So I'm 29. Black, 6'8. Use to hoop a little, average guy. My job is aerospace mechanic. My last contract was Santa Maria, then to so cal, now mobile Alabama. I was hoping to go back home (Seattle).

UPDATE***

Anyways I've been driving for 9hrs straight and looking up what Alabama has to offer. Chime in if anyone is from there. Also if ever been there. I have no clue, but since it's the south (gulp) and the Bible Belt, and where racial tensions I would assume are wilder, I just don't wanna end up in a bad situation. Trying to go in best foot forward.

So, do's and dont's?
I stay respectful so & I ain't about that life..
Just in the back of my mind I kinda wanna get a feel for the people and the day to day there.

Thanks .
(In b4 the RIP)

I went to Mobile, Alabama for a conference a few years back.

...and there was NOTHING there. I'm not trying to even be a cynic. Of course I was only there for 2-days. I did meet some cute AKA's that we're in college. But outside of that, just stack your money and chill

For the life of me I will never understand why NT only thinks racism is limited to the south.

I feel you bro, I had maybe a couple run ins in Seattle, I couldn't tell if people were being racist towards me in Cali cause of all the douche-baggery I couldn't call it.

But I guess when the majority thinks of racism, the south was like the breeding ground, founders, confederates, all racial movies take place there, klan is there, ect ect.. Definitely not limited to there, but definitely like if our country was called United States of Racism, the south would be the Capitol or where the whitehouse would be lol if that makes sense

Acknowledging known hot spots doesn't equal thinking racism is limited to the south. Save your pride for the region, they don't deserve it.

Precisely Fam. It's a global thing. But I envisioned it to be a hotspot/server bank/data center lol

The whole point of this thread was to figure out
A. How they get down out there?

B. Bars good spots?

C. And is all that racist crap as bad as its portrayed?

Ps - I'm 1/2 way through New Mexico right now
(Best part about the job, I'll be living at a hotel for 6 months)

If that was directed at me I was speaking for how slow and hilly billy the place probably is. Racism is everywhere but certain areas you can just feel it, it's in the air. I've been to areas like that. Concord, NC to be exact.

You can feel racism in every piece of America, but most just choose to ignore it because they see PAWGs. More power to you on that one though.

What no one has told you....you are about to meet the most plantation minded black folks ever.

The conditioning down there to jump for massa is strong.

Especially in the workplace....they eat alot of cheese to get over on other blacks.

You'll see

My brother lived in Allybammy for one year because his job sent him and he hated it. He said "these people are a special kind of ******ed."

Good luck OP. If you look young, find a place where college birds chill and have fun. Just stay away from the white ones. You know how they do in those heavily wooded areas.

That's my hometown. Lived there most of my life. Don't let these cats that have never even been to Alabama have you thinking it's dirt roads, banjos and full of racism. It's a very quaint city, people tend to keep to themselves.

I moved to Texas a few years back and only visit a few times a year, so I'm not up to speed with the nightlife.

Plenty of bars downtown, it's a chill/interesting place to explore at any time actually. Few historical landmarks.

As far as clubbing, there's a place called tag that's very popular, I've only been once or twice. Nothing very impressive but that's the place of choice for the 25+ crowd.

I've got a homeboy that's been doing big things in the city and trying to add a touch of class with things line fashion shows and such. Follow his brand on fb and it'll keep you abreast of more upscale events, un-u luxe clothing co. I've seen some pics and the events looked impressive.

If you hear anyone mention these hoods, I'd stay away if I were you:
Birdsville
Plateu
The bottom
The terrace
Trinity garden

Prichard is its own little city with a large black population, certain parts are very rough though.

Hoods that aren't that bad... but have a few rough parts:
Crichton
Toulminville
Down the bay
maysville

More affluent areas are going to be in West Mobile, there's been a lot of growth in the schillenger/airport area.

It's a chill environment in the area around the college, South Alabama, but there's not much to do .

There's one mall, bel air. It's nothing extravagant but they have made some cool improvements to it.

Your height is an ice breaker so people will probably think you play ball somewhere and females will likely spark convos with you.

My friend went to visit his grandparents in South Carolina and he said the hotel owners were calling black employee's the n word and all that. It's not limited to the south but it's amplified. We don't have that **** happening out here.

Aerospace mechanic?

What you work on exactly??

******** all day lol. Nah but I do interiors of planes and structures. Putting in the landing gear at my last contract ( hella hard work drilling) and before that building just business class seats for Dutch airlines. Alabama is interiors too. Changing seats & overhead bin cabins.

That's
go check da college sports scene out there.

u being 6'8 u might find some boppers.

I feel you bro, was thinking of catching an Alabama or see what's in New Orleans on weekends. That's all I can come up with. But as far as navigation don't wanna end up in Jim beams back yard..
