Oral Hygiene Vol. Taking care of your teeth

I have pretty bad gum recession. Here's what my dentist recommends:
Did it continue to get worse after you stopped all your bad habits? Once you started your routine did the gum disease get cured?
This is the bad part about gum recession -- you can't get it back.

I brushed too hard, flossed until my gums bled, etc. Now I'm recovering them, but the damage is done. It's all about maintenance now and making sure my gums are healthy, don't bleed, etc.

It definitely sucks because I can't drink/eat ice cold stuff, etc.
Damn is it that bad? I heard you can get veneers to covers them up.

It didn't get worse though right, once you stopped, the receding stopped?

^ Receding has stopped, but ya boy is not about that veneer BS.

You only get one set of teeth so you best take care of them from the get go.

My dentist told me that those who've had braces seem to be more at risk to gum recession

For those with it, try using Sensodyne toothpaste which is good for those areas that are sensitive to liquids or hot/cold

Damn that's crazy. So you flossed and brushed like you should have, but you just went too hard at it and that messed you up.

I gotta get into the habit of flossing and brushing after every meal but overbrushing seems like it can happen and mess up your tooth enamel.

I'm terrified of going to the dentist...

Haven't been in years & neglected my teeth for a long time due to depression :smh:

Just knowing the general facts I've read about it, I can tell I have gum recession |I

Just made an appointment for tomorrow, though...

It's time I manned up & tackled this head on.

I'm about to cop one of those electric toothbrushes that tell you when you're putting on too much pressure.

Also just read that a lot of the teeth and gum issues start to show up when you're between ages 20-30. That's probably the main demo of NT, so if you've gotten away with poor dental habits so far, don't take it for granted and start taking care of your teeth before those issues start popping up. See a dentist regularly.

Yeah, I brushed + flossed too hard.

When you're brushing, you should be brushing sideways-down (not up into your gums). When you're flossing, you should be flossing in between your teeth (not straight into the gums).

Also forgot to add --

EVERYONE SHOULD COP AN ELECTRONIC TOOTHBRUSH THAT HAS SOFT BRISTLE BRUSHES

These electric toothbrushes really better then the regular kind tho? I feel like the regular one is more effective but ive never tried electric.

Electronic toothbrushes were significantly better in every study that I've read.

Also between the electronic brushes, some studies were done comparing Oral B and the Sonicaire and Oral B was better due to the small round brush head being more effective.

Use an electric toothbrush for one month and then try going back to a regular brush. It feels like brushing with your finger. I switched it up 5 years ago and never looked back.

Someone recommend a good electric brush. I want all the bells & whistles will pay whatever. Gum is receeding on one side think it's because of my tooth brush. I have to use soft & extra soft brushes bc ironically the soft is too hard, but the extra soft doesn't make them feel clean enough :smh:

Just read that periodontitis can't be cured. It's the stage after gingivitis.

If you have gingivitis now, that can be cured but if it progresses then you're stuck with it for life. If there's blood when you brush or floss, there's a high chance you have gingivitis. Set up an appointment asap.
