Official 2017 Knicks Offseason thread, Phil Jackson gone

We played the 2nd half vs Houston so well. There was no iso ball. No ball stopping. No personal battles vs your man who's lighting you up. No pull up 3's on a 3 on 1 break. Just simple ball movement.

I've caped for Melo countless times but I feel like it'd be best for both parties to move on from each other.

we're up to the 13th pick in the draft w/tonight's loss

I personally stopped watching a bunch of games ago. Specifically Phoenix. Felt our team peaked and that was that lol. When I saw a few minutes of us getting sliced and diced on Christmas it confirmed it for me.

Something is missing with this team. It's always felt like we've been stuck in the Stone Age while the rest of the L is in the future.

Also never liked that when Lance and Nor came back we stopped playing with lineups that worked well together.

The writing is pretty much on the wall at this point. $18mil to be a leader of nothing Noah isn't gunna right the ship. We have no real vets, and mostly prima donnas that have accepted mediocrity for their careers. We don't have the willpower to get back up from these knockdowns.

Our priority is KP, and even if it were short-sighted I didn't think an "all-in" move was the worst thing for his and the franchise's future. At best, there was a lot he could have learned about the game, winning, and the playoffs. But when vets are canning it in, it's even more toxic than tanking.

At this point if things continue going downhill the franchise needs to just tell Melo we don't give a F about your NTC, you're *** isn't suiting up here anymore. Time to change directions. You wanna play and not be humiliated? Look for a new team. Whether it's before the deadline or this summer.

And it's not that I'm placing all the blame on Melo, but if we're gunna be losers might as well not half *** it and get in mediocrity purgatory.

I'm not scapegoating just saying better to get a top 5 pick than be stuck in purgatory with Melo.

I was cool with us being a playoff team and not tanking. But we can see where this season is going.

As good as KP is he lacks aggressiveness. I don't think he's 1st option yet. Let him develop a little before we throw the whole franchise on his back, especially considering how Knicks fans treat their star players. Y'all be running him outta here in 5 years.

And it's a way to possibly deal with Carmelo's NTC, which has been the block to us being allowed to have a direction to go with. It wasn't a viable option before and would have been a PR and even player relations nightmare. But I think you can get away with it now since we tried going all in and its most likely going to be a fail.

Yea to be honest I'd rather anything that extreme happen in the offseason don't think it would be the right move to do mid season. For both KP and to avoid a mid season circus.

But if we #TradeMelo who's gonna be the scapegoat?

You can call him a "scapegoat" but plenty of people pointed out the issues with Melo (and the trade more importantly) as soon as it happened.

Funny enough I am watching the Denver GSW game and even though things haven't worked out for them since Maasai left, Gallinari and Wilson Chandler would still be productive additions to the Knicks. Hell, Mozgov played a part in winning a chip.

Don't mean for this season I mean to just have a clear plan and direction though since clearly this foundation is not worth building on and adding to.

The trade that brought him here? Y'all need to let that one go for real. Chandler and Gallo have spent way more time injured this past few seasons than anything.

I'm almost 100% positive he'd waive his no trade clause if moved to the Clippers. He still has value in this league if on the right team.

I could get behind an offseason move if there's one to be made.

I've been saying that for the longest time. The problem with the Knicks is their fan base. They wanna win NOW or rebuild NOW. Winning doesn't happen the first year with a new coach, unless you happen to inherit the likes of Kyrie/LeBron or the splash bros.

Let's say Melo gets traded and KP plateaus, then what? What if we get a top 5 pick and they end up being Kwame Brown? Then we're gonna be in the lottery every year. BUT Knicks fans can't REALLY be patient enough to be *** for a while and get lucky like the Warriors. Why? Bc the team is in New York. The most famous basketball arena in the world. Whomever the owner/GM is cannot afford to keep playing the lottery. People come to see the Knicks play and they pay a lot. The organization WILL ALWAYS have a name to put on a jersey. Look at what happened with Steve Francis, TMac, Stephon, and now Melo. Free agency and a lucky draft pick is the ONLY way this organization can ever build a contender.

I also know for a fact that over the past 10-15 years we've had a few way worse teams than this one so I'm not really on the ledge right now. Might as well just let the season play out instead losing sleep over hypotheticals. Nobody complained about the Melo trade when we won 54 games lol

They don't hear you tho…

Yeah, I agree. But as assets they were used terribly and misuse of assets has been the Knicks' biggest problem.

I'm not tryna cape for Melo, but he took the nugs to the playoffs every season with the likes of Billups, Nene, Camby, KMart, and JR smith. Other than the 12-13 season, we can't really say he's had the same caliber of team since. You forget that Caldo and Felton have been our PGs for the last 4-5 years.

"With the likes of"? Those were really good players at that time.... and he's been playing in the East since.

Most importantly the Knicks had no talent because that trade was made instead of just waiting and signing him as a FA... which he is complicit in btw

The way I look at it is it wasn't the best decision but we're so far removed from it. You're 100% right about assets and the Knicks.
