Oakland fire in warehouse.

"Mulé was bandaged because of burns he received trying to help another artist -- an attempt he admitted was unsuccessful.
"Another member of the collective had broken his ankle and was calling out for help," Mulé said, his voice breaking. "I was pulling him out. He's a larger gentleman, and there was a lot of stuff in the way. The flames were too much. There was too much smoke and ... I had to ... I had to let him go."

Wow. Crazy.

Man...what a tragedy. Reminds me of the night club fire in RI back in the day.

RIP to those who lost their lives. Gonna be lawsuits galore over this. Negligence :smh:

Sad an unfortunate. As architects there is a responsibility for the health safety and welfare of the people that occupy the space we design. It's up to the owner to keep up with maintenance and installing new sprinkler systems that meet code. These outdated buildings need to get inspected especially those that are hosting events with a larger occupancy load. I'm not familiar with California building code but I do know it's more stringent then other states. How the heck did this building do so long without updated its fire protection/ fire prevention/ sprinkler system?????

Well, knock me over with a ******* feather...

Firefighters who responded to Friday’s blaze described the interior as a labyrinth. And an Oakland building official said organizers of the warehouse concert never obtained a permit for the event, preventing city workers from inspecting exits, fire extinguishers and other vital safety features.

There's a reason you get permits and insurance for these events. I know it sounds all nanny state-ish, but the alternative is what happened in Oakland. I hope whoever threw the party gets thrown in jail for a loooooong time.

seems it was grey market warehouse housing conversions for artists...

Man there are people actually trolling the event page on FB that people are using to find loved ones.

owner of the building posted on FB that he was fortunate that his wife and kid was at a hotel that night and was getting blasted for it because of his lack of concern for those dead

Confirmed. Everything I worked so hard for is gone. Blessed that my children and Micah were at a hotel safe and sound... it's as if I have awoken from a dream filled with opulence and hope.... to be standing now in poverty of self worth.

The vid of that tragedy has always got me extra cautious if I'm ever at a venue with a confined space.

People don't realize how fast fire moves. :smh:

Also wondering about the sound-proofing installation/methods being used since the space was also being occupied by artists studios. Reason being, I can see how quickly the fire spread if corners were cut. Hence, why I'm guessing the owner was hesitant to have the space inspected.

I'm not sure what he was attempting with this post.
