That owner is straight garbage.

I really do hope you get good news somehow

This sounds sadly like the station fire in 2003. The video of that is :smh: :smh:

I read a report where I guy was in there and left to get a drink at the corner store and by the time he got back it was up in flames. He was only gone a 10 minutes according to his phone calls and store cameras so I can't imagine how fast the place went up :smh:

The only time I was even close to something like that was some shooting inside of a club. Once the crowd starts moving those doorways and halls become tiny and it's scary as ****. panic is a real thing

up to 33 confirmed deaths :smh:
hearing some of the dead may be teenagers as well

This is so ****** up. I want to a lot of underground shows when i was younger, and a lot of the time they were at questionable places. But no one ever thought about **** like this happening, when it could have very easily. What a horrible way to go. RIP.

Very sad. Oakland has become the hot-spot for shows like it. Hopefully this reminds owners to make sure their buildings are up to code.

the local news was saying how even owners of similar warehouses have difficult time trying to get into their building once the tenants establish residency. most of the time they would avoid and not even let inspectors in to check the places

derek ion didn't actually own the building but he was basically the one running the place. collecting the rent and was in charge of running the art collective.

Well, after this incident, they better force their way in.

From the pics I saw on the news from the facebook page of the place, it looked totally unsafe. Really bad since people actually lived there. Rooms full of junk, staircase made of wooden pallets, no sprinkler system.

most of these buildings are illegally converted industrial warehouses that aren't zoned for residential living...kinda like da OG SoHo.

Yeah, I saw a news anchor ask a woman who lived there and was able to get out why people did live there if it wasn't meant for that and she replied because it was very difficult for people to find places to live in that area. I'd rather set up a tent outside than live in that deathtrap though.

There's options out there, people just don't want to move to the outskirts. I've met so many people that wouldn't dare go past Berkeley and no further down than Oakland.

Now that's i think about it, I went to someone's loft which was situation above a factory. It threw me off and didn't feel natural.

The vid of that tragedy has always got me extra cautious if I'm ever at a venue with a confined space.

People don't realize how fast fire moves. :smh:

If I'm ever in an unfamiliar space, I always check to see where the exits are.

Like @ninjahood and @Gentrification there's a lot of underground parties and warehouses that people live in illegally. sometimes both combine. The one's that live there often get by on rent only $250 a month or something ridiculously low. According to the news the party was held in the 2nd floor and the stairs leading up to the 2nd floor were made of arranged wood pallets

If you don't now about Oakland nightlife too much there's a tradition called First Fridays where the first friday of the month everyone hits to the city for bars, look fresh and stunt, everyone in a good mood. I went out that friday and luckily it was on another side of town for me. My lil bro often goes to those underground spots but thank god he didn't go/know about it and had work that night. Checked my snapchat and saw that another friend posted a selfie saying that she was going. checked on her to make sure she was alive. Didn't even know it happened. maney

Also F that artist. him and his wife are staying at the Marriott in SF. refused to answer questions to the press about his FB posts

Yeah it's crazy. I remember being young and in college wanting to be in the city so bad but never being able to afford it.

While I get wanting to live there I never got why anyone would get that desperate though.
