2017 YANKEES OFFSEASON THREAD Vol. Gary El Jefe

Source confirms: #Yankees in agreement with Matt Holliday, one year, $13M. @jonheyman first.

We could have just kept Brian McCann instead.

I really hate Hal

Legit forgot about Holiday. Batted .246, 20 homers and 62 RBIs in 110 games in 2016 :smh: . Tho he as was forced to play the field, which he won't have to do in NY.

My thing about Holliday... Is I'm sure he'll be a good DH.

He'll probably hit 25-30 homeruns, drive in 80-85 RBIs, and hit in the .270s

With the exception of hitting .270.. Do we really question if McCann could do that playing everyday, and not having to worry about catching at all?

We basically just got an extra 15 hits in the course of 140 games.

And even further my problem is that they'll sell this as, well we had a good offseason, we will be in it, and make the playoffs. When we all know that we won't be.

X2

Not really understanding this move. They had the catchers spot sealed up with a excellent starter in Sanchez & backup and a solid Dh/ decent 1b fill in with McCann.

At this point I have to believe it was something to do with McCann refusing to be a backup/ straight dh only.

If Holliday will have a similar season to McCann then what's wrong with adding a couple of prospects to the farm for a guy who's stated he still wants to catch everyday?

Yankees don't want Chapman at his price tag right now according to a few places.

Meanwhile, Jensen has as high as a 5 year / $80mil offer from the Marlins.

Just bit the damn bullet you idiots. Take the damn closer now, so that you don't have to trade prospects for one in the future.

Son if we lose out on chap and jensen

I'm not sure my heart can take it, honestly.

It's one thing to pass on Cespedes and Encarnacion. There's always going to be OFers & DHs. And we do have the prospects coming for those spots. It's not smart strategy now because you can win now and win more later, but it also isn't something we can't pick up in FA in the next couple of years.

A closer is something we can undoubtedly use now, there are not any prospects for it, and there's maybe only 5-10 really good established closers at a time, and the rest is either by committee, severely inconsistent or just plan stink.

You gotta take it now, so when you're trying to contend and serious about it, you're not wasting your prospects trying to buy a closer.

If we're going to trade prospects, do it for an everyday player or an ace or another prospect

Agree 100%. Idk it seems like Cash is getting handcuffed by penny pincher Hal

I knew we were screwed after the Boss passed away and the brain trust exiled Hank. Him and his pops had the same mindset and they got him outta there.

Heyman said we're showing interest in trading for Brian Dozier

Chapman wants a 6 year deal, Cubs aren't interested in bringing him back :nerd:

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said on SiriusXM that Aroldis Chapman "is going to be costly. We're prepared to a degree to compete for that."Chapman told ESPN he is looking for a six-year deal.

Brian Cashman told me he had several conversations with Kinzer/Edwin but it's beyond their $. Went for "lower hanging fruit" in Holliday

Brian Cashman on OF: "People are knocking on the door here for Gardy"

I don't want Chap for five or six years.

1. I think he's older than he says he is.
2. He throws hard as ****, I don't think he will be for another five years.
3. He's not lights out.

He's still a Top Flight Closer, and with the exception of Miller. He's at the top of my list.

But I'm fine with Chapman for 6 if structured correctly. Here's how.

Go for 6 year / $100mil.

Front loaded 4 year / $75mil. Give him an Opt out after year 4.

What you basically did is give him 4 years $75mil contract and not 6 year / $100mil because if he's good in 4 years he'll opt out.

If he isn't as good, we'll have 2 year / $25mil left, not too big of a deal. If he's still somewhat effective, all you need to do is eat some of that $25mil to get out of it.

But really I'd prefer a 4 year / $75mil deal.

I'm okay with Chapman for 4 years or less. Don't really care about the money, we're the Yankees

Still kind of uneasy rooting for someone with a history of domestic violence tho
