Bill Bob Thorton’s irreverent Christmas comedy Bad Santa is on its way to becoming a cult classic. Released on November 21st, 2003, the film is finally getting a sequel, with Thornton reprising his Willie T. Stokes, the alcoholic sex addict who uses the best time of the year to rob malls at night while performing (badly) as Santa during the day.

According to Deadline, Bad Santa 2 finally has a release date set for November 23rd, 2016, just in time for Christmas. Thornton confirmed in 2009 that a sequel was in the making, having a tentative Christmas 2011 release. The sequel had at the time been scheduled for December 2013 – but, obviously, that never happened.

In addition to Thornton, Tony Cox and Brett Kelly return to the original roles, with Kathy Bates joining the cast as Willie’s mother. Filming for the new Broad Green Pictures and Miramax production will start in Montreal next month, with Mark Waters directing. The first Bad Santa did rather well at the box office, grossing over $136 million worldwide.

Miramax and Broad Green Pictures have announced today that “Mad Men” star Christina Hendricks will join the Bad Santa 2 cast as a new character named Diane, who runs a charitable organization and, naturally, becomes the love interest to Billy Bob Thornton’s mall-Santa scoundrel, Willie Soke.

they need to switch how fast they reboot movies with how fast they make sequels
How this gonna get the Dumb&Dumber, Anchorman, Bad Boys treatment??? Only sequels coming out like they should are CBMs

How do you even know? Anchorman 2 was pretty good IMO

Most of the originals have dated humor that they don't update or write better(Anchorman2 is an exception because that comedy is one of a kind and can be used 100 years from now)
It would just be nice if we saw some comedy sequels every other year instead 5-10 years down the line, especially since they aren't really CGI heavy. BBT is GOLD in the original! Why Wait??

They gonna make a Superbad 2 in 10 years where Mclovin's son does the same thing his dad did in the orginal and meets 2 cops that turn the sirens on at every red light SMH

Didn't even know they had a sequel. :nerd: one of my favorite movies.

My go to for "Netflix & Chill".
