OFFICIAL 2016 RIO SUMMER OLYMPICS THREAD (Rio is a wrap; See you in Tokyo in 2020 (or, more likely,i

For that bold - messi/ronaldo debate, there is a big difference between being recognizable and having fans that will follow you on IG and like your FB picture.

If you show a picture or name only the name. I think bolt is up there with any athlete in the world.

Soccer is more global but bunch of people in asia probably don't know who is messi / ronaldo but know bolt, lebby and kobe.

And i would bet that all the people in europe / africa and south america that know messi and ronaldo ALSO know who bolt is.

Good debate.

After reading stories about De Grasse, this guy is truly amazing. The way he became a sprinter is unbelievable

Do your thing De Grasse :pimp:

He's got same of my size but I am fatter than him

Dude started running 4 years ago only.

First race he showed up with basketball shoes and basketball shorts and WASHED everybody

He's the future :pimp:

I honestly think Michael Jordan is number 1 in terms of global recognition.

You don't need to like basketball at all to know who he is.

These announcers on the online stream keep saying bolt is the most famous athlete on the planet. What do you guys think? I feel like Cristiano Ronaldo has to be #1. They said though that the list is Pele, Bolt, and Ali (I don't know why they are including ali since he has passed away though). They say that bolt is the most recognizable and most famous. Thoughts?
Bolt is a bigger name for about a month every four years. The other 47 months, Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi are definitely way bigger.

Didn't know los angeles is putting in a bid for the 2024 games. I will defintely try to get out there for a few days if it happens.

I really hate the notion that Bolt doesn't go all out and eases up every time he races. That's just an insult to him and all the competition. The man has legit lost at meets before you know  :smh:

Also just watched his 100m from Beijing again. I can his name being bigger than Messi's and Ronaldo. Bolt ran in a fully packed stadium in the most populous country in the world. With the way he won too; banging on his chest 20 meters out and breaking a world record. Even with Asia's growing soccer scene, Bolt's name is probably more recognizable than Messi's or Ronaldo's in Asia at least.

But he does ease up at the end of his races, though.. Last night's 200 was the first time I can remember him "running through the tape". His face showed his effort throughout the entire race from start to finish. He is and has been toying with people. The distance he put between himself and the field is what he is capable of and what each of his races should be like.

Hard to compare an athlete most only see compete 2 weeks every 4 years to soccer stars that we hear about all the time and see on tv.

This is also a big factor. I hear Messi and Ronaldo's name all the time even though I couldn't point them out if I were to see them in person

There was a dude I went to HS with that came straight from Kenya running cross country in Timbs with the laces untied. Dude was fast as **** and I never knew how his shoes never came off like that

LA been trying hard for a while

Yep. And based on what we hear from local media, it's looking pretty good. Hope we get it. I was only 7 at the time, but remember the 84 games in LA being a good time in the city. I think we're in an even better position to pull it off 40 years later.

I don't really watch the Olympics but I knew Dalilah Muhammad's older sister back in the day. Cheered loudly when she won the Gold in the 400m hurdle last night. Queens!

Quick question, has Jordan Burroughs wrestled yet this morning?

And if not does anyone know what time?

Thanks.

Indeed, it made me a fan of De Grasse

Not only basketball shorts/sneakers. He didn't use starting blocks. He didn't know how to use it so he just stood and raced. What a beast :x

Bet his mother thanked De Grasse's school for shutting down basketball program plus De Grasse's friend for taking him to his track and field something that she tried to get her son involved with track and field for years

That's awesome

You should watch the Olympics sometime. You won't regret it

The movement in walk racing is so weird. Looks like they're racing to the bathroom and trying not to crap their pants.

That clown really said that it was "traumatic" . Traumatic that he got caught...

If folks thought that LA traffic was already bad, just wait for the Olympics there  :x

He's probably never had an altercation with armed guys before. If i'm wasted drunk i'd be thinking it's not a good situation.

This whole story is BS and they're still trying to cover up for something else. The Brazillian press didn't put this story out there. Lochte did. If he hadn't reported the robbery...this wouldn't be a story. If I'm a high profile athlete and I'm out doing some clown ****, and all i had to do was pay a few hundred bucks to get away with it...why would I go cook up a lie about a robbery? Why not just keep silent about this?

One thing I do know about Ryan is based off the initial lie he more than likely has never been robbed before or known anyone that has
