2017 YANKEES OFFSEASON THREAD Vol. Gary El Jefe

Baseball Tonight panel said that Yankees likely will get either Chapman OR Jansen, likely Chapman.

And both of them at 5 year somewhere between 75-85 mil

Not crazy about 5 years & ~$80M is a lot but closer is definitely an area of need

I think we should do a couple things in response to Red Sox. We can't compete in 2017, but for 2018 & 2019.

Giving a slightly better offer to the Rays for Archer than the Red Sox gave for Sale

At this point, the Rays have nothing to play for for the most part of Archer's deal. They need to retool their Farm System

Moncada was a 65 on the 20-80 and was ranked #1, Kopech was ranked #30 & was a 55 on 20-80, Basbae is 50 on 20-80, and Diaz is a 45 on 20-80.. We could top that.

Mateo is #18 and a 55, Rutherford is #51 and a 55, Andujar is #8 3B prospect and a 50, Acevado is a 50, Kaprielian is a 50, Billy McKinny is a 50 & Ian Clarkin is a 50.

Would only hurt to lose Andujar & Acevado BECAUSE
-Mateo is behind Torres & Didi (Also Wilkerman Garcia may develop to be better than Mateo)
-Rutherford is behind Fraizer & Judge. Also Ellsbury isn't going anywhere, and they'll want Harper in FA.
-Kaprielian becomes expendable with Sheffield, Abreu & Tate
-Clarkin is behind even more SP
-In McKinny we have a similar prospect in Dustin Fowler

-Andujar hurts because 3B becomes really tough going forward
-Acevado hurts because he likely has the best pure stuff out of our prospect pitching.

Wade Davis going to the Cubs for Soler means they should be out on Chapman

Leaves Marlins, Nationals, Dodgers and is for Chapman & Jansen

White Sox should be selling even further according to Rick Hahn (their GM)

Melky and Jose Quintana should be targets.

I'd say DRob, but I'm betting we're going to get Chapman or Jansen

Orioles are interested in Gardner..

Their Farm System though is terrible though

Their 4th best prospect may not crack our Top 20.

I'm down to trade Gardner. We need to keep stockpiling these prospects so we can make that big trade and still have a strong farm system

The only thing about stockpiling the farm is you have to eventually start to clear it out and trade a decent amount of your prospects because you have to put them on the 40 man to prevent them from being Rule 5.

I think we'll make a couple of big trades next offseason because we'll have no choice.

Fist pump.

Looking at what Melancon got. And what Kenley will likely get (and cost a first rounder), it really is a pretty good move.

Would've liked 3 or 4 years but 5 is doable.

Now let's find a trade partner for Gardner & get some starting pitching

Yankees timeline

- Yankees acquire Starlin Castro for Adam Warren
- Yankees acquire Adam Warren back, Gleyber Torres, Billy McKinny for Aroldis Chapman
- Yankees re-sign Chapman

Yankees somehow got Castro, Torres & McKinny for nothing

Trade Gardner, and use that salary credit to offset going all in on Jose Quintana.

(Fraizer, Torres, Judge, Sheffield, Abreu & Tate should be off limits... That's 6 of our Top 11... Sanchez & Bird as well)

Quintana has 4 year / $36mil left on his deal. $7mil in 2017.

If you can get a 50 and 45 rated player for Gardner, it can replace maybe half of what it would cost for Quintana.

I'd trade Mateo, Rutherford, Kaprielian, Clarkin, Chad Green, Robbie Refsnyder for Quintana

Tanaka - (Quintana) - CC - Pineda - Severino
Warren - Shreve - Layne - ???? - Clippard - Betances - Chapman

Sanchez - Romine
Bird
Castro
Headley - Torreyes
Didi
???? - Hicks
Ellsbury
Judge - Austin
Holliday

With Gardner gone, Melky Carbrera again makes a lot of sense as it's a 1 year deal.

Glad we got Chap back! Just hope he doesnt lose anything on his fastball anytime soon. That is what I am scared of. 3 years down the road.

Marlins last offer for Chapman was 5 year / $87mil..

So at least we know, we were where the market was.

@BryanHoch
Brian Cashman says Yankees' heavy lifting is done "unless I trade (Brett) Gardner." Has turned down the offers for Chase Headley.

Yankees lost Luis Torrens, among 6 other prospects in the Rule 5 Draft. Torrens was the best of the bunch.

While Cashman said he will continue to pursue pitching, he repeated that he doesn't expect to actually make a move.
