I wouldn’t put any stock to that comment I only posted the tweet here because of the clip. But it’s little cuts like that which end up causing the death of the Lakers in these games.

Attention to detail and focus for 48 minutes… not 46 minutes and 11 seconds.

I'm pretty close to being the one that says coaching doesn't matter.

Really close.

I acknowledge there are good coaches. But when the game is happening, they don't actually matter.

Coaching matters to Max Christie.

Coaching doesn't matter to LeBron James.

There's not a coach in this league that can teach Bron anything.

Coach draws up a play during a TO. Run around a pick, throw a lob to AD.

*DLo throws pass into the crowd*

Coach A sits still in his chair not calling timeout during 20-0 run.

"Look at that poise, he wants his team to figure it out themselves"

Coach B sits still in his chair not calling a timeout during a 8-2 run.

"What an idiot! Call a timeout you moron!!!"

Depending on the results of the game/series/season people determine if that coach is any good.

Zero. ZERO NBA coaches challenge calls without MULTIPLE assistants behind the bench telling them to do so. (See Jason Kidd last night, looking at 6 dudes with laptops and IPads telling him yay or nay on challenging a foul call on Kyrie)

Next week or next month or whenever we're going to fire Ham and hire a new suit. Everyone will cheer. 6 months later this thread will be FULL of "why isn't ____ playing?"
"Why didn't he call a timeout!!!!" (When it's 32-24 in the 2nd quarter in November)
"Why are we just watching Bron dribble in the 4th quarter, run some offense??!!!"
"Why are we playing small ball???"
"Why are we playing 3 bigs???"

Etc etc etc

No matter what the coach does (good or bad) they will be second guessed and result judged ad nauseum by people who don't work for the team. Who don't sit in meetings. Who don't know speak with players. Who don't know what players show up late for practice or fall asleep during film sessions. Or who is forced down their throat by the GM.....or the star players.

Let the record show, one week ago THIS THREAD, DEMANDED DEEEEEEEEEMANDED Rui be a starter. Demanded. Play your best five!!!!

And this week Rui is killing our season and nary a word from anyone sayin maybe coach knew what he was doin months ago. Or the guy that was "unplayable" is the only player on the team scoring off the bench.

Instead we pivot to "why didn't Ham challenge the foul on Murray?"

It's not even really about me caring or believing if coaches do or don't matter. The folks in this very thread can't make up their mind what does or doesn't matter in terms of coaching, until a negative result occurs and then in unison everyone hones in on the guy for no reason.

AG on AD and KCP on Bron.......you fellas mean to tell me LeBron James doesn't know what to do with KCP on him? He needs a coach to help him? Y'all really believe that? Really?

Jamal Murray had MULTIPLE stops guarding LeBron in the 4th. A different suit would have helped Bron know what to do vs a much smaller player.......that he's faced 3 diff series since 2020?

Perceived by some… Of course the guys at ESPN who would rather sell drama would promote this kinda stuff. Look, AD said something after the game that could’ve been taken in a number of different ways. Maybe he meant coaching, maybe he meant players, maybe he meant LeBron calling an audible for his own number and deviating from the game plan… we really don’t know.

All someone has to do is ask AD what he meant by that comment, and I think we can put it behind us. Maybe that’s happened already but I haven’t seen it. I think it’s very disingenuous if you asked the perceived target of an insult what do you think about what this guy said about you before getting clarification…but hey I’m just a stand up guy so what do I know

I mean, I think AD was just frustrated like Ham said but when a star player says those exact words it naturally leads to discussion centered on the coach and staff.

All good in the hood man! I have been slowly but surely easing back off of social media and NBA twitter for those very reasons you listed. I actually like to talk hoops and between me (mostly) clowning around I feel like most of my takes are pretty reasonable… and I’m open to discussion on just about anything, except for DLo not sucking I draw the line in the sand there

I get that P, but it’s not really a discussion it’s just mob mentality mostly saying it has to be one way. I’d like to see people thinking a little more critically about these situations man. I’m not even saying I’m right and they’re wrong, but can we even talk about it? Thats the part that’s wild to me…

"Doesn't matter as much as people think" is fine.
"Doesn't matter to superstars, just the rotational guys"; cool.

And I pay Phil that respect, BUT.......Iono.

I find it EXTREMELY interesting that Phil joins grown up Mike and Scottie and wins 3 straight. Mike retires for 2 years, winning stops. Mike comes back, wins 3 straight.

Kobe reaches puberty and Kobe/Shaq 3 peat. 04 happens, Shaq leaves, and Phil is first round fodder to MDA.

Pau shows up, and 3 straight Finals runs.

Bron spends a million dollars a year on his body. The man went to 8 Finals in a row on two teams with 3 different coaches.

That 2011 run I mentioned earlier by the Mavs? Was that nuclear Dirk, or random middle aged white guy in a $2,000 suit? That "coach" knocked off Kobe, KD, and Bron all in the same postseason. He must have been super elite coach to pull that off, right?

Watching this Heat game and seeing what Sponis doing w/o Jimmy just solidifies that COACHING matters

It's no coincidence that there were coaches immediately before Bulls Phil & Lakers Phil, and then Phil gets things right.
There's value in a good coach, for purposes of motivation, organizing practice, worrying about time outs and rotations...
You're sounding very "I've never played sports but I've watched millions of minutes" right now, bruh.

Look at Miami. Inspirational. Players hitting shots, coach making adjustments when star player is out.

Not that I'm watching the game but just thinking about it what's preventing the referees in general from calling the game much more skewed this way for the regular season?

The scoring in general has been much more depressed and not flag basketball.
