~NEW. Houston. TEXANS. Preseason Thread 2017~ Pats @ NRG

benched Brock :pimp:

Oh boy, what a game

Great comeback Texans!!! Excellent play calling on benching Brock

I 100% know BOB was starting to get a familiar feeling seeing Brock throw those INTs and ruin the game like Hoyer in the playoffs. Smart decision to not let Brock meltdown and sink the team, especially since the stupid *** Chiefs let the Titans comeback. We basically have to win out, which sucks, but I prefer to attempt that in Savage, who puts the ball where it needs to be, instead of overthrowing or under throwing, and simply playing a clean game. We had the highest amount of passing yards in a LONG time. They have to know just to get Savage ready for the rest of the season and get this Brock experiment over with. Other than height and being able to run, Brock has not shown anything else that would lead me to believe he could be a franchise QB. That dream is over.

So Texans wins have lead to the firing of Gus Bradley and the Titans specials teams coach.

That honestly shows they think we're trash :rofl:{

Texans are first in defense, 16th against the run and second against the pass. DC Romeo Crennel is doing a tremendous job.

As it should be:

HOUSTON -- Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said Tom Savage will start at quarterback on Saturday against the Cincinnati Bengals.

O'Brien benched starting quarterback Brock Osweiler midway through the second quarter on Sunday, with Houston trailing the Jacksonville Jaguars 13-0. Savage led the Texans to a comeback 21-20 victory in relief of Osweiler.

After the game on Sunday, O'Brien would not name a starting quarterback for Saturday's game against the Bengals but said, "We don't make decisions on how much a guy gets paid. We make decisions on what's the best way to win a game."

i

The Texans gave Osweiler a four-year, $72 million contract in March, though just two years and $37 million of it is guaranteed. Savage, who is in the third year of his rookie contract he signed after being drafted by the Texans in 2014, is guaranteed just $300,584 for the remainder of his contract.

Savage finished 23-of-36 for 260 yards after entering in the second quarter on Sunday. Before he was benched, Osweiler was 6-of-11 for 48 yards and two interceptions. Neither quarterback threw a touchdown.

The Texans are in a playoff race, tied with the Tennessee Titans atop the AFC South at 8-6. Houston holds the tiebreaker since the Texans are 5-0 in the division. The Texans and Titans play Week 17 in Tennessee.

HOUSTONHouston Texans DE Jadeveon Clowney was named to the 2017 Pro Bowl, the NFL announced today. The game will be played at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla. on January 29, 2017. This marks the 13th consecutive season that the Texans have had at least one player elected to the Pro Bowl.

“I’m excited to be selected to my first Pro Bowl,” said Clowney. “I want to thank Coach O’Brien, Coach Crennel, Coach Vrabel and Coach Weaver for believing in me and pushing me to get to his point. It’s an honor to be recognized with the best players from around the NFL. I’m going to continue to work to help my team win games.”

In his third season with the Texans, Clowney will be making his first trip to the Pro Bowl. He has set single-season career highs in tackles (49), sacks (5.0), tackles for loss (15) and quarterback hits (16), while starting 13 games this year. Clowney leads the team and ranks tied for fourth in the NFL in tackles for loss and is one of only four players in the league with multiple games with three-or-more tackles for loss.

Clowney is part of a defense that ranks first in the NFL in total net yards (306.5) and first downs (17.2) allowed per game, second in net passing yards allowed per game (203.5) and sixth in opponent third down percentage (36.3). Since Week 8, the Texans have only given up 70.6 net rushing yards per contest, which also leads the league.

T Duane Brown, WR DeAndre Hopkins, RB Lamar Miller and OLB Whitney Mercilus were named as alternates.

Houston Texans Morning Huddle–Dillon Pays

Poor K.J. Dillon. The Houston Texans rookie safety is a frugal fella, drafted in the fifth round out of West Virginia and holding a $2.5 million deal over the first four years of his career. Dillon just wants to order some salads and save some money.

That’s not happening when he’s forced to go out to eat with a bunch of Texans veterans, who decided to stick him with the bill at Pappa’s restaurant.
Dillon tweeted a picture of the bill he had to pay, a whopping $16,255.20 tab, which was the number before tip came in.

Tom Savage's new role with Texans full of playoff pressure
View media item 2270481
Of the 10 quarterbacks who have been on the Texans' roster in coach Bill O'Brien's three seasons, their only draft choice has an opportunity to lead them to a second consecutive AFC South title.

Tom Savage, selected in the fourth round in O'Brien's first season, starts the first game of his career against Cincinnati at NRG Stadium. The Christmas Eve game is nationally televised, and the Texans are hoping the nation sees what they saw from Savage in Sunday's 21-20 victory over Jacksonville.

Despite being one of the worst teams in the NFL, the Jaguars entered the game ranked fifth in defense. Savage replaced Brock Osweiler in the second quarter, rallied the Texans from a 13-0 deficit and finished 23-of-36 for 260 yards and, of vital importance, no turnovers.

Savage was rewarded with the first start of his career. And make no mistake, he will start the last two games and possibly a wild-card playoff game at NRG Stadium.

For the first time, Savage is under pressure to help the Texans - 8-6 and tied with Tennessee for first place - win the AFC South.

Meaningless game?

Savage's first start has intrigue because the Texans may or may not need to defeat the Bengals.

If the Titans win at Jacksonville, as expected, the Texans' game against the Bengals won't mean squat as far as the playoff race.

If the Titans win and the Texans lose, the division title will still be decided on New Year's Day in Nashville.

Now, if the Titans have a letdown after their incredible victory at Kansas City and Jaguars interim coach Doug Marrone can inspire his team to pull off an upset, a Texans victory against the Bengals would give them another division title.

In other words, the Texans will know before they kick off against Cincinnati if they need to win the game.

If Tennessee beats Jacksonville, I can see O'Brien resting players who are injured, but I don't see him resting players who are relatively healthy. Savage deserves more from his coach in his first start.

The Texans are trying to win a third consecutive game. They want to go to Nashville with the momentum and confidence of a three-game winning streak behind a quarterback who has injected some life into a passing offense that was DOA.

Let's be realistic here. The Titans are going to beat the Jaguars. They've been on a roll with back-to-back victories over Denver and Kansas City. Tennessee also has defeated Miami, Detroit and Green Bay.

No way the Titans lose at Jacksonville, right?

The Jaguars have no chance.

So, regardless of the outcome of the Texans-Bengals game, the AFC South is going to come down to Houston's current team against Houston's former team. What a way to end the regular season.

Patience pays off

And what an opportunity for Savage, the most recent player to be installed as a starter for a franchise that has misfired on developing a franchise quarterback dating back to David Carr in 2002.

Savage has been a picture of patience while watching and learning behind starters Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Mallett, Case Keenum, Brian Hoyer, T.J. Yates, Brandon Weeden and Osweiler.

Savage has a chance to lead the Texans to their fourth division title. If they win the AFC South, as it stands today, that wild-card game at NRG Stadium would be a rematch with Kansas City.

Savage has a chance to help the Texans finish 10-6, their best record under O'Brien. He has a chance to help them go 7-1 at home, increase their AFC South winning streak to 10 games and be 6-0 in the division for the first time.

Is Savage up to it? Who knows? But based on what we saw a little of in preseason and a lot of against the Jaguars, we might be foolish to bet against him.

radio reminded me that JD is 2 months younger than Carson Wentz and 2 years younger than Khalil Mack...

Narrative in my mind is JD got him a Pro Bowl in his rookie year  :pimp:

I honestly figured Doug Marrone would have the Jags playing out of their minds. I didn't think it would be a thorough beating though  . Just win Texans, that's all. Win and have some actual momentum, then get ready for a run.

Need to really get this running game going. Mix it up. Plus, the OL is looking poor, which is a reason for that right now

this is the worst game i've ever seen

You didn't watch Josh Freeman vs Eli Manning a couple years ago.

Fat Randy making FGs huh?

This o-line is playing terrible. The worst performance of the season so far. Only thing is they haven't played bad enough to turn it over
