Spurs according to the stats were still elite defensively when Duncan sat. I think Danny green will also remember how to shoot he has too also they need to play Simmons and Anderson more

One of the greatest moments in Sports I've ever seen.

Everything was on the line here, so much of 2012 to now in the NBA looks totally different.

For all the talk about Bron not being "clutch", the single game when his legacy was on the line, he answered emphatically.

AND on my birthday.

Came back from shopping in Soho, smoked a blunt of sour and sat in my parents basement watching my favorite athlete of my young life force the doubters to put respect on his name.

**** is inspiring b.

I was so ready to beat the Celtics for that chip

Yeah you're right I think they were elite defensively last season w/o duncan, except for like a five game stretch or something. Idk, I don't really remember. I don't even know who they played either.

But I just don't see an elite defense for an entire season without duncan, and with both David Lee and Pau in addition to LMA in the rotation. They are in a real conundrum because they don't really have the talent to go small to matchup with like GSW and their bigs are clearly overwhelmed when it comes to matching up against DJ and Blake.

I don't think anyone expects them to beat GSW and The Clippers tbh they have flaws but the west is mediocre and they should be consistent enough to just execute and beat the teams they should beat

I feel you shoeking2102. That roster is flawed. Tp and mills as pg against probably the deepest position in the l.

And Pau and La as your front court. That's a butter soft front court. I see a huge drop off for the spurs this year. They days of contending are done with this roster

Just imagining Parker trying to guard Steph, Russ, CP3, Dame, Harden, **** even Conley, Bledsoe,D-Lo, and George Hill is painful.

What else could they do realistically

Trade back for George hill? No I don't like their chances but they didn't really have other options in terms of improving

Yeah I'm in total agreement here. The only difference is forget GSW and The Clippers, what about the rest of the conference? I have them third, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if they didn't have Homecourt in the first round this year. Memphis could supplant them this year too if everything goes well with them.

They are good enough as you alluded to, to win 50+ games this year, and maybe even have a top 10 offense and defense. But come postseason, it appears that they are going to be too void of talent, too slow, and may be even outcoached again for the 3rd straight postseason.

But this is why they play the games though. We'll see.

I think this is the year San Antonio falls to the 4-6 seed.

As washed as Duncan looked at times last season he was stil their defensive anchor. Replacing Duncan with Pau & starting him next to LMA is one of the worst defensive front courts in the league.

Pau and LMA have no interest in anything defensively.

Neither are good at switching PnR, both subpar rim defenders and uninspiring 1 on 1 defenders.

If the Spurs have a top 5 defense again, give Kawhi DPOY and MVP.

I think Aldridge is a fine defender. No all-league, but good enough not to worry about.

Pau and Lee on the other hand...

Wouldn't call LMA a "fine" defender, dude has never had a defensive RPM over 1 until last year which was just the function of the playing next to Duncan and Kawhi.

He never flashed any type of defensive prowess in Portland at all, eye test or #'s test.

He is who he is as a player at this point, elite mid range shooter/post scorer but not much else.

I agree with Zach Lowe that he gets traded at some point because his value is as high as it's going to be.

@MikeSGallagher [emoji]128293[/emoji]D’Angelo Russell’s shot chart in the preseason. Sitting at a 28.9 USG%. 61.1 TS%, 103.7 pace & even a 29.1 AST%[emoji]128293[/emoji]

Lotta folks really didn't take the kobe factor seriously

Though he was only a rookie, Bryant deterred his growth

Not even going to mention Byron Scott

The thing with me and DLo is that even with B Scott and Kobe in the fold last season, how good he could be potentially still bled through.

My optimism on DLO has nothing to do with the preseason right now, as good as he's been. You can just see it. At least I can. Certain things he's doing, and being so young and exhibting so much talent, and now LAL is giving him the ball all the time, it's just a huge perfect storm that suggest he's going to be pretty good this season and for years to come. And the most important factor is that you can tell he believes how good he is, and that confidence is a good thing imo
