Every time I see a new thread about another jordan being retroed it gets flooded real quick, but when it comes to new joints like Kyrie's or KD's, they get no love. The LBJ and kobe kicks also get love but no where near the jumpman. It's 2016 shouldn't we be moving forward and on to newer things? No hate on jb I love me some new retros for the low low.

I've been asking this question for over a decade.
The retro sneaker phenomen such like Air Jordans, Air Force Ones etc, did not happen before 1999 (OK, Chucks are a big exception).
Before, let's say in 1994, the demand for old models being retroed wasn't high.
In fact the 1994 Chicago AJ1 and 2 even sat on the shelves and some were put on sale for 20 bucks!

Now the majority of sneaker wearers are mostly sticking with models from the 1980s or 1990s.
It is somewhat weird that the majority is so conservative when it comes to wearing shoes.

Imagine we would never evolve to wear other kicks than Chucks or Superstars...how boring would that be?

I've been always purchasing the new stuff like the Foamposite One when they were released in 1997 or
the Air Jordans 16 - 31 and yes I mostly wear them for casual as I can only play basketball once a week if possible.

A bag part of that issue was that, in the 90s, it really was the "golden age" of basketball sneakers. Think about how many classic models came out Air Jordans, Foams, Barkleys, Shaqnosis, Pippens, etc. etc. during such a short amount of time that players were actually wearing and stand up, in terms of design, even today. The 2000s, on the other hand, simply don't have as mang classic models. But maybe this will change and people will start wearing Adidas T-Macs and Nike Shox VCs or something again haha

It's because newer basketball models are horrible for casual wear. Most people are buying sneakers for the gym and to wear casually. That's why people have moved on to shoes like Ultra Boosts, Roshes, and NMDs. They look better for casual wear. LeBrons and KDs just don't look that good with a pair of jeans.

this is completely untrue...

uptowns were for retroed in 1993 and been available in certain places in da northeast for as long as i can remember.

hell da NYC air force I's are a mid 90's creation.

retroes back then weren't even called retros...they were just considered restocking kicks that sold well...

they made air max 95's well into 1999...4 years after their initial introduction.

white on White air force's have been an institution since da mid 90's as well...

to put a cherry on top, da first hybrid ever were da air force mid...those never existed in 82-83'

unless they are mad comfy and stylish i wont by newer models but retros are all about nostalgia and bein a kid and watching MJ do his thing.

IDK, i'm 23 and was raised on Jordans. Now that I make good money, I can get all the ones I didn't have as a kid. Jordans were my introduction to sneakers and will always be my #1.

I think it has to do with many factors.

JORDAN IS GOAT, and as such, his shoes are the standard for the some these kids. I think even more with KIDS that never saw him play. They see the youtube videos and the grown ups talk about him, along with your typical trash rappers nowadays rocking them, and boom you got the secret right there.

90s were the golden age of shoes. They could continue to retro these kicks out and they will always do well. Maybe not sell out like lets say the black/red 1, but still move. Look at the Pippen Olympic uptempos from 96. Super gone, with no release date.

KDs, Kobes and Lebrons do ok. But unfortunately they dont look that good. The KD's are horrible as far as looks. Kobes are a little better, still some trash models have come out. Lebrons has had a couple of nice kicks, no where near his first 8 models. Starting with the 9s, they are trash..

i do wanna add back in da day it was always aboyt da latest & greatest..it was more like da car industry now...da newer da better, with a niche' older car enthusiast market.

with kicks its reversed.

A lot of it comes down to the designs and make-ups of the shoes themselves. Nike's current wave of designers/artists are hacks that have tacky in their blood.

This is exactly why I'm into Jordans... the desire for the kicks I couldn't afford as a kid just never left me. This is why I could care less about Yeezys but go crazy for some Banned 1s, WC4s, Royal Foams, etc.

I can see that being a good reason. I do wear my kobe v's with some slim fit jeans they do look alright, but lebrons on the other hand look horrible for casual wear. I guess cats don't care about playing ball now and they just wanna look good casually.
