~NEW. Houston. TEXANS. Preseason Thread 2017~ Pats @ NRG

I've legitimately never hear "steal" referencing xsf before or after the draft.

And I legit can't entertain a conversation about a bunch of uninformed fans not liking a player bc of his brother. Not to the point where we justify not evaluating a multi million dollar asset for a business.

I cringe evertime that argument is used

Well you don't have to entertain it because that's exactly what the front office did.

Exactly why he needs to bounce.

Again, def have seen improvement. I think a lot of that has been based on the coaches he's drafted tho. Which makes sense (to a small degree). But at the end of the day, he's also set us back years. We're floating in mediocrity. It reminds me of the early 2000s Rockets.

There are key things we need to do to be a successful team and go beyond 9-7.

Fire Rick Smith
Get rid of our current OC and his horrible play calling
Draft a QB and DEVELOP HIM
Draft OL to protect that QB
Stop trying to be other teams

Those were some terrible years  I just hate it feels like we're wasting guys primes right now. No reason to have a good amount of good players, and let 1 position totally sink us to the point where it affects other positions.

Welp, Brock is starting :frown:

I had a gut feeling he would based on his fairly decent play when he stepped in, and the fact that health wise, I couldn't see Savage starting back so soon. Things just seemed fishy when he came running back out onto the field Sunday, set to go back in (they even told Brock that Savage would be playing again), then Savage didn't actually play. This game is a total coinflip, cause the defense is gonna do all it can to win the game, but the QB play just ain't there. And if we get the same OL play we've had since the Bengals game, we will sure take another embarrassing home playoff loss captained by Connor Cook.

Here's how the injuries are looking heading into the game. I didn't even realize Simon had got hurt again. Thought he came out the game just cause that was his first game back and only had a set number of plays.

We'll see

Jadeveon Clowney and the Texans’ No. 1 defense could be a problem in the playoffs

Amazing :smokin

The Texans have just three wide receivers active for Saturday's AFC wild-card playoff game against the Oakland Raiders: DeAndre Hopkins, Will Fuller and Keith Mumphery. They scratched rookie wide receiver Wendall Williams. The Texans also deactivated inside linebacker Max Bullough, who's normally a regular backup on defense and a special-teams stalwart. Meanwhile, the Texans also deactivated defensive end Ufomba Kamalu, offensive guard Josh Walker, cornerback Denzel Rice, outside linebacker John Simon (chest) and quarterback Tom Savage (concussion).

congrats guys, good luck to yall going forward.

Appreciate it :pimp: glad for the win, even though we know with Carr, it would more than likely have been a different outcome.

Rooting on Miami, but at this point, it really doesn't matter whether it's KC or NE, it'll be tough either way. Regardless of last year, I'd prefer facing Alex Smith than Brady, but it's whatever. Most Texans fans fans know changes still need to be made. And fairly good and mistake free Brock game doesn't change that. he was 14/25 for 168 yards and a rushing and passing TD. The defense can play just how it did today next week, but even without turning it over, I don't see how the Texans would win throwing for less than 200 yards. Oh well, we'll see what happens....

I'm glad we took care of business, but no one should be fooled into thinking we're contenders

Now on the other hand. If we sure up the offensive line and somehow just manage to get an average QB, we'd be talking

Is it bad I'd kill for Andy Dalton or Alex Smith?

That's the thing, the QB simply doesn't even need to be great, just average  #16 QB play would be sufficient. But I kept mentioning Stafford in the playoff thread just because. He'd be great here while someone else develops.

been saying that all season

On 790 this morning, I heard two of the three biggest underdogs (point spread) in playoff history were outright winners.

So looking ahead slightly, we can finish anywhere from 25 - 32 ( :nerd: )

I'm assuming

QB
OL
TE
LB
DB

?

We need another tackle with Newton going down.

I would prefer a big athletic TE, while fedora isn't anything special, if we had a game breaker it would help.

A coverage LBer, Cushing has lost a step and whole 55 is a tackling machine, his coverage loves some to be desired.

JJ / Reem gotta go, or take a pay cut, we need to keep Bouye and KJ obviously, plus we got some dudes hurt / dept wise in the secondary.

Hopefully Wilfork stays another year but Reader is looking solid.
