People keep telling me that going in the military with a degree is sweet. What are the pros and cons of that? Also, I heard they will pay for your student loans, is that true?

I think you can be an officer for starters. Someone correct me if im wrong.

You really gonna try to sign up and say "this dude on NT said..." Go talk to a recruiter and someone currently on active duty.

You can become an officer.

I have a friend who just became a Major...

She'll be a General one day

You can become an officer.

Depending on what you majored in it's still way better to go corporate.

And those recruiters are annoying as hell. Do not give them your number.

I eventually had to block the number of the recruitment office that would not stop contacting me.

if you go Army OCS, you are placed in an MOS that is at the NEEDS OF THE ARMY...that means your specialties/knowledge/degrees/experiences don't mean **** to them upon commissioning, and your job will be where there are open billets, if you are fine with that, go for it...

my roommate from went college through army OCS, and ended up as military police in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas...he didn't really care what MOS he ended up with b/c he was an adjunct professor finishing up his Phd, but no universities where offering up full time teaching positions...

Dont talk to a recruiter until you are ready to enlist, even in the army they are considered slime.

If you want to be enlisted you will start off as an e-4/specialist.

Since you have a degree you can go to Officer Canidate School where you will train to be an officer, but your MOS will be picked for you.

Usually officers are classified under Alpha for whatever series they are. For example if you are a 12A you will be placed in an engineer unit, any engineer unit. Could be construction, could be combat.

Yes, they do have student loan forgiveness, your recruiter should help you with that. Although I do not remember the amount.

If you're looking to make the most money I would recommend being enlisted first and after a year of your contract apply for the green to gold program. If your four year degree can be furthered, this program will pay for you to go to back to school, while completing ROTC at that particular school. Once graduated from school and upon completion of all ROTC training, you will be commissioned.

I said more money because going from enlisted to officer through that program allows you to get half of your enlisted pay, plus your officer pay. Although this only goes up to O-3.

Had a first LT in my company who was a an e-7 before he went green to gold and that dude was paid extremely well.

Bottom line, do some research, there is plenty of information and stories on the web. And when the time is right for you and you have made a decision speak to a recruiter, but don't let them BS you. If you have any questions at that point my PM is always open.

Edit: another benefit from green to gold program is you can either choose a new MOS, or stay in the field you were as an enlisted soldier.

I'll go stay to OCS OP if you're not going to get your Master or MBA.

You could sign up for ROTC get your masters then commission afterwards.

AIR FORCE is the way to go ...but my cousin is in the army with a degree, he's an officer ...he makes some money but he hates having to live in the most boring/random places every couple years

You get to help this pos country kill people that you don't personally know, but get to feel as if your hands are clean because in most cases you didn't pull the trigger... You just "supported" or assisted the murderers.

Take it from me go Air Force!! I am in the Georgia Army National Guard and it's straight ******** but then it has it's perks.

I personally am not down to fight wars and potentially die because some old white people in Washington told me to
All I hear is a bunch of yip yap from sideline chatties.
