WASHINGTON — It’s been an ongoing problem from Baltimore to D.C. — motorcycle packs that flout traffic laws, popping wheelies, burning rubber and driving the wrong way. But their antics Sunday afternoon on the Beltway in Prince George’s County reached a new level of audacity.

They heckled an off-duty Maryland state trooper.

“The trooper was driving on the Outer Loop in a marked state police vehicle when he was surrounded by 50 to 100 motorcycles and dirt bikes. They surrounded his vehicle and slowed their speed requiring, obviously, the trooper to slow down to avoid hitting any of them,” said Greg Shipley, a spokesman with Maryland State Police.

The trooper was among many drivers on the Beltway who encountered the motorcycle pack. State police received numerous phone calls Sunday from drivers complaining about reckless operations by motorcycles on Interstates 95 and 495.

“It was certainly a dangerous situation out there caused by these individuals,” Shipley said.

The trooper radioed for help. Responding troopers from the Forestville and College Park barracks pursued the bikers, some of whom rode the wrong way on the Beltway to evade police. All of them got away.

“They disappeared very quickly,” Shipley said. “They either had no tags on the motorcycles or had them tucked up so they weren’t visible.”

:smh: This is crazy....police have a "no chase" policy, and obviously for good reason, but it's pretty much giving some of these clowns the green light to do whatever they want on the roads.

Not sure what the solution to this is....especially since these bikes have plates flipped up/no tags...good luck trying to find out who was in this group.

Perhaps if some of the bikers were black, the police would have started shooting at them.

- The officer gets leave with full pay

- gets praised by his colleagues and upper management

- gets away with murder as usual

Yeah this crap is an issue in Queens, NY also.

I seen these fools wildin on the Van Wyck back in July when I was headed to JFK to drop someone off.

As a motorcyclist myself nothing can be done unless police go back to their old chase policy but because of the motorcycle death on Route 50 a few years ago that will not happen. Citizens and police are just going to have to bear it and hope for the winter months and cold weather to deter them.

I live in PG and this Bike Life DC wave that just started kicking up over the last couple years is getting wild. This story is wild

They still got that 12 O'clock boys thing down there? I remember the documentary about it

Police are gonna start setting up traps and blocking exits....probably wait in the cut during heavy traffic and create some sort of sting operation. They're gonna have no luck tracking any of these guys down due to the plates being taken off or flipped. Got a feeling this won't be the last we hear of it...

It's PG. I'm sure 98% of the bikers were Black.

100% ALL of the bikers were black lol this is the bike life culture here in DC / PG / Baltimore .

I remember 10 years ago I saw a cop trying to follow a couple guys riding ATVs down Central Ave. Dudes hit hit a fakie on the 95 exit and came back down while the cop was still going on.

I see dudes all over 495/210 stupid reckless, especially earlier this summer when the weather first broke.

One guy wheelie'd through 4-5 lights on 210 only stopping for the red lights and then popping back off, and slowing traffic so everyone could see him. Cats racing, running reds, etc etc.

**** the feds, but **** these reckless ****** on bikes too son. Almost ****** me up once.

**** wasn't like this a few years ago. I'm all for guys out there riding and enjoying themselves, but not at others livelihood and expense.

Saw a couple kids getting chased past my neighborhood once on dirt bikes by the feds. Dudes hopped on the sidewalk where people were walking to get away from the feds, and the feds tried to get up there until they saw civilians.

Ya remember that thread of the Range Rover dude that ran over that dumb *** and got chased down all the way to wash Heights and beaten to a pulp...the ignorance in that thread of dudes defending the bikers, as I said then, I'm in a situation like that, surrounded by these clowns and I feel threatened, my car is gonna turn into a bulldozer and these clowns best get out my way.

Can't stand irresponsible motorcyclist, that feel the road is their playground and want to bully everyone else.

Yall can have whatever opinions of the police that you want...but these reckless dudes on sport bikes are a major problem to just about EVERYONE on the road. They're clowns and beyond a nuisance.

Am I understanding this correctly? If I'' driving a motorcycle and a cop tries to pull me over I can just take off and he'll let me go?

Nah, man. Chase these dudes. If they wanna risk their lives that's on them.

As a biker in this area that KNOWS some of those bikers that are on those videos and hold up traffic trust me when I tell you there is NOTHING cops can do to stop them. 2 wheels beats 4-wheeled vehicles in a trap/chase any day of the week....twice on Sunday @DoubleJs07. They don't even break out the helicopter for these bikes anymore because it's a waste of time and it gives the bikers the attention they want.

Trust me....I get it. They're not about to chase these guys or break out the chopper because it's a waste of resources. However, I'm sure the police will reach out to the NYPD and see how they're going about seizing the bikes (NY cracked down earlier this year and destroyed a lot of illegal bikes.) Probably hoping that one of these knuckleheads slips up somehow, which would lead to multiple arrests/bikes taken.

not even sure what can be done considering the mobility of dirt bikes/ATVs...

if the cops give chase, the riders could easily go off the pavement to loose them...

I don't think too many guys would risk taking their sport bikes off-road....

ATVs/dirt bikes, sure.
