NYC style micro apartments hitting DC - 375 sq ft boxes

I live in jersey to avoid this bs. I know what I want out of my place and For $3200/month I can't get in Manhattan what I'm getting over here.

Ain't nothing relative about it lmao a box is a box no matter how you try to make it seem.

Just cuz people don't mind living in a small box doesn't make it okay for me lol .

Yeah.....it's all personal preference really. Some people like it and some people don't and either or can sell them on which one is more important to them.

City living can almost seem like an oxymoron at times. You pay way more to live in a small place and to have fun, you have to spend a lot more money. It's not for everyone for sure but it's definitely enjoyable if you can afford it. and don't mind spending money on things that aren't tangible.

3200$ for a box is stupid....there is nothing relative about it, is straight up DUMB....if you can afford 3200$ a month for a box, why not invest that type of money into a house?....just throwing away 3200$ a month to say you love in the city?...stupid.

I don't think anyone here mentioned paying $3200 for a box :rolleyes And since you're the authority on life on here, please let me know how people that aren't extremely wealthy in somewhere like NYC or a major Cali city can "invest in a house" when houses in good neighborhoods cost $1 million+. Many people don't have the luxury of staying at their parents' homes for years while saving up to invest in a house. My parents make $250K+ combined and still would've never been able to buy the house they live in now if they bought it at its current value (560K in 2000, 1.4 mil in 2016). They didn't move to this country to live in some garbage non CA/NYC/Seattle city, so moving to the South or Midwest isn't an option

We are talking two completely different things here and NO not every good neighborhood has an average of 1M homes...I don't know where you got that from...plenty of good neighborhoods in big cities where you can buy a good house for under 400k and if you are able to afford city living inside a 300sq ft studio paying anything close or over 2k a month, you can certainly afford to take that money and invest it in a house....I have a job and a business and I can't afford to live in Manhattan, is much more affordable to buy a house and get a mortgage out in Jersey than it is to live inside a cereal box in Chelsea or Soho....simple math b.

But millenials gon Millenial....that's the reality of it....the luxury of being able to say "hey I live in X neighborhood in the heart of Manhattan" beats out any other logical choice....keep getting your pockets raped dummies

This is just not true in a major city. 400K is the price for a good home in Stockton, CA, a city with one of the highest crime rates in the country. 400k WILL NOT get you ANYTHING good in the Bay Area, LA, or San Diego. It's only possible in Central Cali, Sacramento, Stockton, etc, which are HOURS away. Again you have no idea what you're talking about but keep trying to act like you know EVERYTHING

I thought this thread was about NY? I have no clue how things are in Cali....I'm speaking of NY and I know for a fact there are good neighborhoods 20-30 mins from the city for 400k more or less....obviously IN the city you won't find any property for that price, but there are plenty of good neighborhoods semi affordable in the surrounding areas.

Unrelated but related. It bugs me out how in the states you are seen as a loser/failure if you still live with your parents past like 24 years old even if you have a job and are saving. Dudes would rather struggle in their 20'S living with 6 roommates or living check to check than to stay at home for a few years more?? I don't understand it. /end rant

I don't think there is any shame in staying at home as long as you pull your own weight, help the parents wether directly or indirectly, if you a grown man still riding the pony, you SHOULD be ashamed, if the shoe fits and you somehow feel offended by this, DEAL WITH IT.

Did you not just say "in big cities?" What other big cities in New York are there besides NYC, if you were only talking about New York?

Fams I've lived in a brownstone since last summer the shoe def doesn't fit in just staying.

I agree. But Ksteezy thinks that someone that just flew in from overseas or out of state to start their careers should invest in a house instead of paying rent. Those people don't have anywhere else to live and save up for a house , and they are basically forced to pay high rental prices because they have no other option. So generalizing and calling everyone who pays a lot in rent "stupid" is ridiculous

$400k can get you a nice house in Houston, Dallas, I believe ATL too. Unless those don't count as major cities to you or we sticking to NYC and Cali

400k gets you a nice place in Philly too, and also a lot of other cities. I guess it depends on what the definition of major city is

as a millennial on the go, these apartments speak volumes to me, as I prefer to collect experiences, not material possessions so space is not that important to me...

unfortunately no one from my generation can live in them, we are saddled in hundred of thousands of debt for liberal arts degrees and live with our parents...

There are plenty of people in their 20s who are doing fine and didn't take out loans for useless degrees. Please don't speak for all of us
