Official 2017 Knicks Offseason thread, Phil Jackson gone

Well we're not gonna magically get better defensively. I bet you these bums are gonna come out playing zone the next game.

It's time to move Melo. Get the most you can for him and move the **** on.

It's funny to see everyone in here in panic mode echoing statements that I was making before the season started.

Melo is one of the best, mode tradeable assets in the league and has a lot of value to certain teams.

Bottoming out the rest of the season to get a top 10 guy and assets for Melo remains the smart move that we'll never make.

for the record, i dont want chris paul.

ive been super down about this team but im not 100% ready to give up on playoff hopes. thats all i wanted this year. some meaningful games for KP.

the solution isnt yet clear...but what we need to do next game is just come out and play HARD. thats all i can ask. contest everything, communicate, make them work on defense (and i dont mean back down one player), and play as a team !

Which team is realistically taking Melo and his contract?

Melo's contract isn't that horrible under the new CBA. The real question is who whould he wave his no-trade clause for.

Still think Boston would consider rolling the dice on him. Him at the 4 next to Horford would look good at least. We could probably finesse Jaylen Brown back which would be worth it.

Houston would be another place he could possbily fit except now they have D'antoni and Melo and him obviously don't have a great relationship.

Detroit is sort of a win now team that could possibly be a decent fit. Melo for Tobias Harris + draft pick pretty much works.

We also have zero chance at Chris Paul and that doesn't even make sense at this point so that conversation can end.

We've given up 100 or more points in all but 5 games(could be a game off). Trading Melo will NOT fix that. Y'all keep posting up yall personal agendas which is amusing, but it won't fix the fact that this team is LOUSY on defense. Disgraceful.

the only realistic trade that benefits all parties is melo for blake. the clips need a scorer and we need a big to start next to KP. noah needs to be gone by any means, and billy and kyle will be the back ups.

the funny part about this is that watch melo go off for 3 straight efficient games scoring 25+ and you won't see "trade melo" for a few dozen pages :smh: melo isn't single handedly giving up 100 points per game.

He's been pretty bad, but that's not that only person that's the problem. This team defense is really bad. Jodie Meeks looked like Kobe Meeks.

naw, i don't think he's gonna waive it either. idk if he'll even let his contract expire before signing an extension TBH. he just needs to change his mindset and not go down the same path as AI. he can still be a good serviceable player in this league, and for this team, but he needs to redefine his role. i feel bad for him though, bc i know he wants to still play like he's 28, but his body just can't do it anymore. same with noah. except melo still contributes much more than noah. i cringe every time he gets the ball.

I agree w/ all of this.

melo has played bad this year theres no denying that... but the team in general doesnt play any defense play with any heart or effort... its really disturbing...

Why is it pointing out Melo's lazy play hate? We can't just call it how it is? The man ain't even trying out there, at least not in a positive way. Trading Melo won't be the end all but it's a step in the right direction. There's no point in continuing doing something that's not working. He's been here for 7 seasons. It's time to admit the plan failed.

It was either in this thread or In a article but melo for bradly and Crowder would do wonders for this team.

Trading melo for those 2 beefs up the defense by miles and from what melo and lee are avg combined you don't really lose any offense.

I'll actually be fair for once lots of great scoring guys around the league don't play great defense however I think melo catches hell because the game has changed look around the league the game is played more around the perimeter which has also made the league value wing defenders more than ever. You look around and a lot of SFs are checking damn near every position except the 5.

There is no path to contending in the next five years. That's obvious.

So you could either do the smart thing and tank out for the next year or so and get a bunch of young guys around KP or you could try to the dumb thing and surround him with a bunch of overpriced, over-the-hill vets who impeded his development.

Remeber when I said this offseason that our offense should revolved around KP launching as many three's as possible and got ridiculed for it?

Seems like that game plan is going pretty well in Houston. Think it would go pretty well with a 7'2 guy on the perimeter as well.

It's been agreed that Melo has been bad. But the lengths that ppl go to in order to single him out is really odd. That's the hate.

hmmm I think Boston might actually go for something like that, but unfortunately I don't think Melo would want to go there.  Your point about wing defenders is a good one.
