~NEW. Houston. TEXANS. Preseason Thread 2017~ Pats @ NRG

I had said from the beginning he should have come back week 4 or 6 instead of the first game.

More concerned with the offense instead of defense though. The margin for error on that side of the ball just gets smaller now

So offensive play-calling duties is now being handed over to Bill O'Brien. That just makes me ask, what exactly will George Godsey be doing now ?

Stephen Anderson, Jonathan Grimes, and Braxton Miller are all ruled out for Sunday's game. I figured they would hold Miller out some more, but I didn't even know Anderson and a hamstring injury, nor did I know Grimes cracked his fibula :x :x he's supposed to be out for a month. Hopefully that means more Ervin getting carries instead of Blue. They need to find a balance anyway. Can't have Lamar Miller getting 25+ carries a game, and the next back only getting like 7, especially with how bad the line has been.

@HoustonTexans inactives today vs @Titans:
5- QB Weeden
13- WR Miller
41- RB Grimes
76- T Brown
78- G Aboushi
89- TE Anderson
93- DE Heath

Cushing is in his gear :nerd:

Glad for the win, but the mistakes on offense were :x the line was pretty bad, mostly in the second half, and some of Brock's throws were either too high, or just where they shouldn't be. Have to blame Hopkins on the first INT, but he should have thrown the ball more towards the sideline on the second INT. Defense played well late, but gave up some big plays and 3rd downs plays. Pass rush really needs to pick up. I know Watt is out, but there's still talent on this team and just simply need to step it up, especially with heading to the Vikings next week :x.

Will commend the play-calling in the first half though. Loved seeing the TEs get involved and Lamar Miller actually getting on the edge. Also, whoever made the call for Fuller to do punt return on that possession, clutch.

The Houston Texans had solid production from the tight end position in this weekend’s bout with the Tennessee Titans, with C.J. Fiedorowicz hauling in four receptions for 48 yards and a TD. Following his TD catch in the first half of the game, Fiedorowicz suffered a knee injury. Today it was reported to be an MCL sprain, though the injury is not considered serious.

#Texans TE CJ Fiedorowicz suffered an MCL sprain on Sunday, source said, that could cause him to miss some time.

It is not yet clear how much time Fiedorowicz will miss, if any. If he is sidelined for the upcoming match-up against the Vikings, his absence could potentially pave the way for a bigger performance from Ryan Griffin or rookie Stephen Anderson, who was held out of Sunday’s game due to a hamstring injury that he suffered against the New England Patriots.

Anderson had an impressive preseason, including 34 yards and a TD, and has an uncanny ability to get open. He could be in line for a larger role in the Houston offense in the wake of Fiedorowicz’s injury, and more snaps for Anderson is something most of us here at BRB would like to see.

I'm attempting to build a case as to how the Texans can win against the undefeated Vikings on the road, and all I can think of is by special teams and the defense, cause I'm just not comfortable yet with this offense going against a nasty defense like that. Our line is still tragic and I just don't see good things, especially considering the Giants did nothing. Sam Bradford has been annoyingly efficient since he's been a Viking, and it will be up to the Texans defense to make him as uncomfortable as possible. If when get lucky enough, we can hit on a couple big plays offensively.

The Texans shut down defensive end Devon Still for the season, placing him on injured reserve.

Still suffered a leg injury Sunday against the Tennessee Titans and was limping badly in the locker room afterward.

Still hadn't played football in a year before being signed by the Texans. He had spent the previous season caring for his daughter, Leah, during her successful fight with cancer.

Still was replaced on the active roster by Brandon Dunn.

A defensive lineman from Louisville who was on the Texans' active roster last season, Dunn was promoted from the practice squad.

The Texans signed defensive end Dan Pettinato to the practice squad to take over Dunn's spot.

we're wasting our time speculating about this team's true ability until we get a respectable line. Brock isn't gonna carry this team (at least not close per anything ive seen thus far), so we'll need to just have a well built team with all the pieces in place. til then, we're liable to win/lose any game imo. ha, smh

Brock needs to chill on the picks and trying to force it to Nuk. I know our o-line sucks *** but the coaches need to come up with a very good strategy against this Vikings defense

Brock needs to find a pass to Nuk that's going to be a completion to Nuk or incompletion only. Better quarterbacks find that pass with elite WRs if not more than one of those passes. I hope he's ultimately a "better quarterback"

HOUSTON -- Houston Texans rookie wide receiver Braxton Miller will be active Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Bill O'Brien said Friday.

"He did a nice job this week," O'Brien said. "Any time you miss time, it's tough especially on a rookie receiver, but I thought he came back, and he was obviously paying attention while he was out."

Miller injured his hamstring in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs and returned to practice for the first time this week. He was a full participant in practice Thursday and Friday.

Miller was the Texans' third-round pick out of Ohio State in the 2016 draft. He has two catches for 9 yards this season.

Earlier in the week, quarterback Brock Osweiler said it would be "great to have [Miller] back" on Sunday, calling him an "extremely dynamic football player."

Miller said Friday that his hamstring feels much better and that he can't wait to be back on the field with his teammates. He said this is the first time he has dealt with a hamstring injury, so he had to be careful and not rush his return.

"It feels good [to be back]," Miller said. "This is my life, so I love being out there with my teammates, my brothers. Come back and contributing at a high level. I can't wait."

MINNEAPOLIS - The Texans scratched injured veteran cornerback Kareem Jackson due to a hamstring injury suffered a week ago against the Tennessee Titans.

With Jackson out, Kevin Johnson, last year's first-round draft pick from Wake Forest, gets the start at cornerback.
Jackson allowed a 60-yard reception against the Titans and a touchdown pass in the season-opener against the Chicago Bears.

Jackson practiced this week on a limited basis and was listed as questionable.

Meanwhile, the Texans deactivated third quarterback Brandon Weeden, rookie tight end Stephen Anderson (hamstring), running back Jonathan Grimes (cracked fibula), offensive guard Oday Aboushi, defensive end Brandon Dunn and wide receiver Keith Mumphery.

Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs, their leader with 25 receptions and 372 yards, is inactive due to a groin injury. He had been listed as doubtful and not expected to play.

The Vikings are also playing without starting right offensive tackle Andre Smith.

Ugly game so far. Brock has looked mostly bad, but the defense also shouldn't have given up two swift TDs right how the gate. That double move they put on JJoe :x such an awful way to give up a TD. The Texans badly need a TD after the half.

Though they have nothing to do with giving up big plays on defense and stalling on offense, these injuries so far :x JJoe, Demps, Peters, Griffin, and Kareem beforehand. This sucks

Game wasn't all that different from the Pats game, other than the fact that we actually mustered up some points. Felt like a long lengthy suffocation instead of an NFL game. The Vikings just looked like they were faster and better in every way. Brock overthrew and made made reads, the line played crappy mostly (though it did seem like Brown played well), Miller couldn't get anything going, and the early coverage busts from the defense affected them later on. The punt return and 2 huge passing plays all amounted to 21 points. The offense showing SOME type of life what have done some good early on. Nothing went right. The Vikes constantly converted 3rd downs, our offense kept stalling, and injuries continued to pile up by the play it seemed. Kareem, JJoe, Demps, Allen, and Griffin all with something.

No luck what so ever. Simon could have turned the game had he not dropped that INT. Had a chance at an onside kick. Charles James and Bouye played rrreeeally bad today. The only bright spots were Clowney and McKinney, but everything they did was basically negated early on.

We ran a screen to Fuller on a 4th & 16 on the Vikings side of the field when the game was still sorta within grasp. Vikings took that short field and ended the game. That should tell everybody what you need to know about Bill OBrien.

I'm not entertaining anybody telling he's a decent coach.

Brock sucks, he's worse that Hoyer. And that's saying something.
