The Get Down: Netflix Original

The show was good

Back in those days a lot of people were into kung fu movies that the b boys started taking parts of the way the fighters moved into dancing. Remember RZA was into Kung fu too.

Another thing was voguing was popular at the time too it just was not out there like that in the Bronx. I've watched some documentary about it but i forgot the name of it.

The disco music and the battles got me hyped!

The mansion they were practicing at in the end is the andrew freemen complex in the concourse two blocks away from where i live. I need to check it out, i always thought that place was for old people.

Great show. The only thing I find cringeworthy are the modern day opening sequences with Nas rapping. It seems so predictable and stereotypical of a rap concert. Plus we all know cats that old aren't pulling in crowds like that.

edit: just remembered the opening sequences take place in the 90's. Still corny to me.
I have to agree, those scenes are hard to watch.

SHows great! Finished it a week ago. Some parts are badly edited to me though and those scenes don't hold the impact I felt they would if they were intercut with a musical performance.

Can't wait for Part 2 though

Son that church was filmed right on Burnside and Jerome....lmaoooooo show made me feel proud of my **** borough....I was born in the 80's but I still remember a time when the BX was still SLUMS.

Same here...after my family moved to East Harlem I still would stop by my grandmothers house out there and it was crazy how many half standing/burned down/pile of rubble buildings. The fact that I even remember how it looked and felt is crazy.

Owners were hiring people to burn down their buildings so they could collect the insurance and move on. Without all that poverty, I don't think the culture explodes the way it did.

I grew up on Belmont ave and east Tremont, 2 blocks from 179th to 181st one side was allll rubles, looked like someone dropped a bomb there...lol it was cool because in the winter time there was a part that was like a crater and when it snowed you can actually sled into it

Man the Bronx I grew up was kind of cool in hindsight...lol

Enjoying it so far. I like the whole 70's vibe the same way Stranger Things gives off an 80's one.

I must say... i CANNOT believe i slept on this series.

watched the first episode last night and my wife and i are HOOKED.

does the season get better??

Here's hoping there's a season 2. haven't read the thread, don't want to read any spoilers

It does. The first episode was all over the place for me. But from second episode moving forward its incredible.

i liked how they gave the history/rise of hip hop some justice, like it didn't just come out of nowhere...

i think it's awesome how Nas is executive producer....

can't wait for season 2! too bad it's in 2017....

I started watching again. Anyone peep Zeke's voice? Its like he's going through puberty while filming.

He's pressed over Mylene but the only time it seems like she MIGHT like him is when he's doing something for her.

all 3 of them ladies could get it.

liked the show a lot. Koch bout to go hard on them kids tho

Yep and uses sex to try to keep him from pursuing his own dreams. Wouldn't be surprised if she tries trapping him once his career starts taking off.

Just finished watching last night. Man, this show was so dope!! I have not one flaw with this show. The casting was on point ( even liked Jaden Smith in this supporting role ), the music was on point, and the setting was on point. We truly are in the second golden age of television. Because who would have ever conceived years ago that a show like this would exist

And Mylene.....

Shaolins the DJ that we call conductor cause Shaolin Fantastics a bad mother *record scratch* I love the series. How they did the title and name of each episode, Nas rapping at the beginning (he needs to release those), the story, and characters (Shaolin is my favorite).
