Well they can't just have every run play be an off tackle play if he's an every down back

But there hasn't been a single time he's ran on the edge  it's like every single play they attempt to have him run up the gut like he's Lendale White

Texans' Bill O'Brien preparing for Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett

HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans aren't sure who will start at quarterback for the New England Patriots on Thursday night after starter Jimmy Garoppolo left Sunday's game against the Dolphins with a shoulder injury.

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said Houston has to prepare for both possible starting quarterbacks, Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett, as well as tight end Rob Gronkowski, who is dealing with a hamstring injury.

“To me, we have to get ready for Jimmy, we have to get ready for Jacoby and we have to get ready for Gronkowski," O'Brien said. "We just need to do a really good job of being really focused over the next three days here. There may not be a lot of physical work, but there will be a lot of mental work."

O'Brien praised both quarterbacks from the film he has watched and what he saw from Brissett while evaluating him during the pre-draft process.

"[Garoppolo's] two games against Arizona and Miami were very impressive," O'Brien said. "This guy is a really good quarterback, smart, quick release, accurate, can run, tough guy.

"When Jacoby went in there (Sunday), I thought he handled the game really well, good poise. We will continue to study. We will work hard, just like they are working hard, and try to do the best we can to put together a good game plan.”

Here are six players to watch, courtesy of ESPN Patriots reporter Mike Reiss:

OFFENSE

QB Jacoby Brissett: The 2016 third-round pick from NC State (91st overall) looks like he’ll be thrust into a starting role in just his third career NFL game. One of the first things that stands out is his size (6-foot-4, 235 pounds). He is tough to tackle, somewhat similar to Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles. Teammates and coaches have praised his poise, saying he is not easily rattled. He initially committed to the University of Florida before transferring to NC State and is mentored by Pro Football Hall of Famer Bill Parcells.

RB LeGarrette Blount: The last time Texans fans saw the bruising 250-pound power back was Dec. 13, 2015 when he left the Patriots-Texans game in Houston with a hip ailment that landed him on injured reserve. Blount has run hard through two games this season (51 carries, 193 yards, 2 TDs), with coach Bill Belichick saying one of the big differences between 2015 and 2016 for Blount is that he has more space to run as a result of better blocking up front.

TE Martellus Bennett: A nine-year NFL veteran, he was acquired from the Bears in a March trade after making waves in Chicago as he didn’t mix well with quarterback Jay Cutler. He has bought into the Patriots’ hard-driving culture and said after Sunday’s win that he hasn’t had this much fun playing football in some time. Bennett played 69 of 71 snaps in the opener and then was on for all 80 snaps in Week 2 as he’ll filled in for Rob Gronkowski and made major contributions as a blocker and pass-catcher.

DEFENSE

DE Chris Long: After eight seasons with the Rams, the 2008 first-round draft choice signed a modest one-year deal to join the Patriots in the offseason and has quickly emerged as a top performer and emotional leader of sorts. Long battled injuries in 2014 and 2015, which contributed to his drop in production, and a return to health has been cited as a critical factor in him regaining some of his old explosion. Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia said, “Chris is just a true professional, a very coachable guy and a great addition to the team as far as being a great teammate. I think for him and for us, it’s just been a good kind of fresh start to have him here.”

LB Jamie Collins: The 2013 second-round pick is one of the NFL’s most athletic players at the position and was asked to do more in Sunday’s win with fellow linebacker Dont'a Hightower out with a knee injury. Collins wore the green dot on his helmet as the primary communicator and leader of the huddle. One of his highlight plays came in 2015 when he leaped over the line of scrimmage to block an extra point against the Colts, which showcased the type of athleticism he has. He is scheduled for unrestricted free agency after the season.

CB Malcolm Butler: The Super Bowl XLIX hero built off his his interception against Seattle to put together a Pro Bowl season in 2015. One thing to watch for Thursday night is how an ankle injury affects him, as he had some struggles in the second half of Sunday’s win over the Dolphins. At his best, his reactive athleticism to mirror opposing receivers is one of the top assets, as he is a feisty competitor who sometimes draws the opponent’s top receiver. He is scheduled to be a restricted free agent after the season.

All phases of the game trash. I'm only blaming the defense due to special teams playing awful and the shoddy offense keeping them on the field. This was brutal. Outcoached and outplayed in every way. You can't come off a good redeeming win over one thorn in your side and put on this type of performance against another. Bad QB play, bad o-line play, leading to nothing from the WRs nor the RBs. Just 1 of the many types of losses that will add to everything the national media already thinks about them.

Like seriously, why do we have to lose like this on Primetime?!! We didn't have any fight in is the whole game. I hope this is our Dolphins game like last year and we wake the **** up!!

Lol, we're trash for that. A loss was sort of predictable. Media called it, down to the style of play they'd try to employ. Not like we got blind sided by any of it, we just **** the bed

Surprised we got blown/shut out tho. Pretty embarrassing

It was just weird. They eliminated everything the Texans are good at, highlighted the things they aren't good at, and dismantled them. I said I didn't care what QB was there cause they're still a Belichick team, but I at least expected a closer game with that. You have to play them flawlessly, yet that rarely happens. Belichick needs to go home and be a family man already. I'm tired of losing to them no matter who they have. He's the one constant and it's sickening.

our offensive line isn't good. we couldn't run the ball against basic defensive fronts.

And we continued to just try to run it up the gut every time. Such a pathetic performance from everybody involved.

The offense and especially special teams kept the defense on the field, but even early in the game, you shouldn't have a team backed up almost in their own endzone on 3rd and 15, and let them get off 16 yards for a first down. Those PI penalties too :x the first PI early in the game basically lit a match to ignite the Pats. Just an overall ****** loss that that makes every media source stamp the team as a joke and followers of those media source eat it up

Worst part is the Pats D was giving us looks, begging us to run the ball and we still couldn't do anything

Y'all notice we almost exclusively ran out of the pistol. And once it wasn't working we just kept doing it. No adjustments whatsoever

Not one single thing, other than Miller running for 11 yards I guess in the 4th

Exclusively. Something I don't think we did in the Bears game nor the Chiefs game. Belichick just makes people **** the bed on all accounts

The lone bright-spot from Thursday's dismantling

Busting through the middle of the New England Patriots' offensive line on a fire blitz, Texans inside linebacker Benardrick McKinney sacked rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

McKinney was one of the few bright spots for the Texans during a humiliating 27-0 loss Thursday night at Gillette Stadium. He recorded a career-high 16 tackles, including the sack.

Starting every game this season, McKinney has 29 tackles and two sacks.

With veteran middle linebacker Brian Cushing still sidelined with a sprained medial collateral ligament for the next two to four games, McKinney is wearing the helmet communication device to relay the defensive calls from the coaches to the huddle.

"I thought that McKinney played a good game," Texans coach Bill O'Brien said. "He had a bunch of tackles. McKinney, he's gotten better and better in this league and he's a really good player for us."

At a lean 6-4, 260 pounds with 4.65 speed in the 40-yard dash and a 40 1/2 inch vertical leap, McKinney is one of the most athletic players on the defense.
View media item 2177034The Texans expect even bigger contributions from the former second-round draft pick from Mississippi State after watching him record 68 tackles, including seven for losses and a sack, as a rookie in 14 games and 11 starts.

As a defense, the Texans didn't tackle particularly well.

"We have to get back in the workshop," McKinney said. "Everybody believes in this team. We're like family. We didn't play like we wanted to play. We did miss some tackles.

"We need to have fun and play our style of defense. I just did my job. We lost. I'm really not into stats. When we lose, I'm definitely not into it."

Ryan Griffin was 8 for 52 as well, but boo whooo, him and the TEs should be stepping up nyway

HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON)Houston Texans left tackle Duane Brown returned to the practice field on Monday after missing the first three weeks of the regular season and the entirety of training camp rehabbing from a torn quad muscle sustained in Week 17 of the 2016 season.

Head Coach Bill O’Brien has to look at Brown this week and determine if he’s ready to face the division rival Tennessee Titans but did say he could be back this week.

“Possibly this week,” O’Brien said of Brown’s status. “You never know.”

Brown avoided the PPU list at the end of training camp which would have held him out for a minimum six weeks before returning.

If the Pro-Bowl left tackle does get on the field Chris Clark will be relegated to fill in duty while Brown gets 100% healthy.

Honestly, if Brown is healthy and good to go, I'd rather he come back this week vs the Titans instead of coming back vs the Vikings. I'm totally dreading the thought of the Vikings defense mauling him (and the o-line in general). Realistically, probably should just hold him out with a bunch of practices leading up to the Colts game.
