Ex cop saying that it's better to let cops search you initially because if you deny then they will think you have something to hide and will bring the dogs and do a deep search whereas if you let them search initially they'll probably do a quick search.

On the flip side...

If you don't consent then whatever they find as a result of an unlawful search can potentially be thrown out.

Most people will say "if you have nothing to hide, why not" but a lot of people may have things they don't know are contraband like knives or fireworks or don't know what previous owners or people who have borrowed the car may have left in there.

And obviously, if you smoke or whatever and have some on you from just copping, there's the potential of them finding that.

So what say you, NT? Do you consent to searches?

EDIT: Include your race with your response.

Former BLaw professor always stressed the "unknown" option of refusing to answering questions, search consents, etc. I wouldn't give consent though. I shouldn't have any illegal items so it'd be a waste of their time/efforts.

However...If a cop asks you to roll down your back windows, are you required to comply? I'll share the story later

Man they gona do what they want anyways

Im a bald headed tatted up dude, they always treat me like a suspect anyways. 50% of the time my whip has been searched has been an illegal search.

Yeah, if you aint ridin dirty and they ask to search, you always tell em NOPE!

But guess what? They get pissed and start lookin for a reason. They can see a swisher sweet wrapper and say they thought it was a blunt, or paraphernalia.

And let someone ridin wit you have a felony, they bringin the dogs too!

Yall can try that youtube **** if you want to, im just gona stay polite on some yes sir no sir, so i can go about my day.

Cuz if not, they arent just gona say ok sir heres a warning have a good day.

To be honest, I'll just let them do their thing and go about my day, I got better ways to spend my time then antogonizing cops, flexing rights that they may or may not chose to respect....a younger knucklehead me, would probably chose to put up a fight tho...lol

I keep nothing in my car except some wet wipes and hand sanitizer. I would still refuse don't trust them.

Politely say no. Just never know whats truly in there when you have friends riding with you. Imagine one slip up would make it very difficult to fight in court.

Na they aint searching ****

I have hand sanitizer, 2 spare tires, pre workouts, Nike bags, and a gallon of water

Knowing them they'd prolly think my pre workout was coke or some ****

Hell NO!!

Not that I have anything to hide, but i'm not gonna let some cop search me and treat me as if I did something wrong. Otherwise what's the point of having rights.

I'm a 30 year old black male btw

So much fail in this post.

I don't let them search me. I'm white so I can get more ballsy without reprecussions. "My dad is a Jewish lawyer and he knows all the higher ups in your department and within your union" has actually worked for me a few times.

Hell naw.
Damn shame that we are so conditioned that we don't force the police follow the same law/constitution that they are supposedly enforcing. Then when the officer decides to search your car anyway, there's no one to complain to that your rights were violated. Majority will jusy say... "if you had nothing to hide, why didn't you just let them search?" Thats not the ******* point smh

Never consent to searches or voluntary questioning without an attorney present.

Have been held for hours while cops "waited for the K9 unit." Meh.

I think denying the search is more so about invalidating any evidence they may find more so than stopping the search.

It's tricky. On one hand if you have nothing to hide, why not. But on the other hand

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...r-mistakes-krispy-kreme-donut-glaze-for-meth/

This guy let the cops search his car and they mistakes donut glaze for meth. Then they did a drug test and it came back as positive and he was arrested.

Had a cop try and say some seeds from the top of an Arbys sandwich were pot seeds.

I have always let them search but i feel like i shouldnt. Just seems easier to get it over with if your clean although you risk them planting something.
