live in the area as well as homeless vagrants who live in the park.

Growing up in NYC during the 90's you'd hear all sorts of nonsense coming out from Howard Beach. I've been to HB a handful of times in my life (purposely), and I've NEVER felt comfortable being there. You can immediately feel the tension the second you step foot if you're a man of color.

I remember reading in the news how these two black kids got beat to death back in the 90's in Howard Beach. They were going to meet up with some girls I think and ended up getting jumped by these white kids.

That's still broad day light, man. How the hell can this happen and no one be around to see it?

I wouldn't really make much off finding a used condom around that area. If what some people in here are saying is true, it could probably just be from some kids who used it not too long ago.
 
Howard Beach is not hood at all. My old gym was the Gold's on Crossbay Blvd...which is probably one of the worst gyms I've ever used.

The jogger slain while running alone through a Queens park was brutally beaten and raped before she was strangled by her now fugitive killer, police sources said Thursday.

“Her teeth were broken,” a high-ranking police source told the Daily News about Karina Vetrano, 30, the brainy and beautiful victim of the savage Tuesday night attack. “She was black and blue.”

At this point, police believe a stranger was responsible for the rape and homicide, the source told The News. There were still no arrests made in the high-profile crime.

Karina Vetrano broke up with her boyfriend just two days before her death in a desolate stretch of Spring Creek Park, only a short distance from her Howard Beach home.

But wow, my ex lived in queens and I never heard of Howard Beach before. Had no idea they're were racist parts like that in NYC in 2016 anymore until this thread smh
