Is Self Driving Technology going to put Truckers out of work?

They need to save the money they making and figure s_ out and NOT ignore what's coming over the horizon for them.

Technology will always make certain jobs obsolete, like the elevator operator, so if you in a replaceable career, you best prepare.

That Otto kit mentioned in the article seems like the best of both worlds: the driver can rest while the computer drives on long highways, and the human can take over on city streets or other tricky parts that require complex decision-making. A truck like that could potentially drive non-stop (besides stopping for fuel), making for a faster and more efficient trip.

Also, the convoy method mentioned further down in the article sounds pretty good, too- the lead truck would (probably) have a human driver, and the following trucks are automated, following their own sensors and readings sent to them from the lead truck.

Also, I'm waiting for the movie to come out about dudes trying to hijack a self-driving truck hauling some kind of valuable cargo

If there's a driver onboard, he might have a chance to fight back...

Ninja, I'm sorry man, but you're looking down the barrel of the gun. I hope you're okay for the next couple decades, but you gotta be planning on the next steps in case this makes your job obsolete. I'm on the other side of this industry, and best believe this is having effects on my side already. I'm planning and getting my qualifications ready just in case this happens in the next several years.

No it won't put truckers out of work. class A CDL sir... driving 45' semi tractors wit 10+ gears & backing it up in any kind of weather is da antithesis of easy.

no way in 10 years you gonna randomly see self driving cars afoot.

legislation, da NHTSA, insurance companies are no where near started on laws, let alone guidelines on how autonomous vehicles can operate have been formally cemented, by da time that happens ill be ready to call it a career.

Agreed. That's why I think computers will complement but not fully replace human truck drivers.

Insurance broker, specifically for commercial trucking. Best believe the insurance industry is planning regulations and getting ready for autonomous semi trucks. Autonomous = less liability = faster implementation.

I won't stand for it.

Yall can have that auto crap

Automate deez nuts, Ima be burning Mary swervin in the caddy .

I don't think this affects Ninja, by the time he's in his 40s he should be preparing for retirement in the DR anyways.  More so affects the other truckers

My kid's could grow up in a world where learning how to drive is obsolete.

Wild to think of.

da plot to da 1st Fast & Furious gonna come to fruition wit bot drivers, best believe that
