~NEW. Houston. TEXANS. Preseason Thread 2017~ Pats @ NRG

I do understand what he's saying and I would agree that we're incomplete at some positions to say "were just a QB away" but I wouldn't be opposed to them taking a QB in he first round either.

At some point if they want to get to anther level and become Pats South like y'all like to think then we need to develop a guy.

And drafting a QB that high and developing him probably means throwing away the rest of Watt's prime but that's a risk they've gotta be willing to take.

Pretty much. They currently have the 29th-32nd ranked QB starting for them, so any person they draft or sign/trade for couldn't possibly be worse.

They've pretty much built a team that can contend for the super bowl, I wouldn't call that "trash" per say.

Every team has its issues, he'll we discussed this earlier had we just had a average QB back there they would've beaten the pats.

The Oline was rocked by injuries and I agree we need a Coverage LBer but you don't think we can compete with anyone in the AFC with a QB?

The defense had the horses to compete with anyone, offense has the tools to be efficient.

The team is a QB away.

What's the big deal in picking up a Romo for a season or two and drafting a QB in the first? And having him wait / learn rather then throwing him into the fire.

And if we can't get a Romo fine, take the rookie and let the magic happen, it worked for the Seahawks / Steelers / Cowboys / etc.

There is no perfect formula in the NFL.

they're getting there. still missing some critical pieces.

I was all a part of the hype at the time too, but this is a myth

we're already able to "compete", and a QB would definitely make us more competitive, but idk about "anyone", the Pats are perennial Super Bowl contenders, fam. Besides, it's about being the best team in the NFL, imo.

We just drafted Tom Savage and spent a bunch of money on Brock in consecutive years. add paying a vet (any realistic vet that can start now will have at least a mention-able hit against our cap) AND using a 1st round pick on a position we historically haven't drafted well? What if the stater is subpar and the rookie is also subpar?

Russell Wilson and Dak were 3rd and 4th round draft picks respectively. If we could pull that off, that'd be quite ideal. that'd be equivalent to tom savage magically playing as well as dak

Savage was a 4th rounder who bounced around thru 3 colleges.

The team has drafted 6 QBs.

Carr : 1st
Ragone : 3rd
Symons : 7th
Brink : 7th
Yates : 5th
Savage : 4th

You make it seem like the team is drafting high draft choices year after year on QBs

They are drafting back ups.

Not to mention the QB position is the hardest position to draft / grade / hit on in any sport man.

There's what? 10 MAYBE 15 Capable starting QBs in the NFL currently? The rest are fodder / back ups.

**** how many QBs not drafted in the first round / 2nd rounds are quality QBs?

Wilson slipped cause of his size but people failed to realize he played behind a NFL sized line at Wisconsin.

Dak not sure why, but also concerns of his DUI so close to the draft.

The team isn't bad enough to get a high draft pick st QB.

So either trade the farm for a high pick / trade for one / draft one.

Sidenote:

Really like the kid from Texas Tech.

Pat Mahomes would be an even bigger project that Osweiler, 3,4 years easy.

Idk about him.

If he doesn't overthrow wide open guys, throw the ball at WRs feet, or have terrible mechanics in general, he's already ahead of him

deandre hopkins deandre hopkins I like Mahomes too. If we can draft a guy like him in a later round, that'd be a lot more ideal imo.

I'm definitely not saying we historically draft high for QB. I'm just saying in our current climate, based on our recent investment in the position, it's pretty risky to draft a QB with our first pick.

As he should :pimp: Should have never went to the Colts and definitely not the Titans tbh, cause he ended up catching either less than or as much as he was told he'd catch if he stayed on the Texans

Texans' Brian Cushing undergoes shoulder surgery

Cushing underwent shoulder surgery two weeks ago.

Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was forced to pull out of his first Pro Bowl after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.

During a recent appearance at the Ronald McDonald House of Houston, Cushing said he might have surgery to "clean up" some things.

Cushing played last season, his eighth with the Texans, with broken bones in his lower back. He said no surgery was required for the bones to heal, just some rest and rehabilitation.

HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans have added Wes Welker to their coaching staff as an offense and special teams assistant.

Welker wrapped up a 12-year playing career in 2015. He had 9,924 yards receiving and scored 50 touchdowns playing for five teams, including spending six seasons with the New England Patriots.

Houston also made some adjustments to its staff with Romeo Crennel, moving from defensive coordinator to assistant head coach/defense and Mike Vrabel shifting from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator.

Coach Bill O’Brien will take over offensive coordinator duties after George Godsey and the team parted ways after Houston was eliminated by New England in the divisional round of the playoffs this season.

Hopefully this could help Fuller run more than 2 routes, and catch the ball with two hands (besides the Super Bowl)
