Official 2017 Knicks Offseason thread, Phil Jackson gone

That game last night is a good reminder that Russ' great stats are a little deceptive this year—he's pressing hard for those points.

Melo's had a couple of bad games but overall his commitment to taking a step back has been valuable, hopefully he sticks with that and doesn't demand too much ball dominance down the stretch.

Porzingis scoring has been consistently excellent and efficient, he is blowing away expectations in year 2.  As far as the rebounding, I do think it's a function of him being asked to take a bigger role in the offense (fatigue/energy focus and also spacing).  Plus we all know he should be playing center.  The ability is still there and it's going to come back.

As a non-fan who watches the Knicks closely, I think there are a lot of reasons to be positive about this team.  They're going through some growing pains and Noah is absolutely terrible, but the chemistry is the best it's been in years.  I think about Dallas and the way that Michael Finley slowly stepped back for Dirk to step up and I see a lot of parallels between that and what's going on with Melo/KP.  Surprised and impressed Melo has been as supportive as he has in KP's development.
You know ppl are overreacting if you're coming in here shedding positive light on the team.

^ its just a shame watching rose dominate on the offensive end but the team as a whole would just give up on defense... so his great performance was wasted

There's a rumor that Knicks are not ruling out an extension for Derrick

He's scared of not getting a call and getting his shnip punched cause he has no lift.
It's a damn shame bro, I don't understand this guys thought process. He HAS to be aware that he can't do what he used to every night. He just keeps trying to fight it out hoping he's gonna regain his elite scoring abilities. Super stressful to watch.

Even worse when you know he can do other things to help us win like you said. He a more then capable passer. Above average IMO. He can D up when he wants to. He can communicate on the floor very well when his shot is falling and he's knocking himself in the head, but if he's off forget it... :rolleyes And he's a great rebounder. He should focus on trying to get 10 rebounds a game rather than the 30 points he chases.

He should be just shooting spot up jump shots at this point. The iso is not commanding a double team AT ALL. And that's the problem for Melo. He sees one and one and thinks it's a win for him, when in reality he needs to just give it up and move around without the ball, find open spots and shoot. The iSo should only be called if he has hit like 3 spot ups shots in a row. Real talk. He's a great spot up shooter. I feel like he makes the shot at a higher percentage coming off a pass then off the dribble. Anybody got stats to back this up? :nerd:

We had the game in our hands yesterday man! Too many wasted possessions on Melo going one on one and everyone watching.

I love the stats about Melo and Porzingis being on the floor together and KP shooting a much higher percentage, but im pretty sure that a very small percentage is cause Melo assisted on the play. It's more about the spacing and attention Melo commands more then him setting KP up or anything like that. To me, you can sort of see that KP kind of already knows that if Melo has the ball it's going up. I've seen so many instances this season where KP has been wide open on the cut and Melo ignores it cause he's in a personal battle with his defender. :smh:

Repped. All 100% facts.

Last night I seen KP extremely demonstrative when he was camped in the corner behind the 3pt line visibly calling for the ball while Melo was in his 1on1 battle against Roberson trying to get his pride back. He's literally been putting himself before the team these past couple games and it's been making me sick to my stomach.

Hornacek needs to institute a 4 second rule with Melo or something. In 4 seconds, he needs to do something, whether it's to drive, pass or make a strong move. He can't still be dribbling the shot clock away.

Or maybe Melo should use the 3 dribble rule.

Melo taking on personal battles with scrubs is always painful to watch. It's sad that a HOFer feels the need to put himself down to a role player's level. I never see Lebron putting a personal battle with a scrub over getting a win.

A HOFer who spends the off season beefing with publications to put some respect on his name and gets into battles with scrubs which causes his team to lose. He needs to get it together

Dude is 10 for his last 40. It's time for Horny to start him at PF and KP at center. Hate that we tried to conform to OKC at home when they should've been playing small trying to conform to us.

4 sec rule is legit 5 secs max. I said that a few games ago as well. Not the 4 sec rule part but rather he gotta attack, take a shot, or pass quickly. That 20 game timeline looking like there's progress being made. In the last few losses I don't feel like the Knicks laid down...

it feels good to write responses and speculate about the nature of melos game. 11-42 is unacceptable. straight bafoonery in the NBA.

but allow me to be cynical and depressing.

it's his 14th year in the league. he aint changing his game for nobody.
i have a theory that this man literally just wants to shoot 20 shots in an NBA game, and lives with what comes of it.

I am no melo hater. im critical of him because supposedly youre the leader of the team. we go where you go.
but anyone watching the game last night saw his ISOs were conducive to Nothing. it destroys momentum, rhythm, morale. everything. the worst part is, he said they all felt good coming off his hand. the man is straight up throwing it in our faces that he will shoot any shot he wants.

by the time he realized hey Im washed tonight, it was too late.

when breen, clyde, all the people im watching the game with, old woman asking why hes shooting so much, the dogs barking at the TV, EVERYONE commented that he was being selfish. come on son.

we deserve better than this.

he is an important piece to our team, but this man fails to leave his mark on a game. his presence is an intimidation to noone. son had 1 game where he scored well, and proceeded to shoot 25% the next 96 minutes. unbelievable. i am sorry we have to watch performances like this.

I mean listen I like the Knicks, I always get painted as a hater because of my feelings about Melo.  But I have to give him props for his maturity this season (yeah it took long enough but...)

Also having a young future superstar solves a lot of worries and KP is legit.

Had we not sign Noah we could've went after both Ibaka & G. Hayward next offseason.

We can still afford Hayward though.

I didn't see the game but there is no excuse for Melo to be 4-19. I do not like the flow to his game this season thus far. And if you don't have it goin, pass the damn rock

I'm hoping KP and Rose eventually develop the chemistry rose had with Pau. Seems like the connection came easier with Pau. Maybe it's cuz KP likes different spots. Hopefully they'll figure it out.
