NYC Mayor policies blamed for Terrible Traffic. VOL bike lane hell

dont even get started on the problems 57th and 59th street are going through right now cause of trump tower.

they want us to go use public transportation, but in all my years of using MTA, it's never been this bad. literally every station is getting "worked" on. delays and re re re routes all over the place. I was stuck on the L last month for about 40 mins at bedford. multiple times the conductor said we was being held there. then after some more time, he said "this train is out of service". swear to god we almost flipped that mother over.

this city is becoming too populated. and populated with people bringing their midwestern, square state style of maneuvering through the city . its slowed down to a snails pace. like you ninja, im nostalgic about what NYC used to be and mean. as of right now, it's a metropolis teetering on the edge of turning to Hong Kong.

Just personal preference, I prefer public transportation over driving. I dont go to the high traffic areas enough with a car to complain about the traffic. IMO it's only bad in and around the on/off ramps of the bridges, and it's always been that way. There's also more people on the road because of Uber and Lyft. Using MTA sucks, but it beats driving. This isnt a new issue.

Downtown sucks in general also because the streets and avenues arent straight like they are mid-town and uptown.

they did a traffic study last year & it was concluded that uber/lyft didn't effect traffic one way or another.

before regularly drove i used to never think i needed a car...once i actually drove, there's just no way i can depend on mass transit, especially at night...ish used to frustrate me to no end.

I've had experience with both. Living in Miami, you had to drive. You dont have a choice, and its takes 20-25min. (without traffic) to get everywhere. On top of it, it's getting really populated here too. Living in FL made me HATE driving with a passion. I cant wait to move back to NYC full time. My family ranges from Long Beach to Westchester and they live near the LIRR and Metro North stations, coming into the city from Astoria is easy money.

It doesn't help w/ NYC's congestion. A lot of NE cities that were built early on suffer from this, there's really nowhere to expand since space is scarce. Pittsburgh could benefit from a mass transit system like NYC but there's no room to do it, or money.

nyc could accommodate more people if they got rid of Central Park...fill that area with mid to high rise buildings and problem solved

parks that size are a waste in dense urban environments

So terrible I had to log in and quote this.

what do very large open spaces in dense surroundings do for cities?

I'm open to listening...

Nobody wants to see a bunch of sidewalks and buildings all the time b. Could Central Park be downsized, possibly, but to get rid of it completely is foolish.

Getting rid of Central Park seems ridiculous, but there is a sound economic argument for doing it.

Anyway, people, especially rich people, love the amenity. It is not going anywhere.

What reason would that be?

The spot would fill up with people within 5 years...

And nyc would be back to square one.

-No matter how you look at it, New York housing market is so ****** because there is supply shortage (caused by different things). This might help relieve that.

-You're removing an amenity, therefore making the city less appealing for people, especially to higher income folk, some may choose to live outside the city.

-Traffic, time is money. Having people be able to cut through that area more quickly would be beneficial.

There is a supply shortage but increase in supply won't change the price because 9/10 the same people who built the luxury joints will get the rights to build more luxury joints that many people can't afford so where' back to square one.

So make a dense, overpopulated area more dense and overpopulated?

they can build towards da ends of queens & Brooklyn, around da Rockaways. its vacant af out there.

How's transit out there? Is it consistent, convenient, quick? Also, without any type of thriving economic community, u won't get people to want to move out there forreal, that's the same for every city, people want to be near the action and close to amenities that the city has to offer.

Now if they built out there and then had express routes out to those places, they might get people to live out there.

But take my opinion w/ a grain of salt as I don't live in NYC

I wasn't making that argument myself, I'm saying that it could be made. I mentioned there are other things cutting off supply, like rent control, that distorts the housing market in NYC further.

I realize NYC is too far gone in some aspects, it is the most unique cities in the world, it plays by different rules.

There lies the issue, no good transportation. If people HAVE to move away from everything that's goin on, they at least need a good commute whether personal or public and since there's no such thing as a pleasant commute in NYC via personal vehicle, gotta at least get the public transpo from Far Rock on point.
