~NEW. Houston. TEXANS. Preseason Thread 2017~ Pats @ NRG

So looking ahead slightly, we can finish anywhere from 25 - 32 ( :nerd: )

I'm assuming

QB
OL
TE
LB
DB

?

We need another tackle with Newton going down.

I would prefer a big athletic TE, while fedora isn't anything special, if we had a game breaker it would help.

A coverage LBer, Cushing has lost a step and whole 55 is a tackling machine, his coverage loves some to be desired.

JJ / Reem gotta go, or take a pay cut, we need to keep Bouye and KJ obviously, plus we got some dudes hurt / dept wise in the secondary.

Hopefully Wilfork stays another year but Reader is looking solid.

TE is a must address imo, the position is deep, but if you can get one of the top guys, it could really be a game changer and potentially save us from needing to "reach" on a QB. I hate to be so all in on OJ Howard b/c you just never truly know, and he might not even be available at our pick, but I think dude has star written all over him. Super athletic. 6-6, 250. Gronk is 6-6, 265 and this dude runs like a gazelle. And I'm going to assume he's at the very least a serviceable if not good blocker b/c he starts at Bama

OL is a major need, hoping Nick Martin comes back at the very least as a poor man's Zack.
100% on the coverage LB
If we can try to get more DBs of the Bouye mold, I'm all for it
Wouldn't mind a bigger safety depending on what's actually going on with Lonnie Ballentine behind the scenes

with all this said, we have to draft best available. We can't be reaching out of desperation. lol if we draft another DL high

I appreciate Blue, but watching him plod into the back of the line is

Keep Grimes, he got a burst in his run.

Keep Ervin, can't teach speed.

Hunt, whatever.

This is a DEEP RB class, we gotta steal someone in the 3rd/4th

Gotta see what Dillon / Ballantine can do and at least provide depth to the secondary.

Vrabel interviewing with the rams [emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128553[/emoji]

I saw this. Vrabel should really just give them a thanks but no thanks  Rams are a mess all the way around and really shouldn't even be a team for LA.

I feel like Grimes should start to eat into all of Blue's carries. They THINK Blue is a power back, but he really isn't. He's a special teams stud and every once in awhile he can break a long gain. Grimes has the shiftiness and speed to really make things happen. He's been really clutch on 3rd downs and such. Hunt and Ervin are interchangeable really, but you know Ervin gets the nod cause of being a draft pick.

Looking at that list of needs, and wow, that's a lot  agree about the DBs though. Your outside corners going forward need to be Kevin Johnson and Bouye. Kareem needs to permanently be in the slot, and JJoe should and more than likely will be a cap casualty. Ditto to a game-changing TE and a coverage linebacker. All our LBs are pretty much rushers and run stuffers.

Saw a mock where we landed Cam robinson in the first and Butt in the 2nd

Not a fan.

word? yea idk about Cam. I always give bama linemen the nod though its real out there in the SEC trenches

I know Jake Butt has been touted for a min, but i haven't watched much or seen athleticism jump off the charts.

actually i just read an article about cam getting arrested for gun possession and marijuana. He got it dismissed, but no way the Texans drafting a guy with any sort of "baggage". ha

Good luck gentleman hate the pats ( huge jets fan) work for NRG so I'm wearing my red Andre Johnson jersey to support the club :smokin

Tonight's @HoustonTexans inactives:
5- QB Weeden
27- S Demps
51- OLB Simon
53- ILB Bullough
73- G Walker
82- WR Williams
97- DE Kamalu

Sigh Demps

Brock needs to go. No other way around that. BOB is fighting an uphill battle not only trying to coach an awful QB like Brock, but ****** management with McNair and Smith. They are clearly awful at making evaluations and need to stay out of draft rooms and let BOB bring his guys in. A second year of the QB being the driving force to sink the season. Amazing.

Rick Smith has to be the worst GM in the league

I swear to god, if Brock is the starter next year

I didn't really expect to win this game, but its so sad to see just how winnable this game was. If you just have average QB play, this defense is good enough to win a super bowl

edit: This defense with a healthy Watt next year
eek.gif

The future is damn bright, just get some offensive linemen and a QB

Re-sign Romeo, Bouye, Demps to another vet contract, some others

Give the boot to Brock, Kareem, JJoe, Godsey, Clark, probably even Izzo, probably Cushing, plan to be without Newton, some others.

Either draft a QB or find a way to pry Stafford away from the Lions while another QB sits behind him to develop, idk. I'd hate to see what a Cutler/BOB combo to be like. Attitude wise it sounds like a disaster, but he's better than what we have unfortunately. Whatever gets us out of this mediocrity we're shuffling through.

Everything I said last page was spot on.

Coverage LBer

Reem / JJoe gotta go and Bouye is priory number 1.

Another TE we can run 2 TE sets and scare teams. fedora is basically Owen Daniels light without the relliabily (yet).

At this point Cush either has to take a pay cut and come off the bench or he can go to.

Teams picked us apart all season shifting 55 into coverage, he's not built for it.

Vince I would love back, depending on the deal.

The team is young / under cap.

We're legit a QB away from a super bowl.

Oline played solid this game.

We gotta figure out RT, newton is done (cap hit)

Martin is basically a rookie next year ( Mancz was solid)

I think the Oline graded at 16th as a unit.

Also feel like we've moved away from play action :smh:

And once fuller dropped that pass I knew it was over :frown:

Hopefully bob stays man.

Lions will not trade Stafford, doesn't make sense.

They had a shot at winning the division / top 2 seed if he doesn't get hurt.

Cutler? Another bandaid :smh:

Romo :nerd:

Remember a few years back when rumors were swirling on how the Steelers were gonna blow it up and trade Ben? :smh:

Chargers won't trade rivers
1. They just moved
2. Into the same conference

Cutler :x

Cousins ? :nerd:

Romo.....

Saints won't move Bresus

49ers / Browns / Jets / Bills / Cardinals

Could all use QBs:

49ers is 50/50 depending on the combine
Browns prob take UNC kid (from OH)

Jets / Bills / Cards are a mess so who knows

******* hell

^Playaction was a staple when Schaub/Kub were here, I honestly don't remember it being ran much with BOB, but I definitely know it wasn't ran much this season, even though we have the personal here to do it (minus the QB unfortunately).

And I definitely remember the Ben rumors cause there were people asking would you trade Watt for him  .

Unfortunately Romo looks like the best option, which means Savage/Weeden better take first team snaps as well.

When you guys get a chance look at the kid from TT.

I know they have a stigma about them and their system.

But he has the size and strength.

And honestly might be a viable option at 25 :nerd:
