If Spurs get a top 3 seed, Kawhi is winning MVP and deservedly so.

I think we see an even bigger step forward from him.

25/8/4 on 50% shooting with his usual all world defense.

He's the unquestioned leader of the team now, he's said it and Pop has.

With his drive + the system + supporting cast, I don't see how he doesn't level up again this year and enter himself into conversation of best player in the world.
Nah, he's not offensively consistent enough to average quite as much as 25. Has way too many games where he goes ghost mode on offense. Especially if he would have to nearly double his assist average as well, as in your post. And if he did become so good offensively to a point where he averaged 25, his defense would unquestionably suffer. Something's gotta give. T-Mac in his last year in Toronto was on his way to becoming a Pippen-like defender, but then he went to Orlando where he averaged 27-32 ppg and was never seen playing defense again.

As for the "best player in the world" label, he's certainly not going to get that no matter what he does in the regular season. Because regular season alone won't erase his two consecutive choke jobs in the playoffs in two series where his team was favored to win both times, and which are bound to get mentioned whenever someone starts calling him the greatest player in the world.

The MVP is LeBron's to lose. It will depend on if he's once again able to avoid serious injury and how much he puts the pedal to the metal over the regular season, which he really hasn't done since the last time he won regular season MVP. Legacy-wise, in the long run I think LeBron should focus on the regular season this time around because he ain't winning no chip over these overpowered Warriors this year and probably ever again. 20 years down the line looking back at this particular season, he would regret not focusing harder on the regular season and getting his 5th MVP instead of focusing on a championship that is flat out unwinnable.

10-1 odds on him winning the award and imo I don't see any scenario where he doesn't win.

My only other realistic pick is LeBron. He plays 70 games does typical LeBron things plus the carryover from the NBA Finals win and the fact that the "LeBron is declining talk" was silenced can easily get him there.
Blake will win it if he doesn't get hurt again.

He missed a ton of time during the year so his offseason training started a bit earlier than normal. so he's in fantastic shape. Doc wants them to move with better pace offensively so Blake will get a few more possessions to work with.

I expect career highs across the board for Blake.

OKC & SAS will both take steps back from last season, that leaves LAC as the probable #2 seed IMO.

One of the most underrated players in the game.

Like a fine wine, getting better with age.

I remember saying that Anthony Bennett could be Milsap at very best when he was drafted and some people acted like that was disrespect to Bennett

This. We already saw it in the playoffs last year when his per 36 was astronomical in limited minutes against the zombie grizzlies and then his stats took a dive when he actually played big minutes against okc, highlighting the flimsiness of per 36. This aint 2k where you can turn fatigue sliders down. And his defense also likely won't look as good since he won't have much help at all on that end.

I wouldn't be so quick to say LeBron doesn't care about the regular season. He's trying to build a legacy and while chips are important - most points of all time is still in play for LeBron. Unless he's really hurt, I expect him to go hard.

Last year he was freaking out during the regular season and it ended up winning them a chip. Don't think he'll change that especially if GSW is getting all the attention.

Kawhi played badly in the Clippers series but he was also a different player then.

He expanded his offense in a way that few players have done last season, that's only going to continue.

OKC series, he still played great, just got out played by the second best player in the world arguably.

23/7.8/3.5/2 on 48% shooting "taking a dive" than you living in your own world.

He's 25 years old, coming off a historically effecient high scoring season and his second DPOY as a WING PLAYER.

I'm sorry but y'all not going to tell me anything about him, I doubt that you've watched all his tape if it's even a discussion on whether or not he can win MVP.

His defense may suffer a bit without Duncan and with more offensive responsibility but he's not regular at all. He's a genetic freak who's coming into the peak of his own powers, if there was already a precedent for him I would understand but there's not.

We gon see though, I'm so excited for the season to start b. :smh: :pimp:

This what happens when you don't look at the big picture . For one, I meant relative to his per 36 against the grizz which dudes were on here hyping up. Another thing, I said big minutes. He had great stats in game 1 v. Okc but he only played 21 minutes. After that he had 3 games shooting below 40%, the spurs lost all 3 of those games and he struggled down the stretch. You can say he had pretty stats overall but take an in depth look and it tells a different story. He didn't sustain his production in limited minutes against an injured team and no player should reasonably be expected to.

cavs probably gonna start out a little slow from chip hangover
lebron gonna talk to the media saying the effort isn't championship level
he'll probably sit out on some back to back nights to save his legs
team will start picking it up
lebron numbers will be better and he'll be back in the mvp discussion

if the w's win 70+ again, i just don't see how you don't give it to steph or kd

darkhorse could be russy, but okc would have to finish with a top 4 record, which i don't see it happening

The Spurs have had a top 3 record like every damn season  Why eould having one this year guarantee an MVP for Cuhwhy?

I gope the voters don't do to Steph what they did to Bron. Once you win back to back they start lookinng for reasons not to give it to you. The bball gods made Rose pay for the voters' sins. If Steph has another historical season he better win it.

Tbh I can see this. Especially the best in the world conversation, he kind of should be already in there now.

However, it takes more than a top 3 seed. Spurs would have to get into that top 2 for KL to get that IMO

Y'all tripping thinking Bron will/should go for more MVP's rather than rest during the season before turning into Captain Cleveland in the playoffs.

I'm 100% sure he feels he can beat the Warriors even with KD especially in their first year playing together.

Usage.

Same reason why Steph won't be able to put up historical #'s again unless someone else in the Big 4 gets injured for an extended time.
