The Mummy will kick a world which will include their old classic monsters of past.

So far they have casted:

Tom Cruise as Tyler Colt
Sofia Boutella as The Mummy
Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll
Javier Bardem as Frankenstein's monster
Johnny Depp as The Invisible Man
Angelina Jolie as Bride of Frankenstein (unconfirmed)

There is also a Van Helsing planned for the future and I am not sure if it's been confirmed Dracula Untold with Luke Evans might actually be the actual start of the cinematic universe but since it didn't do too well on the BO then they might just ignore that one completely and start from scratch.

One of the reasons I don't watch movies much anymore is the lack of originality and the constant remakes & reboots. :smh:

I remembered liking the Brendan Fraser Mummy as a kid, but when I caught parts of it on TV the other day, it was beyond TRASH

How does Tom Cruise survive that plane crash?! :wow:

That's what I want to know. Probably magic or some last min save but still

Everybody studio is reaching for its own "cinematic universe". Seems like a bad trend started from salivating over Marvel's bankability, sometimes even with IP unknown to most of the movie-going public.

That said...this particular trailer did have me intrigued.

What's wrong with having a shared cinematic universe if done right?

Existed in movies, tv, and novels before Marvel did it. They're just really successful at it.

Was Xena existing in the same world as Hercules a bad thing? No cuz we got to see Herc bang Xena and Iolas bang Gabrielle.

Was Alien and Predator not worth it?

Was the Muppets and Sesame Street coexisting in the same world such a travesty?

I mean this is not even the first time Universal had a (successful) Universal Monsters line of movies. People are either too young or ignorant about it.

Alex Kurtzman Confirms DRACULA UNTOLD Is Not Canon In Universal's Monster Cinematic Universe

When asked by Collider if Dracula Untold would be a part of the shared monster universe, Kurtzman gave a rather definitive "No."

"The thing people forget is that the Universal Monsters were the first mash-up; they were the first universe built. It started with, I think, Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, and that was the first time that they put them together and then from there they started cross-pollinating all the monsters. But that was only because Frankenstein had succeeded so many times as a film, and had spawned its own sequels, and Wolf Man had done the same, that Universal was at a point where they said, 'God, we don’t know what to do with these characters anymore. Why don’t we put them together?' and then new stories emerged."

Kurtzman also elaborated on Russell Crow's Dr. Jekyll, and his role in The Mummy. While audiences know Jekyll due to his own literary history, Kurtzman and Tom Cruise wanted to implement the character in a way that would help build the shared universe without taking away from the overall focus on the mummy herself. "In looking to figure out how to place The Mummy in a larger context and setting up this organization that has actually been dealing with monsters for longer than any of us have been around, it became clear that we needed somebody to be the voice of that organization. The next thought was like, 'Well, it could be Joe Mcgillicuddy, or we could actually go into another character that makes sense organically.' It was a real point of conversation with Tom [Cruise]. And part of what Tom’s character, Nick, learns about the mummy and about the history of the mummy comes through Jekyll’s very deep understanding of monsters and how monsters have existing quietly in this world for eons."

going be interesting to see how this all plays out.. don't know much about the director

kinda wish they got doug liman, after him and cruise working together for 'edge of tomorrow'

anyways, good to see they're building and trying to develop characters a bit before just throwing them together (cough WB/DC cough)

also interested to see the Godzilla/king kong shared universe

Dracula Untold wasn't terrible. It just wasn't good.

Given it was mostly set in the past and the ending was set in modern day I see how they could fit it in and how ppl would suspect they'd backdoor it in to this universe.

Might be smart to go for a Dracula that's more evil though. Good guy Glad might not be the way to go if you gonna throw in a. Van Helsing or Nina Harker.

^had zero interest in that movie.. I think I did catch the ending on hbo or somewhere else though

what's the significance of tom cruise's character in that huge world?

never heard of 'nick morton'
