I'm sure the movie is good, but I have a sneaky suspicion this will get WAY more accolades and admiration than it deserves.

Gay black boy + degenerate black mother + crack dealers = success

Saw it last nignt,

Speechless, lived up to the hype. stunningly nuanced take on masculinity.

a totally arresting emotional experience.

go see it, in theaters if you can, visually its incredible.

Major co-sign. Really well done. Easily one of the best of the year

just came back from seeing it. def worth a watch. im on my independent binge, so this was next on my list (after Manchester By the Sea)

here is my take.

tough movie to watch. it's not about the entire life of the main character, but rather, 3 glimpses into his life as a boy, teen, and adult. he struggles to cope throughout as the son of a drug-addicted single mother, living in poverty, and trying to come to terms with his sexuality.

this was a well acted movie. period. from the boy who plays the main character to the adult, mahershala ali...these were standout actors in this movie. everyone else was solid.

very artistic movie, it isn't a movie like Interstellar where its made to be experienced in IMAX...but through the writing, and superb acting, the movie experience was about the emotion, and was well executed.

yes, there are a couple of gay scenes...nothing graphic or brokeback mountain. its more implied. i say this cuz im sure this would turn people away to watch it, and that is unfair imo. movie deals with real **** and is a great look into one aspect of black americana. you don't have to like dude on dude action, i mean i get it. but if you can be mature enough to look at the big picture, its a dope movie.

good lord janelle monae fine AF. i had no idea.

in the end its a great movie with really good acting. only a couple of hours. saw for $11 cash.

Phenomenal film. Those who don't want to see it because it revolves around a gay man are truly part of the filth of this country.

:rolleyes ok

Both the theaters by my house aren't showing this, only the independent theater about 30 min away is showing it in town. I'm a big fan of Masherala Ali and want to see it, might end up just watching it online

I was kind of hesitant at first to see but man this was a good movie. The way it was shot, the music, felt real not over the top or whatever.... also I didnt know Janelle Monae look that good lol

I just came back from watching it and there was a decent sized audience in the theater.. more than i expected

Being from Miami, and living in Liberty City for a part of my upbringing this movie really captures the essence of the city without displaying too many landmarks, especially for the periods in time.

Excellent movie, it speaks directly to the issue of Black males navigating sexuality, and masucilitiny in society. The little boy deserves an Oscar for his role, the weight his character carried was palpable.

movie was flames.. solid 9/10.. plot wasn't the deepest, but the they did a great job of capturing and eliciting emotions.

all three actors playing chiron (these names these days :smh:  ) were spot on with the acting. i think i'd give it to the kid who plays the teen. he nailed that struggle PERFECTLY. the teen years had more emotion. depression, anxiety, anger, confusion and the actor exhibited those emotions exceptionally well on screen.

This movie is wierd the scene with them at the beach was cringeworthy
