Official 2017 Knicks Offseason thread, Phil Jackson gone

We have seen zero flashes from KP to show us that he can be a #1 option.

That clippers trade would set us back 10 years. We need a top 5 pick this year. Not in 2023 for some 8th grader. Next years draft is beyond weak too.

i've been saying that :rolleyes

he has the talent and the potential, but he has yet to live up to it. he's still timid most of the time and lately he's been shooting poorly. NY will eat him alive when Melo is gone.

Sixers, Cavs (after Bron), Kings, Orlando, Nuggets etc etc are teams who continue to rely on the draft and fail seemingly consistently. A nice mix is needed but selling off AS caliber players for salary dumps and future picks will fail much more than succeed

Now due to Embiid looking like he will be a great player people are saying look at hinkie's plan as if the Sixers aren't still a horrible team. People keep talking about their "future" being so bright but as of this day the Knicks "future" isn't that much different. As both Teams won't be shaping themselves up to do much for a few years anyway. The Knicks just have a better chance to compete over the next few years with Melo and still develop young talent.

All these morons fail to realize that.

Rose has value. There's gonna be a team looking to make a push who would want to dump salary for him or look to add a playoff piece.
Sorry but Rose has NO value.  Who does he make better?
Himself.

Any team drafting Rose knows what they're getting. His max contract mvpmdays are gone but he's an all-star level player. He just doesn't make anybody better much.

At this point he's an undersized shooting guard. More A.I. than JKidd and let's face it Rose barely JKidd at all in his career/prime.

I'm gonna laugh when KP is labeled a loser you can't build around
Me too. I can already see it starting.

Its coming full circle though. I still remember dudes claiming they weren't Knicks fans anymore cuz Phil drafted KP

I'm all for a real rebuild, but not under Phil. For something that takes creativity, flexibility and efficiency, I've seen none. I mean for years he tried to force an outdated playing style on us even though he isn't the coach.
We're never gonna seriously rebuild under Dolan. We never tried to rebuild under Phil. New regimes bring in a new system all the time. Its more on Phil that he didn't bring in the players to execute it than any criticism on the triangle.

To me all that is a bunch of excuses by players that didn't we t to put in the work and weren't good enough to begin with. Lakers weren't blaming the triangle when they lost under Phil.

...and how are you getting a top 5 pick this year?

how we gonna see if KP can be a number one option when rose and melo play hero ball all game

we can get into top 5 range if this melo trade gets done sooner than later. and I'm assuming we'll trade Rose/Lee/O'Quinn by the deadline as well

On "NBA Crossover" on CBS Sports this week, former Pistons star and NBA analyst Rip Hamilton had some words of advice for Jackson:

"If Phil's watching this," Hamilton said, "Phil, [what] you have to do is stop this. The first thing you have to do is make Carmelo Anthony your partner. And I don't think Phil's done a good job of that. I think this is his scapegoat, I think he's trying to put it all on Carmelo Anthony right now. I think Phil has to make him his partner and have him in it with him for the long haul."

Rip was always a real one :smokin

Right now, as is, KP is not a number one player material. He can't effectively iso on a consistent basis. Not even on a switch with a much smaller player on him.

you really went out on a limb with that one.

of course he's not number one player material right now. it's his second season.

his development has been stymied by the powers that be, plus he's had an injury

phil jackson is on his third reconstruction of the team. one would think two chances were enough. i feel he's always wanted melo out because of his contract and has seen him as an impairment to getting the team he wants. him and his staff can pick decent young players, but that's where it stops. his failure to develop the young talent he's acquired by interfering with the coach's job is worthy of dismissal

maybe i'm not aware of what's been going on in the last two days, but carmelo still hasn't agreed to being traded yet there's a two way deal being set up to trade him. that's so foul

It is troubling that he can't punish teams for putting smaller players on him on a regular basis. They do not hesitate to switch on any KP pick and roll.
